General Information:

"Project Drachen Spire," is a community-generated identifier for the Intamin-made, multi-launch, shuttle giga coaster that was originally slated to open at Busch Gardens Williamsburg in 2021. The attraction is planned to utilize the currently-vacant land behind Verbolten, Festhaus Park—the former home of Drachen Fire.

The coaster's main layout—as leaked before the addition was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic—featured two launches, two spikes (one spiral, one vertical-ish), and a couple of banked turns. Drachen Spire was designed to run two trains by means of a pair of switch tracks connecting the primary, shuttle portion of the layout to the station platform.

Listening to the discussion, I got the impression that BGW had the majority of the board on their side honestly. The only reason the supervisors seemed to agree to a delay is that BGW didn't meet with Kingsmill residents until very, very recently.
Which is idiotic on BGW's part. Aside from proximity, it's also a wealthy, influential neighbor. They should have been there glad-handing before and right after the permit filing. Community PR is essential.

From what I have seen and working with civil planning like this, my guess is it'll result in delaying the process (which could've been expected, as delays from any source are likely) but no changes to the plan itself other than minor changes such as location.

On a separate note, can we reasonably conclude this ride is not very energy-intensive since they are able to kinda plug it into any location, with little noticeable consideration to the electrical grid? At that rate, what rides are usually low need on the energy scale?

According to BGW, they were delayed due to scheduling conflicts with the firm doing the noise studies for the attraction. BGW didn't want to meet with Kingsmill till their had the results in hand.

I just want to emphasize this: This hearing was bonkers. I've watched a good handful of these things for BGW projects, but I've never seen one like this before. When a recorded version gets posted by JCC, people should watch it.

Is there a GIF that can sum it up? This article paints a picture that sounds very tense

I can understand that. I just get the impression, through the adversity in the meeting, that perhaps the relationship isn't as "open" as it could be.

I was describing things live to a few friends as I was watching and @Thomas summerized my descriptions of the various Kingsmill resident comments with this:

15556

There was also a sick burn in there from BGW who pointed out that Kingsmill keeps building closer and closer to BGW. I legitimately laughed at that bit.

Seriously guys, this hearing was amazing.

This was definitely more eventful than I thought this meeting would be. While it was surprising that the vote got delayed ultimately I don't think it will change anything in the long run. Ultimately I think that JCC will end up approving what BGW wants. They are just trying to appease KM some by giving them some time.

Lol project Madrid was supposed to be a giga coaster by Intamin ?‍♂️ But I guess ole Kingsmill denied it lmao. Like why do they complain so much if they decided to live there. Looks like we could’ve gotten a giga but they just had to ruin it lmao

This is honestly the thing that ticks me off the most about their rebuttal here. Kingsmill does have space to the north and west, but they continue to move to the south and was there they know there's a conflict.

So, now that we all know about our "neighbors"... Let's get back to Festhaus Park. What are the guesses now that we know it's a thin, lattice structure.

  1. Tower with smaller coaster?
  2. Tower alone?
  3. Red Force type coaster?
  4. ?l??

1 is what I’m thinking. Can’t see 3 at all. 2 doesn’t make a whole lot of sense either unless it comes with an area.

If it weren’t for the “slender” comment I would be all in on this being a coaster. Nothing about its location or the impact they are describing it as having says tower to me but “slender” gives me pause. But that term could be being used as loosely as “lattice” was for MMXX.

A tower in a whole new hamlet with several other rides is the only thing that checks all their boxes to me, but I still have a hard time buying that an expansion that large is coming. But it doesn’t make sense to build a standalone tower in any of the suggested locations so far.

@PhantomJB93 I'm almost thinking that the "lattice" term was for the 315ft height waiver that was subsequently scraped.

I agree, I don't see a hamlet. And, I guess the word "slender" is up to interpretation ("she/he has an great personality..."). Falcon's Fury, to me, is slender but no lattice to be seen.

Somehow, I keep getting driven back to some sort of tower with a medium coaster. (And a bunch of free season passes to Kingsmill.)

Stupid question time. What is Kingsmill (if you’re saying it’s a business)? Maybe I’m reading this all wrong.
