RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

As far as the drop tower goes, a new type is being built for Cedar Fair parks.

http://www.thecoastercritic.com/2010/08/windseekers-announced-for-cedar-point-kings-island-knotts-canadas-wonderland.html

WindSeeker will be a 301′ tall swing ride that should give some breathtaking views while spinning riders at 30 mph. The ride will end with a 26-story freefall at 64 mph.

Now I know Busch's plan is for the tower to not exceed 260' feet or so, but if they can design it for 301', then Busch's requirements would'nt be an issue.

The views would be unbelievable!!

Sorry about the link. I'm at work and there are restrictions for browsing, so I can't post a link.

thanks for the info im pesonally not a big fan of drop towers and wish the they would put in like a big bad wolf 2.0 or big bad wolf tribute when they expand germany, or atleast put a sign up saying the history of the spot.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

Whatever tower ride is coming to BG will most certainly be very different from what the four Cedar Fair parks are building this year.

i think everyone just needs to take a deep breath and calm down. the "PRESS RELEASE" will come when it comes. busch gains nothing right now by announcing it. why? because they are concentrated right now with promoting HOS and CT right now. they'll worry about getting the word out on the drop tower when they focus on advertising for the 2011 season. otherwise theres no reason to talk about the tower from their point of view.

Agreed. People are getting a little antsy about this. We can't use Griffon's announcement date as a barometer. It's a very different beast from a tower ride. The Griffon announcement came just before they broke ground. It seems that Busch tends to make a pre-announcement as to when a real announcement will take place, so look for that first. EiTA's announcement this past year came two months before it opened. Let's relax and wait for it, and speculate until we hear the news. I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't hear about this until after HOS.

I was at BGA when Sheikra was being constructed (way before ground break for Griffon). My family was talking to a park manager who accidentally spilled the beans on Griffon. It always awesome when that happens from a senior manager.

I agree though, we will know when we know about any and all plans for the park when they are released

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

If you'll notice in my above post, I do say that we should speculate about this. However, what James is referring to is that some people were voicing frustration over not hearing an announcement yet as opposed to speculating about it.

Cool. I'll take down my post as to not warrant any further needless bickering that may occur. LOL :p

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I had a thought. If they were going to move the scrambler ride or any other flat ride to festa wouldn't they still have to file a building permit for that area of the park as well?

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

You know Busch Gardens is getting ready to be hit by that hurricane... Maybe that's why they havent announced anything yet, just incase some damage comes to the park. That's probably why they wont announce it 'till after it blows over???

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

yeah i doubt that 100% that hurricane has only been around for about a week tops. and its not even going to affect that area

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I'm pretty sure the weather has nothing to do with a press release.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

theyve been planning this for a while now so why would they let a hurricane stop them from doing what theyre going to do

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I can vouch for the Tidewater region....God just has some weird forcefield around Williamsburg/James City. The last time a hurricane did any real damage to the park they had it cleaned up in less than a day(this was like eight years ago). Actually, small tidbit, most of the downed trees in the park were left after Isabel swept through. Yea I wouldn't bet on that hurricane being the reason for the lack of a site.

Agreed. I can't see Earl really throwing a wrench into Busch's plans.

On a side note, does anyone really know why the station is still there? I know the question has been asked. It's just so bizarre.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

I while ago I had said that I thought the drop tower was going to be a white column with blue seating and trim and a few people asked me why I thought that was, so, I figured I'd let everyone know why I think that's going to be the case.

First of all, the colors have to match the sky. The sky tends to be a mix of whites and blues. Second, this is sitting in the spot the tower is going to be built.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

Sounds about right. By the way, they better relocate that thing. It's an icon in the park.

RE: Replacement Project For Big Bad Wolf

At the risk of sounding like an jerk, Chris, but wasn't it well documented in Spring what the colors of the new tower are going to be? It's James City County code that dictates what the colors will be. As you said, something of that height will need to blend into the sky as to not distract from the local communities and preserve the colonial-area heritage and skyline.

I feel like I'm missing something here. :(

PS: I wouldn't worry about that sign, it definitely has a place in the park. I promise. ;)

And man, where is everybody tonight? I know it's a Saturday night and all, but there hasn't been any posts in hooouurrsss. :(
