RE: New Das Festhaus Show for 2015

I don't want to give too much thought about this yet, but looking to one side, this show could turn out like a Cirque du Soleil show and be quite good; and it might work, but a show that grand would probably be better in France.

It could be another case of (assuming Entwined were good to begin with) a good show being in the wrong venue. Cirque wouldn't work in the Festhaus. Something...Oktoberfest-related maybe??? I feel like that's too much to hope for. The obvious can't become reality at BGW anymore. Makes too much sense...

Is that really necessary? LoL, they are essentially the same thing in different configurations.

RE: New Das Festhaus Show for 2015

I know that the guys who played them in College were fairly annoyed when people mixed them up. Of course the music majors at the Conservatory of Shenandoah University were not known for their social skills.

That being said...

A Sousaphone is a cross between a Helicon and a Tuba and was invented by marching band composer John Sousa. Certainly the fingering is the same between the two instruments and a person who plays one would have a very shallow learning curve for the other, however as someone who used to record them, they most certainly have different sounds. The Sousa has a much more pronounced sound, largely due to its bell direction and the Tuba is a bit warmer.

RE: New Das Festhaus Show for 2015

While a new show is definitely needed, I'm not thrilled like most of the people here with circus stuff and *gulp* accents...

My opinions

1)It will be a slightly different twist on a show that was a theme park ripoff of Into the Woods, and will be even more blatant than before with the recent release of the movie.

2) The circus performance stuff reminds me of previous incarnations which had the elf/dwarf people things and jack...oh im sorry, JACQUES(no relations) doing the twirly ribbon sh!t...

3) Despite these cringeworthy thoughts,I remain slightly optimistic,The past two new shows (MSoRR and SNM) were varying from good to amazing. Both of those shows had us groaning at the concept and each one surprised us. (I.e the rap in MSoRR, which I didnt mind at all, in fact found kinda funny.).

I say wait until it sucks to say it sucks.Who knows, maybe the park will start learning from its mistakes...

Special skills (Magic, juggling, impersonations, etc) are a plus.

This makes me think of the improv bits before Scrooge and Igor's Fright Feast, where the guy would balance random stuff and juggle. Just guest interaction, not actual plot points.

Hm. Nice observations.

Honestly: the show sounds fine. I think it's just a way for the park to slightly update TIO in a way that allows them to market it as new. I know, Scott, glitter, blah blah blah, but so far it seems like a good fit for the Festhaus and its traditions.

I honestly don't think this will end up looking anything like TIO. It seems like the park is going in a whole new direction, now whether or not that new direction will work, we'll have to wait and see.

I for one see an interesting connection here. What is the Festhaus facaded to look like? A town square in Germany. What is this show based off of? A town celebration. They basically have a completely themed building for the show, and they didn't have to do anything to alter it.

I hope we have an SNM shock to the system, and the show works. If not, let's hope it is truly only sticking around for the 40th celebration.

Busch Gardens Unveils German-Themed Show for 2015 Season

February 10, 2015 By WYDaily Staff

Aerial acrobats, singers, musicians, dancers and actors portraying German beer brewers will take the stage at Busch Gardens this year in a new show celebrating the theme park’s 40th anniversary.

Roll Out the Barrel depicts a fictional German town celebrating its 40th annual beer brewing festival. The show spotlights the brewers who live in the village.

“In the same way that Celtic Fyre [another show at the park] celebrates beloved Irish traditions, Roll Out the Barrel celebrates German traditions that have been part of the Busch Gardens experience for four decades,” Scott Gasparich, the vice president of entertainment for Busch Gardens, said in a news release.

The show is from those who organized Scrooge No More!, which debuted during Christmas Town last year.

Roll Out the Barrel will premiere March 27, joining London Rocks, Celtic Cyre and Mix It Up! in the park’s theatrical lineup.

The park has a special price in effect for a limited time. The 2-Park Fun Card, which allows unlimited access to both Busch Gardens and Water Country USA through Sept. 7, is on sale for $75.

I am terribly afraid of how the "German Villagers" will be portrayed. True, Das Festhaus has a village theme going on, but that is meant to represent another era. The Germany of today only looks like that in historic districts. It would look horrible to throw the characters back into a somewhat "Germanic Stone-Age", especially if it is meant to represent their heritage to this day. After all, this is supposed to be an anniversary.

Also, aside from English dialects; I would prefer if the park chose not to use accents, unless they are genuine accents. It is difficult for an American park to pick any non-English speaking country to represent, and make it look classy. Unless the entire cast of vocalists is outsourced, I am almost sure to be disappointed as far as that goes.

That being said, I love it that the park is using Celtic Fyre and "Scrooge No More!" as references. This means they at least know that people tend to like those shows. It also means that they are setting high standards to live up to. The fact that they are hiring the same people who wrote the music and lyrics for "Scrooge No More!" shows me that they are taking this seriously. I am interested to hear what an original German musical sounds like to them. That's, naturally as long as the chicken dance doesn't become the show's saving grace.

^ I agree. American renditions of Germamy usually involve cartoonish cuckoo clock characters with comedy accents which invariably sound like second-rate impersonations of Peter Sellers in "Dr Strangelove" or like extras from a Mel Brooks production. I hope that something slightly more... subtle will be done with the theme.

I wouldn't look too much into the Celtic Fyre/SNM references, they used CF repeatedly for LR, and look how that turned out.

The German accent thing also scares the crap out of me. Every accent the park has shoved down actors'  throats in recent years was absolutely horrid, with the small exception of Celtic Fyre, and perhaps SNM, but those are easy accents to pull off. When you get into Germanic accents, French accents, etc. it will take a lot of work for any non-native speaker to pull off a decent accent.

The portrayal of the people in the show, I hope will turn out to be somewhat traditional or accurate. But every past Gasparich German production has been terrible stereotypical representations.

I'm just hoping everything we've seen out of SG in terms of German shows performs a 180 and we see something accurate for once.
