General Information:

"Project Drachen Spire," is a community-generated identifier for the Intamin-made, multi-launch, shuttle giga coaster that was originally slated to open at Busch Gardens Williamsburg in 2021. The attraction is planned to utilize the currently-vacant land behind Verbolten, Festhaus Park—the former home of Drachen Fire.

The coaster's main layout—as leaked before the addition was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic—featured two launches, two spikes (one spiral, one vertical-ish), and a couple of banked turns. Drachen Spire was designed to run two trains by means of a pair of switch tracks connecting the primary, shuttle portion of the layout to the station platform.

I'd just be happy provide something different. We in this region have been spoiled with a lot of high end/thrilling rides. Maybe a fun dark ride. Maybe a new hamlet. Maybe something risky. I dunno.

I keep telling y'all, worlds tallest Dippin Dots stand!

I swear, this thread is almost a duplicate of the first 80-90 pages of the MMXX thread. We've got the "it's gonna be a giga" group being countered with the "nah, it's a tower" faction...
I did suggest we copy paste the first 100 pages out of that thread!

My point was also always that BGW wouldn't build one in that location because of the proximity to MT....
You keep making that statement as if it is a matter of public record, but you never explain why. What does a drop tower have to do with a tall swing except for altitude and they are both over grown poles. If height is the argument then nothing tall could be there.

You'd think BGW wouldn't want to build a new coaster literally right up next to the lift hill of another, but here we are.
Indeed BGW or for that matter Seas as a whole does not have a good recent history of making logical decisions. Or at least logical with our one way view. Who knows what is happening at corp.

To me the concepts are similar. A tall ride that goes up, spins, and comes down. Difference being length of time up there and the way you come down. Hence my suggestion of either turn off MT's rotation and just go up and drop, or put in a S&S Double shot and put MT in observation mode.

Damn I'm apparently turning into madmax over here just spewing my opinion as facts. It's completely my opinion but I think they are similar enough that it would dissuade BGW from doing. I have no evidence but my experience working in the administration office at BGW so I have some knowledge of the inner workings.

Hate to be the devil’s advocate, but before we start an entire discussion on how crap the trappers food has gotten over the years, (which is has), let’s keep this thread relatively related to what the thread is about compared to what Madrid’s looked like.

They're obviously just moving the Eiffel Tower from Kings Dominion. KD repainted it for them as part of the deal.

Here's the Williamsburg paper story -

As new rides at Busch Gardens Williamsburg take shape, the park has put in a request for a project that has, so far, been unannounced.

Busch Gardens Williamsburg has put in an application for a height waiver with the James City County Planning Department.

The waiver requests a height waiver for a structure up to 355 feet above the “finished grade,” according to the James City County permit tracking system, PermitLink.

Busch Gardens Williamsburg Fans first announced the height waiver application Wednesday, saying the project is named “Busch Gardens Project 2021.”

The group, which runs a website dedicated to investigating new developments and changes at the Williamsburg park, said the height waiver is requested for the Oktoberfest area.

In January, the fan group also reported the park was conducting a height survey in that same area.

The writer of the Busch Gardens Williamsburg Fans analysis of the application said it is “way, way too early to tell” what the structure will be.

The application says “other” under the section for the type of structure being proposed.

The application fee for the height waiver cost $210, according to county records.

Busch Gardens has put in requests for height waivers in the past, as well.

In summer 2018, the park requested a waiver for a 115-foot-tall attraction, which was later announced as a “screamin’ swing” called Finnegan’s Flyer.

A roller coaster in the Festa Italia section of the park, at one point called “Madrid,” also got a 315-foot height waiver from the county in 2017, although the project’s true height is still unknown.

Busch Gardens has six other attractions for which height waivers have been issued, including the roller coasters Verbolten, Tempesto, Apollo’s Chariot and Griffon.

So I woke up thinking about this, and what I think would be a great addition.

If the height waiver is for a tower:
I would like this to be a little hamlet. The usable area is slightly bigger than the New France area. Trees along the path by Bolts event building. In the opening where DF's drop corkscrew was goes whatever tower is going in, whether that be a star flyer or S&S Double Shot tower. In DF's old station, rises the station of a second BGW Woodie, the lift parallel to Bolts event building, and dropping down along the Rhine, over to the train bridge, and back with a little twisty bit before returning to the station. GCI would make a better 'combo' out and back with twister than RMC IMO. This leaves the area by the station, and between the path and the railroad to create an area for another small flat, a food service station, and a few shops. In terms of most hamlets that actually fits better size wise than trying to create a massive area.

If the height waiver is for a coaster:
I don't think that this would be a whole new hamlet. I think that a coaster at the height they are looking at (even if they are playing games with it), could be a giga. In that case this is going to be a MASSIVE space user, and will require using almost all of the park area back there. So it will be a German themed ride, as the Germany and Italy based areas are the two biggest parts of the park, and after MMXX going in with an Italian theme, adding another coaster in Germany makes some sense.

Gonna be honest, I’d rather have a hamlet with a tower and a GCI/Mack spinner than building a giga.

If it's a Tower that's pretty much my concept I posted months ago with España. . I conceived shops hiding the show building versus trees and an RMC Raptor instead of the woodie. I also think a train station could be built.

Mack Spinners are not great coasters and massively overrated. This past fall I got to ride Wonder Woman. Yes a great ride, but it's very much overrated in the community IMO. If either one of those were the 'major addition' in something like this it would be a rather decent size letdown to be honest.

The train station thing has been to exhaustion and it's unlikely due to the slope.
