RE: Who will make the "Multi-Launch Coaster" for 2012

I'm on my way to BGW now to see if the balloon test is going on. I'll post about whats going on as soon as i find out.

RE: Who will make the "Multi-Launch Coaster" for 2012

Well I drove by a few times and never saw the balloon. That can only mean two things:

1. The tallest point of the ride can not be seen from 60 or the I-64 overpass and the balloon was up or...
2. I either missed the balloon test or it wasn't in the air yet.

sorry guys

When I went for the drop tower test, it was done by like 10.

no, it would be a regular old helium balloon I would think.

Well that would explain why I didn't see it. I was in class till 12:30

RE: Who will make the "Multi-Launch Coaster" for 2012

I was at the one for Griffon. Quite underwhelming to be honest. they take a red helium ballon maybe 3 feet around or so I guess and raise it to the proposed height of the structure. You basically just see how much of it shows above the tree line. I watched it from the fire station in grove and from route 60 across from the parking lot. That was back in 2005. I'm glad I saw it, if nothing else to say I was there, but it's not much of a show.

Well I did some digging and found this massive pile of answers:

RE: Who will make the "Multi-Launch Coaster" for 2012

That was an interesting read. so FYI, existing grade ~55 feet above sea level.

RE: Who will make the "Multi-Launch Coaster" for 2012

Nice find! Anyone have any idea what 55 feet above sea level actually is around the BBW area? I wonder if there is an app for that!

RE: Who will make the "Multi-Launch Coaster" for 2012

Thanks to the concept coaster that I was working on, I know that the area is about 30 ft above sea level around where the station is. This means that the structures will be about two stories tall, no biggie.

Maybe check your gps stats on your phone or gps. They should include elevation/altitude.

RE: Who will make the "Multi-Launch Coaster" for 2012

You are correct, it does show altitude on one of the gps apps. I was there last night, now I have to wait until next Friday to go check it out.

RE: Who will make the "Multi-Launch Coaster" for 2012

I tried earlier but the clouds and rain make it a little tough.

RE: Who will make the "Multi-Launch Coaster" for 2012

well, my gps didn't work exactly right but according to Aster elevation data, the walkway in front of the old BBW queue is about 55ft above sea level.

RE: Who will make the "Multi-Launch Coaster" for 2012

It's worth noting that there is a huge pile of dirt behind the Der Autobahn. I'm guessing it'll be used to level the terrain. :s The question is, why are they starting so early?

RE: Who will make the "Multi-Launch Coaster" for 2012

My guess is that this new coaster will be a massive addition.

Apparently they know how much of a loss removing the BBW was, so now they are trying to make the new attraction as big as possible to soften the hearts of the coaster fans who hated the removal of BBW. (rest it's soul )

BTW, I know how you feel about the removal of BBW, Nora. It was the first ride I've ever rode at BGW. This new coaster better be amazing, or I may never step foot in Oktoberfest ever again.

The least they should do is have a plaque of some sort to remember the BBW by.

RE: Who will make the "Multi-Launch Coaster" for 2012

What ever happened to the Spain rumor? Is that like out of the question?

That pile of dirt might have something to do with the massive hole that is located where Katapult was. Just saying
