I have been reading some reports where I305 has been down almost the entire day for Saturday and then yesterday. I hope this trend does not continue i will only be there for on say this coming Sunday.

It was operating all day on Sat 6/6. Hopefully it's open this Friday, but it seems to be hit or miss.

I was lurking on Carowinds Connection and it appears that both Intimidator 305 and Intimidator 232's gift shops have 40% off most of the merchandise. Could we be seeing a rename of the two coasters?

You might remember Nickelodeon merchandise went 40% off in 2009 right about this time of the year too as the parks prepared for Planet Snoopys.

If I recall correctly, the rumor was that the 'Intimidator' Dale Earnhardt original contract was through 2015 so maybe they're not resigning the contract.

If we are in fact looking at a rename and possible re-theme I believe the two rides will get the separate identities that they deserve. Although I'm not a big fan of renaming signature roller coasters, I've liked what I have seen recently from Cedar Fair theming wise (especially the Banshee/Fury additions), so it could work in our favor in the long run.

Any thoughts?

King Kobra? :p

In all seriousness, I think they'd just take the easy route and give it a generic car/racing theme. Top Thrill Dragster?

I think this would be the cheapest, and perhaps the best option.

If they wanted to change the theme of the ride it might take a considerable amount of work that I'm not sure the park would be willing to do, the plaza and coaster cars may be the most work. But hey, if they were willing to make this ride more compatible with Congo, I wouldn't be against it.

With the money that they are saving on licensing, maybe they would be more willing to give it a good theme and name?

Although it would be fairly pricey to re-theme the entire Intimidator plazas, it would be quite something if the park were to bring back the King Cobra name for Kings Dominion and White Lightnin' name for Carowinds.

Another throwback idea is to bring back the old "Galaxie" name. Not only would it bring back a name from the past, but it could also tie into Flight of Fear's theme and make a new 'space' themed area similar to X-Base at Kings Island. Galaxie 305 anyone?

Realistically though if the names are actually changed I'd imagine the themes would still be racing considering the amount of theming both rides have.

I think kings dominion should keep the name the same because kings dominion is mostly regulars in the people that go there, this would be just like a person getting a new name, everyone who knew them before would still call them the same name. If the name is changed alot of people who go would still call it intimidator.

Apparently Carowinds' Intimidator's merchandise is now 65% off clearance. Has anybody checked Intimidator 305's merchandise the past day or so?

I'd say this pretty much confirms a rename or even possible re-theme...

So if they are creating these huge rides, why have they not adopted the same lift hill as the Intimidator 305? Fury 325 looks like it takes upwards of 25-30 seconds to reach the peak of the drophill. Intimidator only takes 10-12 seconds. That's a big difference in run times. Is the cable drive on Inimidator more expensive than the traditional chain drive? Just seems faster would be better for such a large hill. I know I hate that wait to get to the top.

Intamin built I305. B&M built Fury305. Why B&M chose the lift mechanism they did is unknown to me. It may have come down to timing. They may have needed the lift hill to roll more slowly to allow more time for other trains to complete their runs.

To be honest I do not know of an example where B&M used a lift system like I305, but I am hardly an expert on B&M. It is entirely possible the system is patented.

Well I305 and Fury325 are not built by the same company. I305 is an Intamin product and Fury325 is a Bolliger & Mabillard product. B&M has never used cable lifts on any of its coasters. They have always used chain lifts. I suspect it's just the manufacture's preference or perhaps chain lifts are more reliable than cable lifts, I don't have any data to support that theory.

Looks like Zimmy and I were writing that at the same time ;-)

I revised my previous post because I saw they were built by different companies, Intamin and B&M. It could the timing since i305 only has 2 trains on the track and Fury looks like 3. But that wait time.. geez. I hate the lift hill the most and going that high that slow is just unappealing. I like the speed of the i305. Haven't ridden it yet, but hope to next season.

B&M is often slow to adopt new tech that they themselves did not create.  Launch is a good example.

So Hulk was a hybrid from what I've read since B&M didn't like the launch system. Be interesting to see how they reconfigure that and if it stays at IoA.
