General Information:

"Project Drachen Spire," is a community-generated identifier for the Intamin-made, multi-launch, shuttle giga coaster that was originally slated to open at Busch Gardens Williamsburg in 2021. The attraction is planned to utilize the currently-vacant land behind Verbolten, Festhaus Park—the former home of Drachen Fire.

The coaster's main layout—as leaked before the addition was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic—featured two launches, two spikes (one spiral, one vertical-ish), and a couple of banked turns. Drachen Spire was designed to run two trains by means of a pair of switch tracks connecting the primary, shuttle portion of the layout to the station platform.

BGW has had many missteps (especially lately) but I have faith in the park still and I have serious doubts they would pay 10's of millions for another launch coaster a year after Pantheon. I could be wrong; but in that case, I don't think I could ever look at the park the same way.

Does anyone read the thread before they spout their $0.02? Like I know I don't read the thread sometimes because it gets out of hand how many messages there are to read, but God damn if you're gonna engage at least be versed in the latest information to a basic sense.

This isn't targeted at any one person, but the amount of times I see a common idea preceeded by "idk if anyone has said this yet" and it's like the 10th time it's been presented is unholy. My eyeballs are gonna start bleeding from the redundance. It's one thing if it is an out of the ordinary, interesting proposition, but for someone to just be like "idk if anyone has considered insert basic coaster model name" when it's been said many times drives me up the wall.

Rant over. This is entirely a personal blunder that I have now vented. I feel much better. Do you? I hope so. Smooth sailing from here on out. Like glass, but water.

Yeah, I'm losing it. What'sittooya

Ice, some of us are not consistently on this site everyday. We don't see every single idea that gets shared. This is a rumor page is it not? What's happening in this thread isn't new to the site. Repeated ideas are to be expected when we have nothing to work with.

Edit: What I first posted sounded condescending. I have reworded.

Just my personal opinion, but i think Zachary's layout looks fun and makes sense. Plus it gives them lots of records/ bragging rights. I would prefer it to be a little more substantial than red force, but i don't mind it being launch. I love that feeling, even though i was hoping for something like leviathan.

There's been some speculation about a tower ride vs. coaster. There's a good example for how both have been delivered in same structure: Kingda Ka - where there's a chair drop affixed to the coaster tower. If that were to be deployed, Mach Tower could be retired.

I understand not everyone can read everything, hence why I said the above. At least be versed in the latest information to a basic sense. Our current constraints. The amount of repeat ideas posed that violate the few criteria we have is mind boggling.

Anyway, I'll leave it here. Didn't mean to be uncivil, guess we can chalk it up to a rough work day. Apologies if I was too abrasive.

If there are those who refuse to read any posts in the thread but still insist upon posting their idea, at the very least, try utilizing the search feature and see if your basic coaster type has been mentioned yet. Ex. Blitz, and see what has been discussed so far. It's actually a very handy tool that I imagine is underutilized.

Still, this is an entirely personal blunder. I understand it may be unreasonable. In fact it probably is. It just be like that sometimes.

This was discussed somewhat. The issue is the location of the high point near the Verbolten bridge. Is a fairly long trek from Festhaus and there's no way to path on the Verbolten building side.

Agree, it's a long trek - and limited options for even the straightest of pathways.

So I was looking at the JCC parcel viewer for a sense of the terrain in the area in question.

17386

As you can see, the highest point could, potentially, be over land that 50 feet above sea level or so. If we knock 10 feet off the 355 as a buffer for catwalks, the airplane light, etc. and add 345 to 50, we get an approximate potential track height above sea level of 395-ish feet.

Now, look at the terrain around the DF station. It's at about 80 feet above sea level. If we subtract that from the 395 feet we got a second ago, that gives us an approximate potential height change between the launch and the highest point. Here, that's 315-ish feet.

(That number sound familiar to anyone...?)

Anyway, there's another step here too. The launch track wouldn't sit on the ground next to the old Drachen Fire station. We can subtract another five or ten feet from our total height change number to account for that extra height of the launch track off the ground as well.

Anyone know how much speed we'd need to launch a train like this to 310-ish feet? Maybe that reduces the amount of launch track we need a little bit...?

I don't really know where I was going with this post TBH... Hopefully someone finds it interesting. ?

If not for the insurance liabilities, a 300-foot top hat leading into a ski jump-style launch - across the Rhine - would make for good spectating.
