Given the way SEAS has been lately my mind when immediately to "How can this be rethemed to put in one of the 2 Busch Gardens parks?" I hope its not "now ride on the back of a dragon at Busch Gardens Williamsburg"
I was thinking the same thing. I bet you if this concept isn't a total failure there's going to be a "skiing" coaster at another SEAS park by the end of the decade.

As for the seating/standing position, I can only assume the board member who probably conceived and approved the whole thing in a vacuum has never been surfing or visited a beach and thinks a surf board is a self-propelled vehicle ridden like a Segway without handles. Next up, they'll probably unveil a skateboard coaster using the same configuration for SeaWorld San Diego, because "everyone in California rides around on skateboards."

You're gonna flip when you see what those dadgum stuffed-suit bean counting muckety mucks tried to pass off as a "ski lift gone wild" in Williamsburg. An alpine ski lift that rockets people downhill and goes upside down! Those people have literally never been outdoors in their entire lives, like actually literally.

Once they put in a ride themed entirely to a wolf, and there was literally no visual indication of a single wolf on the entire ride! You could hear some howling in the distance, so the wolf must have escaped its enclosure and run away. At least Loch Ness has that Nessie fresco in the tunnel. Maybe the wolf was in there the whole time. And who flies through a Bavarian village in a fiberglass Jetson car strapped to an overhead monorail track? Tell me that.

Have you seen the S&S Swings at the parks? How about the Premier Tempesto clones? The 2023 ride at BGW is essentially a clone-ish sister to SWSD's coaster next year. They aint stopped.
The S&S swings aren’t clones lmao, they are flat rides, they can only make them taller. The tempesto clones, sure. But DarkCoaster isn’t a clone. That’s like saying griffon is clone of Sheikra or Montu is a clone of Alpigiest. They use the same ride system, doesn’t make them clones

I spent about 10 minutes on Google this morning and found a far better name and theme for this thing than Pipeline. Imagine if it were themed to Mamala, a surfing shape-shifter from Hawaiian mythology.

In Hawaiian myth, mortals and supernatural beings regularly intermingle. Such was the case with Mamala, a surfing kapua, or shape-shifter, who transformed from beautiful woman to a great shark, or a gigantic lizard. In one tale, Mamala is caught in a love triangle between another kapua and a chief. The story does not end well for the male kapua, but what is abundantly documented in the myth is Mamala’s great athleticism. She was known for dancing upon even the biggest surf with skill and allegedly loved the wild, windy waves whipped up within the bay of Kou (modern day Honolulu Harbor). The ocean West of Waikiki is named in her honor: Ke-kai-o- Mamala (the Sea of Mamala).

I understand why the SeaWorld parks want to move away from animal themes (the likes of Manta and Mako). That's fine. The answer isn't to go completely generic though (Ice Breaker and Pipeline). Just return to SeaWorld's origins: myths and legends of the sea (Journey to Atlantis, Kraken).

Polynesian lore has gone completely unexplored by SEAS dry parks since neither Busch park covers that region of the world. There are an absolute abundance of opportunities there. Also, just imagine how awesome the branding for a coaster themed to a pro-surfer shark-woman would be...

God, the name is really bad and the fact that they basically reused the Cutback logo with some tweaks is pretty cringe too. The concept is super interesting and B&M deserves a lot of credit for trying something that seems pretty radical. That said, on SEAS' end, this certainly looks like another thrown-together, half-hearted coaster addition with essentially no theme and zero effort beyond the phone call they made to B&M to order the thing.
As a coaster-naming nerd thanks to incessant playing of Planet Coaster in my free time, here are some alternative names I would have selected other than Pipeline (I get it it, I researched it, but its not resonating with me yet):

1.) Wavelength: Ride the Tide!
2.) Beach Breaker
3.) Sky Surfer
4.) Point Break

Love the concept, and I am sure someone in the BGW marketing cloister has already scribbled the name "Drachen Bender" for the iteration of this ride in Williamsburg. 😂😂

This could even explain why you dont ride it necessarily like one would a surfboard.

Curious on how many trains Pipeline will have. I'm assuming just two given shorter track length and recent trends from SEAS for mostly two train additions. Does anyone know?

Yep, sounds about right 😂

Incidentally, in case it wasn't clear my original post was a joke--I realize there are almost always some, um, creative liberties taken on these rides lol. That said, I do have to wonder if it would've been feasible (considering the forces it'd put on riders) to have the restraints angled to the side to be more like an actual surf board.

The “Coaster Capital” branding seems odd for what is largely a marine animal park with the exception of advertising to central FL residents. If I want to go to a coaster capital I can think of numerous other places to visit first.

Seeing as the branding is "Coaster Capital of Orlando," and even SeaWorld's six existing coasters are the most in any single park in Orlando -- the busiest theme park/amusement park market in the world -- the marketing isn't that far-fetched.

I wonder what the g-forces would have been like if they mounted the "seats" sideways so you can actually look like you are surfing.

Assuming there's some type of IAAPA reveal for this, I plan on asking that exact question.

My second question will be: "So who the heck was asking for a new stand-up coaster model?"

I know some enthusiasts disagree, but I'm of opinion that there is no good stand-up coaster. I'd be happy to be proven wrong if this new one is more comfortable.

I was the one asking😎
I seriously love standups, and I can’t wait to ride this new one.
