RE: Mäch Tower

As far as a soft opening, I would talk to friends anyone may have working there and find out when they will be doing some evenings of "test rides" like they have done in the past. May be a soft opening after that.

RE: Mäch Tower

Hopefully it's open when I go tomorrow...lol....

Also, I'm sure you guys have discussed this already, but those brakes take up 70% of the tower! What gives!?

Do we know if it will rotate while dropping as well?

RE: Mäch Tower

No, the spinning stops at the top. It is true that the majority of the fall is on the brakes, but they don't really start slowing you down until about a little after halfway down. And folks, there is definitely no soft opening this weekend.

I will give you a hard time. My Grad Party is next weekend. Open it now. Just kidding (I'm not)

Some literature on the subject of the magnetic brakes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linear_eddy_current_brake#Linear_eddy_current_brake

It is impossible for it to spin on the way down... To better explain, why don't I describe how you spin in the first place. There are wheels (3 or 4) with motors attached to them at the bottom of the trolley (the thing that brings the ring of seats up). When the trolley is engaged with the seats, the wheels make contact with the ring. When the motors are running, the tires spin therefore, making the seats spin. When the trolley gets to the top, the motors stop and the seats stop spinning. The trolley then releases the seats and you fall. Since the trolley does not have contact with the seats after the drop, the seats cannot spin.

haha sorry =) just keeping it real

I'm just giving you a hard time haha I wasn't expecting it to be open anyways. le sigh.

Haha I know ;)

Oh and griffonrox, there is a way for it to spin while falling, but it would have to be for a completely different ride, not MT. You know how if you have a string with something attached at the end, like a yo-yo? Well what does it do when you spin the object, the string coils up. And when released, the object spins while propelling downwards. If you could put two strings/chains/whatever they use on each side of a tower and coil the seats upwards, when released the seats will have no choice but to fall while spinning. I know this is highly improbable, dangerous, expensive, etc. But it's a possibility for the theory :)

But yes...it is impossible for MTs seats to spin while falling

RE: Mäch Tower

wow when i look at mach tower in pictures the car looks sooooo tiny, but then if you look at the seats, they're minuscule, so its the perspective of where the pics were taken that make it look so small, when it really isnt at all!

What do you mean?

Hard for me to explain with out drawing it up but think of a center shaft/track somewhat like this:
twisted_decagonal_prism_01_small.jpg

and then some sort of specially built drop car that let's you rotate on the way down.
