Listen, 10 posts later, I think it's well established that Alpengeist is officially in Germany.

For my part, I still say it groups with New France as far as impressions go. It's that way for me, and I can't be the only one.

It plays with Le Scoot, which is in New France, if they themed it to Switzerland (HELLO ALPS HERE!) it will blend in easily between France AND Germany. The only thing that really is needed to sell the new hamlet is a rename of Le Scoot and some of the Alpengeist snow colored concrete.

You hit it right on the spot! Alpengiest just lends itself to New France. The area it is in just seems like it. The only thing making it in Germany is the name, back story (which the Alps are the same in Germany as they are in France), and that is just where the park may classify it.

But yes, the ride and the small area itself before getting to the gate (where they hold you before entering Germany at 10:30am) just seem to be in New France. It is sort of a jumbled mix between the two areas.

Either way, it is in Germany, seems like its in New France, whatever. It would go nice with a Swiss theme. Especially since the Swiss and Germany Alps are next to each other, I believe.

Oh I agree, they may - but I was just saying that I really don't see them dropping the current menu, which is nearly identical from park-to-park.

Haha yeah that probably was not that reliable. I just copied and pasted something from a website. Yeah I'm sure you could find a way to keep trappers and still change the theme to Switzerland.

I wouldn't say the name and story is the only thing that makes it German. The station itself is modeled after a traditional Alps ski chalet. I visited one about an hour south of Munich a few years ago and it totally reminded me of Alpengeist's station.

This is also another reason why people think it's part of New France. Alpengeist's station looks nothing like any of the buildings in the Rhinefeld hamlet, which was created to resemble a small German town. The station's design of a being a traditional Alps ski chalet (known for being mostly constructed with wood) looks more similar to the buildings in New France.

Alpengeist = German word = Germany
New France = Canada

The Alps are NOT in Canada; however parts of the Alps are located in Germany. The coaster is located on the German side of the bridge, plus New France wasn't exactly known for prime skiing conditions at the time. Therefore, Alpengeist is located in Rhinefeld, not New France.

Maybe if they retheme New France, Alpengeist can be part of that new hamlet, but for the time being, it's in Rhinefeld/Germany.

I feel like you guys are being harsh about this. So a few people assume Alpengeist is part of New France because of a few similarities between the two. I am sure if you asked any random park guest they would think the same thing too.

Our points are valid. We think the ride is par of New France because it doesn't match the Rhinefeld hamlet, it opens before Rhinefeld does, it is very close to an ride in New France and it even wanders into one part of New France by the other end of the bridge. Ever heard of the French Alps? Yes, France has them. That was something I immediately thought of that linked the ride to New France.

Your points are valid too. It has a german name, german based story line, german based architecture, etc.

The overal point is, some think it is in New France some don't. There is no need to constantly bash those, or at least constantly repeat yourselves it is in Germany, when we were only offering certain things they made us feel it was in New France.

Anyways, the Alpengeist location discussion should develop its own thread, back on to the re-theme of New France.

New France can easily be themed to Switzerland, after all look how they transformed Hastings to Killarney. However, the overall feel of New France make it fit. Maybe it is just me but I think all parks should have at least one hamlet dedicated to Canada :p

Add some chocolate and cheese places into the area, with the Swiss flag and it already looks like Switzerland. However, then you have to rename the Caribou Station and retheme an entire train, with new costumes for employees, etc. The Smokehouse can just stay the same, I see no reason to really change it, after all its not like the park hasn't collided contradicting themes before. Take a look at the New France booth/stand thingy sitting in Scotland.

You can't have a Swiss restaurant that only sells North American frontier-style brisket and stuff. It'd be like is Festhaus just sold pizza and whatnot...

...

oh.

Seriously though, I wouldn't be a big fan of the rejection of theme...but everybody else probably wouldn't care. *sigh* :(
