It looks great, though it would be nice if there was only a single entrance/exit to the play structure area to keep kids from running off the wrong way.
On the other hand 360 access means parents can stay outside the structure and move around to keep an eye on their kids easier.

Hershey's has it set up with a fence all the way around their similar structure, but only a single entry/exit. This allows keeping an eye on the kids, but not having them walk off through an access point on the opposite side of the structure if you lose sight of them.

I don't like completely, or nearly completely dark water slides, but that does look 110% better.

I wish I had kids so I wouldn't look creepy playing on it. ?

I can't help you with the optics of it, but for what it's worth, adults aren't required to be accompanied by a child to experience Lighthouse Landing (source). That isn't the case for Lil' Barefoot Beach and Splash Island, which require guests over 54" tall to be accompanied by a child, so at least the park clearly isn't concerned with barring adults from Lighthouse Landing. So I'm sure if you want to grab a friend and check out the structure next year, you won't be the only child-free adults up there. The place looks sick.

This is a new banner on the park's website, and I just want to say the rockwork looks really good. KD really went all out on the aesthetic of this area; this looks like something you'd see at a high-end water park.

Can we get some more of that rockwork for whatever replaces Volcano??

Are we sure that this picture came from the new section vs a different park?
looks like the same water fall structure I imagine it was either taken durring the summer possible but unlikely given Covid or green screened.

In a previous blog post, they mentioned that some kids were brought in to "test out" the new area and take promotional pictures. In the top right of the picture you can also see the old Big Wave Bay pump house, which I guess is being reused for Coconut Shores. This picture is definitely from KD.

With the exciting news that work on Grain & Grill has resumed, I noticed some potentially less-exciting news on the Coconut Shores webpage. Any reference to the new food truck dining concept, Beach Street, has been removed from the page, despite previously being prominently featured on it. Also, the Coconut Shores banner on the park's homepage, which used to say "Three Exciting Additions Coming to Soak City" now just says "Exciting Additions Coming to Soak City," without the "three" (the three additions being Lighthouse Landing, Sand Dune Lagoon, and Beach Street).

What's bizarre to me, though, is that we know the park already owns the new food trucks and has them on site - they were used as tasting booths during Taste of the Season, complete with obvious Coconut Shores branding. It's beyond me why the park would go through the effort of scrubbing any reference to a dining concept that's largely been already paid for.

They honestly might have made a decision that they won't be able to staff regularly enough to worry about opening it this year.

Could also be some logistics issues with where they had planned to park the trucks during regular operations that they hadn't yet had time to solve or a few changes during construction made into an issue... However that's probably less likely.

Maybe KD decided they did not want to commit the food trucks full time in the summer to the water park. The park might have decided to be more "Fluid" in their use across the park during the year. For really crowded days, the trucks could be stationed across the park to supplement the permanent food places (including the waterpark).

It also gives the park the opportunity to try new menu items for a limited time. If popular, then those items might end up in a permanent food location/menu in the future.

Provides KD the ability to do more food related events throughout the year. Carnivale had food samples for each of the 5 countries represented. They could use the trucks for more types of food or better serving standards during events.

They could bring back a version of a BBQ event in late July / early August. If the park kept the original KD food truck, that would give them 3 food trucks to work with in the future. (I think they were getting a smaller truck to be used like a bar for mixed drinks. Not sure if KD has that one or not).

Well, here's a good update to this: I noticed that in the same announcement where the park shared their 2021 calendar, they also mentioned that Beach Street will open up with the rest of Coconut Shores! I'm glad to see this project wasn't shelved after all.

The park posted a blog update about Beach Street, the new food truck dining concept, with some pictures of the new dishes. It looks delicious, especially the food at Beachside Bowls. I can honestly say I never expected to be able to find Yaki Soba noodle bowls or Korean chicken dumplings in a water park - least of all Kings Dominion's water park.

KD put up a short video of Beach Street on Facebook. The park was putting in the final touches in the food truck court. They are going to keep a water feature at the front of the area.
