I apologize if I'm taking your point out of context for this, but I believe that is exactly the problem with Busch Gardens Williamsburg's pass perks. Theme parks give many illusions. Among those illusions is the feeling of being entitled to a certain amount of benefits that don't have to exist. That said, they can't even keep their end of what they say they will give you.
I guess the real problem that I have with this personally, is that I think they should focus on fixing smaller issues (pass member lounge and other benefits) before jumping to big things like this. It's a tough situation for them to win this one, but hopefully I am giving some idea of what they could do to please both sides.
I totally get that and I don't completely disagree with you, I think this is just a smarter business decision when time and money is limited.
Option 1: Enhance pass member benefits like lounge, etc.
Purpose- To enhance entitlements for pass members, provide value to pass
Downside- Upfront costs to establish, no immediate payout (possibility of increase in pass membership is limited as I doubt adding a lounge will be the tipping point in purchase)
Option 2: Provide new rewards program
Purpose- To enhance entitlements for pass members, provide value to pass, increase visitation to park
Downside- Cost of rewards
So yes, both have costs associated but both options achieve the same purpose, but Option 2 has a quicker return on investment as it promotes a tangible amount of visits to the park and the first reward they are providing costs them almost nothing to produce AND in order to use it, you have to spend money in the park.
