General Information:

"Project Drachen Spire," is a community-generated identifier for the Intamin-made, multi-launch, shuttle giga coaster that was originally slated to open at Busch Gardens Williamsburg in 2021. The attraction is planned to utilize the currently-vacant land behind Verbolten, Festhaus Park—the former home of Drachen Fire.

The coaster's main layout—as leaked before the addition was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic—featured two launches, two spikes (one spiral, one vertical-ish), and a couple of banked turns. Drachen Spire was designed to run two trains by means of a pair of switch tracks connecting the primary, shuttle portion of the layout to the station platform.

One could argue that this means BGW is, effectively, doing a better job than all the other parks.

The goal is hype, yeah? Well the hype levels for MMXX are enormous considering how far out we are. This is despite the fact that BGW has literally spent next to nothing on actually creating that hype.

Maybe they are actually doing the right thing by letting BGWFans do their job for them. Similar effect for zero investment. Seems like a win-win.

I agree with you 100% in that we are creating some hype for them. We are just in our close little world though so not sure how far our influence here spreads, other than an occasional local news story picking up all the work you guys do. I just want them to release some sort of teaser... Even if very cryptic, like a tweet...."2020 is close at hand" hahaha

I'll repeat what I said earlier BGW isn't doing anything different than the other parks as far as marketing or teasing these upcoming attractions. The parks are all being tight-lipped and not saying anything. Literally the only reason they have teased RMC Gwazi is because they have already started work on that ride. They don't want to tease or announce anything until after the 2019 attractions have opened.

As far as teases right now the best I think you'll get is the park map that says coming in 2020 which is more than all the other parks except BGT.

Makes sense for those hoping for a very large attraction. It may take longer to build and also with MMXX in 2020 they may be wanting to spread out larger projects. Maybe initial intent of 2021 was a start of construction date given to JCC and BGW didn't want misinformation or disappoint if it is for 2022 or later. Now they just assigned the application date as the name.

While I do think they just changed the name to the year they are filing with the intention of hiding the year it is opening i think the plan is still for this to be the 2021 attraction. As has been discussed SEAS has announced that they will be spending $150 million a year for a new attraction, event or show in every market. There will be something coming every year for the foreseeable future. Some years it will be something like FF or something along the lines of F&W, BierFest, HOS and CT. But there will be something new every year.

Seems to me that it was unnecessary for the park to have called it “project 2021” in the first place, if they can just call it “[this year] height waiver.” They’ll just do this every time from now on, no?

well if they tear down the castle they would have no place for haunted houses or Christmas walkthroughs to happen during special events,I dont think the castle will go anywhere...

Not quite true. When Darkastle was still around they put santa in the wilkommenhaus. And there were also still plenty of haunted houses before then Darkastle was still in operation.

Yes but Darkastle has filled out the needs that Entertainment has been looking to have filled for a while had it stayed open we likely would have seen the park build the proposed building behind Royal Palace to fill these needs I find it unlikely that the park would remove it and go back to that situation.

The park will eventually replace it. The problem was that it wasn't a planned end of life. There were issues with it and it needed a fair amount of work and it was decided it was better to close it. So it wasn't in the parks plan to replace it. There are other locations for mazes and Santa. They had two indoor mazes that they didn't use this past HOS. The building that they were building was only going to be for rehearsal space not for mazes or Santa.
