there is grading and new plumbing pipes being buried at the old tornado site right now.

There's also a ton of electrical work being done in Candy Apple Grove at the moment. If you went into the park today you could've seen electrical piping poking out of the gardens in the middle of CAG. I'm pretty sure it's preparation for Haunt/Winterfest, but with the work going on at Tornado it would not surprise me if they're updating the infrastructure of the area at the same time.

My assumption is that the work is WinterFest related. Hopefully setting up for a light package of some sort. I don’t know how the electrical stuff is set up at KD, but it’s possible that the electrical stuff behind that basketball game lights up one half of Candy Apple Grove and the stuff behind Trick or Treat lights up the other? I don’t wanna get too far off-topic though.... but maybe this can start speculation that the park could get a parkwide light show for 2019? ?

So Kings Island just announced a "spontaneous" 2019 announcement for tomorrow (8/16) at 2pm EST. Does anyone know if Kings Dominion has ever announced the next year's lineup with only a day or less of notice before? Curious to see if they decide to drop their smaller announcement tomorrow; at least since 2016's announcement, this is usually the week where they announce the lineup.

Cedar Point has placed a new poster in their park. Doswell is listed on the poster as one of the “train stations.” Could we be getting a train in 2019? That would be AWESOME!!!

My apologies for double posting yet again, but this was worth a new post and I think I may have cracked the code.

So there are four "stations" in the poster: Sandusky (Cedar Point), Mason (Kings Island), Kansas City (World of Fun), and Doswell (Kings Dominion). I looked at the first three parks and all of them have a steam-powered train attraction, while Kings Dominion does not. Simply put, I firmly believe that Kings Dominion will be getting a steam-powered train attraction for 2019.

While there is a chance that this is a red herring, I have an alternate prediction. So every single one of the Cedar Fair announcements so far has been a callback to that particular park's history in one way or another. Worlds of Fun's new Boathouse restaurant is a callback to the three boat houses that were on park grounds when the park first opened. Kings Island's antique cars announced today is literally what they advertised (something old is becoming new again). Canada's Wonderland's Frontier Canada area is the area that they had wanted to create when the park first opened in the early 80s. Next year is Cedar Point's 150th season, so it's possible that their 2019 attraction is a callback to the park's history of some sort. If Kings Dominion follows the same pattern, the train ride also fits very well here, too. For those who do not know, while details are scarce, KD had a steam train in its first years of operation.

All aboard the KD Hype Train! Literally!

From a pragmatic point of view, with the locker policies, a transport ride sure would help with getting back and forth from your central locker and the rides.

For the record, if Kings Dominion puts in a true, honest-to-god, transport-focused railroad, I'll literally throw a party to celebrate it and I'll invite all of you.

I think it is HIGHLY unlikely... But at the same time, I can't think of any addition I'd rather have.

Now a transport steam train at Kings Dominion is what the park really needs. I think removing the original train was a big mistake and adding one would get me to come to Kings Dominion, which I haven't set foot in since 2015 or so.

Does KD really need a transportation ride? I can't think of many places where a train would be practical. In my opinion, KD is small and flat enough to walk almost anywhere unless you are in Safari Village, trying to get to Old Virginia. It seems easy enough for them to just add more pathways for anything else.

I would say "for admiring the scenery," but at Kings Dominion? Personally, a sky ride or something from above sounds more appealing to me. A one-way between SF and OVA would make me very happy.

A track along the outside of the park would work best for now. Because KD is the most undeveloped park in the Cedar Fair chain (there’s more undeveloped land around the park than there is developed land inside of the park), they could easily do what Busch Gardens does and add railroad crossings if the park decides to create any additional areas outside of the track after the train ride opens. For those wondering, according to Cedar Fair numbers, KD has 280 acres developed and 480 acres that are developable. That’s a LOT of land.

I keep thinking about how a train ride would not only improve transportation, but it would also be good for the holiday events. I know Kings Island has a 12 Days of Christmas overlay that they put on their train ride for WinterFest, and KD could easily copy that. Also, I’m not sure if any other Cedar Fair Parks with trains do this, but for Halloween Haunt, KD could have a haunted train ride or something to add to their already superb lineup.

I think a train ride could do wonders for the park, not only for transportation, but for the holiday events that keep the crowds coming, and more importantly for CF, the money flowing.

If a skyride did that, might as well do a BGW full circuit from International plaza to candy apple grove to Safari Village.

My big issue and why KD shouldn’t have a transport ride at this point is the very awkward layout (IMO).

Theres a couple coaster entrances are bunched together in two different corners (Grizzly, TT, Racer and BLSC, Ana, FoF, I305 and Volcano, Ava) so it’s not like you continually criss cross the park to get in rides (like BGW).

The park is “unbalanced” in its land use. To the left of the KDET there is much much more than to the right.

Soak City is awkwardly split in half by Racer. I would defend 100% a stance of moving Baja Bends, FreeStylin to the main part of SC, build an all new lazy river back there, where there’s plenty of space in the area between the lockers and the soak city splash house to create a big sitting area, then put the river looping from there back by Racer, Apple Zapple, and TT.

Sorry, KDs layout is something that really annoys me.

You and me both, friend.

I've always wondered if they would be willing to spend the money would they move all the back of the house facilities over by the Catering Pavilions so they could use that area for expansion to actually balance out the park rides wise. The park is already badly painted in a corner with how things are placed now, and moving the North half of Soak City into the South Side and relocating all the Park Facilities to the other side of the park would free up a lot of space for future expansion.
