RE: New facial recognition entry system at BGW & WC

Yeahhhh... I'm definitely going to decline that. I'd rather just show my I.D. than have some weird technology storing my face in a database. I also don't like how they act like this is for our protection... yeah right.

I'd love to have the managers or park owners on the first day really pushing this system and making everyone have their pictures taken and I just completely shut it down when it comes to me. I would wear my sunglasses and when they asked me to take them off, refuse and say do NOT take my picture, I will only show a photo ID and that is THAT!

I'm excited for this as the finger scanners only worked once in a blue moon out of the dozens of times I had visit the park while they were in operation. Hopefully after this year the lines will move faster once they have all of the photos in the database. I imagine it will be quite chaotic the first few weeks of the season.

r/edgy

I was under the impression that the biometric finger scanners worked somewhat reliably. They've worked almost every time I've gone, and pretty quickly too!

Progress is progress I suppose, but is this really the thing that needs an expensive overhaul the most?

One concern is how many actual bodies will be there to use the handheld scanners. The current system might have one employee to 2 or 3 fingerprint scanners. IF they don't keep it staffed (like that ever happens there ), I would imagine it could end up slower.

I don't see the issue with having a picture ID system in place. They did it before years ago and nobody had paranoid delusions about anything malicious coming from it. I mean, they were storing all of our fingerprints before... I'm 99% sure BGW has no plans to 3D print masks based on our faces and go robbing banks.

Welcome to the Forum. Feel free to introduce yourself

I can understand not having a desire to have your photo in the system, but I don't see the point in being baligerent about it. It would make the entire experience smoother for everyone involved if you were polite about it.

That being said, I assume you are a Virginia resident with a drivers license. Five years ago or so the Virgina DMV started uploading everyone's faces into a facial recognition database to make it easy to identify criminals. As I said before, your photo is everywhere already, what does one theme park's database matter?

RE: New Facial Recognition Entry System

In my opinion as long as the park kept the gate area staffed I had no problem with the original fingerprint scanners and to the point this new system seems like total Bulls**t. The hell do we need to facial recognition programs for when the old system worked just as fine and to this it reminds me of an old saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

RE: New Facial Recognition Entry System

The old system was pretty "broke." The times when a team member just gave up and waved me through the turnstile because the fingerprint scanner wouldn't cooperate, outnumber the times when the machines actually worked properly three to one.

You may not have had any problems with it but, as a whole, the fingerprint system has not always been efficient. Most of my friends and family members with Fun Cards and Annual Passes had problems using the finger scanner.

And as I said in a previous post, this system is used by the Disneyland Resort and really gets the crowd through the gates quite easily. And considering both of those parks bring in 25 million-plus visitors per year, BGW should have an easier time with it.

RE: New Facial Recognition Entry System

I think for the first few weeks at least they need a dedicated area somewhere on the downhill walk to the front entrance away from the turnstiles to get your pass scanned, do your facial scan BEFORE you get to the Turnstiles.

And to that effect send out E-mail to all pass holders making this process clear, concise and the location of said place.

It would avoid the chaos that will ensue at the gate. I'm sure they could set up a temporary shop somewhere along the way to take care of this.

Somewhere other than guest services though would be ideal.

Something I noticed in an E-mail from BGW for Pass Member Preview Day down at the bottom in the fine print it says to be sure to bring a photo ID on your next visit. Guess they are going to verify your identity as well before facial scanning.

Just my thoughts.

I assume the guest's face showed up on the turnstile's monitor for the cast member to view and verify.

Yup.

1. because it did not work well.
2. technology moves on.

One of the worst expressions of all time, "We have always done it that way."
If BGW followed a model of, as you say, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it..." we would all still be standing in two different lines every time we went to the park and paying in cash or check.
