RE: Pompeii makeover

^Its just an empty shell. That whole building could be torn down in less than a month if they wanted to build something else there.

I still stand behind my prediction that Pompeii is the next ride to bite the dust.

Lets get a bet going. I say Europe In the Air for sure.

Don't want to let this thread get too far off topic so I ask to keep the discussion to the Pompeii Makeover/ removal only. Thanks!

Well, I suppose if they were planning on the removal of Pompeii I think they could probably keep the building and a few things yet transform it into something new and interesting. This is giving me an idea!

I wouldn't mind seeing it redone or replaced however Pompeii has had reliability issues since day one yet the park has kept it around for almost two decades. I don't see them getting rid of it anytime soon especially since they've kept it for this long.

And again I say NO to a Greek themed hamlet in the park. Their mythology has been used to theme rides and parks all over the planet. If the park adds a new country it should be Spain. That country is rich in history and has beautiful architecture from Seville in the south to Bilbao in the northern Basque region that would blend in nicely with the existing park.

I take it you aren't fond of my Pandosia concept then :(

I just read your Pandosia post.

It's an interesting concept and the way you laid it out looks good but for me personally I'm just tired of the Greek themes, and Charon is a well known myth that's been used in TV and film (Hello, Clash Of The Titans).

If the park were to do a new country it really should be something out of the ordinary and that's not well known. Kinda like what Port Aventura did with Shambhala in their China section of the park.

Actually, I was trying to pick obscure names and mythology. I first looked at ancient greek cities, and saw Pandosia was currently abandoned so I went with that city which happened to be near that particular river which just happend to have that Charon mythology. It was not pre-planned out or anything, just a crazy coincidence. But I totally get what your getting at with trying to be unique rather than reuse the same ideas other parks have been using for years.

EDIT: I was also trying to keep much of the current Pompeii set-up just re-design the area around the building and pool.

how about something like this

The only problem with that is that Nessie is right there and we wouldn't want the debris to fall on her.

Nessie is further away from Pompeii than you think and there's something called controlled demolition that can keep Pompeii's debris within it's own footprint. Trust me if Pompeii goes Nessie will not be threatened at all.

I'd rather see a ton of money put into a water darkride than a massive drop.

This is what I was kind of having in mind. Make it almost like Journey to Atlantis but instead of relics bouncing around and a snake-lady attacking you, maybe have a screen showing a volcano erupting in the distance, or something like that.

If they were going to remove it, I would definitely want them to have a theme along the lines of the "Revenge of Pompeii". Something that signifies that the terror of Pompeii has not subsided.

I can get behind that.

I actually love Journey to Atlantis at SWO- I just wish they'd put some money into effects upkeep on it.

Radical new hamlet idea.....Atlantis!

Wouldn't be that hard to expand into the area Pompeii already occupies & would be somewhat European.

Sorry Party Rocker, I just thought of this just now & don't have the gory details I know you love. Maybe I can think of some.

Discuss....

RE: Radical new hamlet idea.....Atlantis!

Mind expanding on this a bit? Attraction ideas? Theming examples? Shop names? General layout? The concepts board is really supposed to be for more detailed concepts than just simple ideas. :-/

Anyway, in regards to the theme itself, I sorta feel the Atlantis theme has been beat to death at parks all over the globe. I'd rather see something more unique.

Stronger details are coming...I literally thought of the idea just a minute ago...

RE: Radical new hamlet idea.....Atlantis!

Regardless of more details this theme has already been beaten into the ground and kicked countless times beyond the point of being unique. There are three areas themed to Atlantis in the SWP&E chain already, and they actually fit with the aquatic theme of those Sea World parks. It'd be incredibly tacky at a park like BGW where it's predominantly themed to European culture.

Even though Atlantis has ties to mythology in European history, the sheer fact that the theme itself has been beaten to oblivion around the world leaves me wishing for something else to be added instead.

RE: Radical new hamlet idea.....Atlantis!

Sad thing is, in Atlantian mythology, it rarely speaks of water at all, except for it being a naval power & that it eventually sank into the sea.

If it were revived in a different way (other than a purely aquatic theme), it would be pretty interesting.

As far as it being "beat to death", I would argue that it sure beats the KD atmosphere that Festa has, and would work simply on the premise that if it's worked elsewhere, it will work here. (I'm gonna get all kinds of flack from the purists on this one, but I'll stick to my guns.)

Besides, it's going to take them probably a decade to implement a new hamlet like Spain or Greece, so why not just expand on a mostly isolated ride like Pompeii & run with that?

Pretty much this. Originality at the park is pretty important for obvious reasons, not to mention that Uni and Disney have Atlantis (Or Atlantica in Disney's case) already.
