THE KINGSMILL SUITE

THE KINGSMILL SUITE was originally composed by Donald Specht for a multimedia presentation (which simultaneously employs motion pictures, slides and quadraphonic sound) commissioned by Anheuser-Busch, Inc

Its purpose was to evoke the spirit of Anheuser-Busch's dedication to the preservation of nature's land and life – and to illustrate how that dedication is being applied to nearly 3,600 acres of historic plantation land on the James River, a few miles from Williamsburg, Virginia.

Not only did Specht create an evocative description, he composed an uncommonly beautiful suite in itself.

And to share it with those who cannot view the presentation at Anheuser-Busch's Hospitality Center near Williamsburg, it has been re-arranged and recorded for this stereophonic record.

Donald Specht was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He now divides his time between London and Los Angeles, scoring music for films and television.

Self-taught as a composer, he has written for almost every combination of instruments, from one to eight pieces. He holds the Paris Award for best documentary music and the 1971 Clio Award for Best Music Score in a commercial.

Although filming commercial scoring takes up most of his time, he has composed a string quartet, an Elegy For Orchestra, and several songs and Jazz pieces. Currently he is at work on an opera.

The Kingsmill Suite and the musical vignettes of the Old Country were recorded in London by a 40-piece Orchestra conducted by Bert Rhodes, an English music director who's mark has appeared in many movies and television shows – including the first James Bond movie, Dr. No.

The original soundtrack, and this LP recording were made in five different three-hour sessions on sixteen separate tracks, which were then edited to stereophonic. The engineer was John Richards.

SIDE 1: THE KINGSMILL SUITE
Sunrise begins a new day with a feeling of peace, and well-being. . . then awakens with a sense of expanding awareness of a beautiful land. . . and finally soars like an eagle in optimistic anticipation.

Surrey Ridge brings us to Earth again for a cheerful tour of Kingsmill on the James, an unique residential community of 2,900 acres of forest and meadowlands.

Country Walk offers a leisurely stroll along Quarterpath Road, where once traveled founders of our nation. . . a striking view from the sand beaches of the broad James River. . . and absorbing visits to the remains of 17th and 18th century Plantations.

Proud Heritage salutes the ideas of the early settlers in the land, their pursuit of uncompromising quality, and their unyielding belief in liberty.

Fishing on Kings Mill Pond summons a contemplative moment of oneness with the ancient trees, scampering wildlife, and rippling waters.

Village Dance celebrates the joys of belonging to a cherished way of life.

Sunset finishes the suite with a smiling melancholy of lovers ending a day. . . and then the affirmation of more rewarding days to come.

SIDE 2: THEMES FROM THE OLD COUNTRY
Here Donald Specht treats themes from another area on this land: Busch Gardens' The Old Country. A family entertainment center painstakingly set amidst old trees, ravines, and waterways, it features a blend of the most romantic and majestic areas of America's mother countries.

English Adventures recalls Sherwood Forest. . . Deer and waterfalls. . . Elizabethan streets with charming shops. . . a puppet show and bird circus. . . The Globe Theatre... and a Scottish train station with real live-steam trains.

Nostalgie di la France offers the romance and gaiety of sidewalk cafes, shops, and the Three Musketeers Theater, where actors are chimps and other trained animals. It takes you to LeMans for excitement and even to a French-Canadian fur-trapper's outpost with fascinating craftsmen.

Freude van Deutschland suggests the Willkommen Haus with refreshments, Oompah Bands and dancing. Browsing through the town reveals an old-world bakery. . . a little shop with intricate clocks. For a thrill, there's a roaring bobsled ride. And, of course, Germany wouldn't be complete without a Rhine River boat cruise.

Does anyone know if the howl o scream hoodies are still available? I know it kinda sounds stupid but I told myself that they would be on sale during Christmas and I was hoping to find one. They also look very cozy, is that true?

We now pause for station identification. Toss these recordings. @Alf33, the much smarter of us, informed me the speed was too fast. Sure enough I fat fingered the speed on my direct drive. New and improved (and the RIGHT speed) to follow. Kids, don't try to celebrate the Holidays during a vacation frenzy and quickly setup digitizing a record whilst enjoying spiked eggnog. My apologies. Thank you @Alf33 !

So for Christmas I was given this gal IMG_20181228_193909.jpg
I actually owned this dragon plush as a child, but 5-6 year old me took it with me while my mom took me shopping and I misplaced her. I was devistated that my dragon was lost forever. But this one was found on eBay and a friend got her for me!

Also her tag actually says Busch Gardens Williamsburg on it.

I wish I still had the other land of the dragons merch I had as a kid. But sadly that stuff gets tossed out as you grow out of it. ):

no all merchandise is switched out, they only have christmas merch during christmastown and halloween merch during howloscream.

Here's something you all haven't seen before: A commemorative Busch Gardens Williamsburg computer mouse (with accompanying velvet-lined case, manual, and floppy disk) just hit Ebay. I desperately want to justify buying this for my own collection because it's just so goddamn weird, but I'm going to resist in hopes that someone else gives it a better home. It's currently listed with a Buy it Now price of $15 plus about $5 in shipping. If someone picks this thing up (which I hope they do), please report back! (Bonus points if you got a story from the seller about it!)
