So something from the BGWFans& BGW relationship thread and this that crossed over in my mind:

Watching this video, it's no wonder why BGW Marketing isn't a fan. The first 5 questions were opportunities to just repeat what they just said. Heck most of the questions were asking them to repeat talking points rather than actual in depth stuff, like why the speeds didn't match. No one questioned why the spike height was used, and I bet @Zachary or @Nicole was asked about that (I have a theory as to why that is).

So it dawned on me - they like these "media" outlets because it just gives them chances to say the same thing over and other rather than actually answer a question. And I went back to some InvadR stuff to look back, and they looked really uncomfortable answering any question that wasn't a press release sheet talking point.

You nailed it! This wasn't the BGW Marketing Dept. falling down. You may critique some data & execution, but the lack of substantive questions means they had a successful event. They're doing what marketing departments (politicians, etc.) do, to include finding a friendly group of "media" to force multiply their public relations efforts. This wasn't an opportunity for in-depth journalism. This was an opportunity for the media to repeat what the park is saying about their new attraction. That's the story here.

The function of today's media is to tell a story, one that repeats the points offered to them by their sources, and that's agreeable to their audiences--the audiences that, if entertained and not challenged nor made uncomfortable, will continue to follow the story and money-making advertisements.

Pick (practically) any media source--they all cater to the interests (political views, etc.) of their audiences and tell the audience what their sources want said, and what they think the audience wants to hear. That creates a loyal set of eyeballs--but the media is nothing more than pass thru PR extension of the source. This also creates a media that won't ask tough questions, for fear of being cut off from the source. Exactly as the park did here.

Yeah, I don't want to brag too much but, honestly, when @Nicole and I would get to those media events, we would ask some damn good questions.

And there's your problem, @Zachary & @Nicole. You want your access restored? Stick to the talking point sheets, report on what the park wants said, and be a lap dog.

PS: tag this /rant & /sarcasm. Though I do believe this accurately describes the current state of journalism, I hate it and am not advocating for it. This site's commitment to offering in-depth, objective, and fair coverage is why it's my go-to for park news. Please don't be a lap dog. ?

Personally I am a little bitter in how the it's muddy so we are not going to the site aas handled. For one looking at conditions where I am at now only about 12 miles from the park as the crow flys I find it likely that the mud situation was exaggerated but it's still an active construction site with liabilities to two different companies and I give them a pass on that. But given that rain was forcast a week ago it seems strange that the only plan was let's crowd everyone on the bridge and spew off some info much of which was already know stuff to enthusiast like for example this is a launch coast it's different from a chain lift. There certainly were viewing spots on the service road and in Festa that would have been clear of mud and safe but the only view was from a spot that accessible durring Christmastown that showed nothing new. There also could have been some effort to do something like a free QQ for the ride when it opened as a sort of make up for the lack of tour. Yes I do get this was an ACE event and not a park event per say but it's a bad image for the park to simply seem to take the tough luck not our problem or responsibility . You can't control the weather but you can always control how you respond to it.
