RE: Mäch Tower

That is the one thing I am excited about. They need way more flats and another 2 or 3 coasters then they'll be a well rounded out park.

Im betting vertical will be done by next week. I have no Idea how they go about attaching the cab to the tower. Seems like it would have been on the base already... Do they attach it with the top piece?

In your opinion.

The single park annual admission numbers are outstanding for the lack of coasters. Having too many coasters there would devastate the entire atmosphere of the park as we know it.

RE: Mäch Tower

They can build more while keeping the atmosphere- they just have to be creative.

BGW is already a well-rounded park. I'd increase their flat-ride count a bit (NOT with a drop tower), but as far as coasters go, I think they're doing fine.

Well the light could be either red or white (Cedar Point has white Air traffic lights on Millennium Force and TTD)

I wish Busch would have done what the Imagineers did with Tower of Terror; they limited the height of the building to 199 feet to not have to deal with the FCC rule to add an air traffic light to the top to keep the theme of the attraction in tact. I guess that's the difference between Busch and Disney, though.

Well would you be happy for a 199ft tower when a MUCH taller one is just down the road?

To put it simply: YES.

Tower of Terror is by far the premiere tower ride. It has excellent theming and is brilliantly designed, particularly in Orlando, where the car moves in and out of different elevator shafts. Let's not also forget that it is a combo tower and is entirely enclosed. The 106 foot difference between ToT and Drop Zone make zero difference to me; the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror is a much more comprehensive flat ride (but only a flat by technicality) than anything in Virginia ever will be.

And my original comment was merely about how a maypole will have an ugly red light at the top, whereas Disney got around the regulation as no to compromise the theme of the ride.

That's kinda stupid to me considering that actual hotels have those lights on top....

An old abandoned one from the 20s/30s that is haunted wouldn't. Theming.

Comparing a ToT ride to a drop tower is apples and oranges. Two completely different ride systems. Patented ride systems also that you shall never see anywhere else as well.

RE: Mäch Tower

Well how big does this red light have to be, i mean it doesnt have to be so big that it ruins the entire theme.

RE: Mäch Tower

Honestly...if you're standing at the bottom of the ride...you're not going to see the light...the only way you'd see it is if you were driving on the road or possibly from certain parts of the park, but it's really not going to affect the aesthetic appeal because if you're driving down 64 you aren't going to see it and think "OMG that light is so ugly...I'm never going to ride that...it takes too much away from the aesthetic appeal even though I'm driving at 70mph and I should be focusing on the road not a flashing red light on top of a drop tower"

Honestly...

RE: Mäch Tower

Just think about the red beacon at the top of the Armada Hoffler building in Virginia Beach or any other high rise. It would have definitely taken away from ToT, themed to a hotel abandoned since October 31, 1939. It certainly wouldn't go well with the theme of a maypole, either, but my comment wasn't really meant to bash on the tower. It was more of a way to point out a subtle difference between Disney and Busch that I wish would exist at BGW.

RE: Mäch Tower

I will be expecting you guys to get some great shots this weekend. I'll be in Florida so I will miss seeing what has been raised thus far IRL

Taken from the end of sunset blvd on a tripod raised to ~7 foot. The top would CLEARLY be more than visible day and night with the beacon required.

RE: Mäch Tower

Thats High! I cant wait to throw away my fear of drop towers plus i wish they would of done the bavarian maypole swirl instead of solid blue!

RE: Mäch Tower

Did you read the rest of the post? It says: "Construction on Mäch Tower is nearly complete. When the thrill attraction opens later this month, guests will experience breath-taking views and pulse-pounding drops." Looks like we can expect opening day as late as Memorial Day Weekend!!!! It's exciting!!!!

RE: Mäch Tower

I really like the color of Mach Tower, and they did end up placing a flag at the top of the tower. However, it happens to be an American flag. Which is not bad. Go AMERICA!

There's an old video documentary about Arrow Dynamics and DrachenFire that shows men placing an American flag over the final piece of the coaster when it was placed, thus completing the ride. It was done as a celebration and the flag was removed once the ride opened.

I'm not sure if this is the case for Mach Tower, but if it's not I hope it stays. Even though a German flag would be more appropriate, the American flag looks very nice!

And I second that "Go America!" :D

RE: Mäch Tower

It won't stay. When Griffon was topped off, they placed an American flag at the summit as well.

RE: Mäch Tower

Yeah, that's common at most large structure construction sites. It's a tradition. The last thing you want is to cause a ruckus because you aren't displaying the flag properly (lit at night, down in stormy weather, etc.). The only thing up top will be the ATC light.
