RE: Mäch Tower

I dont know if anyone else said this but today (May 27th) they were testing mach tower with water dummies, they had a guy from moser rides standing taking pictures and talking to the people operating it and i got a video of it going up! It made lots of creakes and when i was walking away on the bridge i heard a loud crack.

RE: Mäch Tower

They have to make sure that the trolley will be able to life the ride up first, then they can start testing the special effects.

RE: Mäch Tower

So this trolley hooks up to the passenger car and rotates as it is pulled up by what a cable? Then it lets go at the top and magnetic brakes stop the ride?

RE: Mäch Tower

I dont know i saw the trolley go up then it looked like the entire car went up by itself, also it went up very slow. And this thread just had its 666th post

RE: Mäch Tower

The trolley is the blue catwalk looking thing that was going up and down the tower by itself last weekend. It is hidden by the decorative blue cylinder with white paintings on it. What happens is when the trolley lowers itself over the seats, hooks attach themselves to the seats and then travels up the tower. The trolley moves by wires which are covered up so if they snap, no ones legs will get chopped off ;) the seats spin around, I believe, by a mechanism on the bottom of the seats. When it finally reaches the top the seats vibrate and the hooks let go of the seats which will then freefall and run into the brakes. And don't worry, the brake system runs on it's own power, so if the park looses power and the ride has already dropped, the brakes will still catch you =)

RE: Mäch Tower

Thanks. I thought, reading the moser specs, that the braking system isn't powered. It should be a permanent magnet.

RE: Mäch Tower

Oh, Ok thats why i didnt see the trolley it was covered by the cylinder thing, also does anyone know why it stops 10-15 feet off the ground then a loud rush of air sounds and it goes completely down?

RE: Mäch Tower

the air has nothing to do with the operation of the ride or ride components, its simply the result of the wind shear and vacuum created by the free falling object that is not designed to be aerodynamic, think about the fact that u have a round object with a large flat bottomed surface area, the air has to go somewhere and the falling object creates drag and its simply delayed before you as the spectator hears/feels it on the ground, this is the case on all large drop towers( especially the larger intamin ones), and the braking system should start to stop the actual free fall sensation at about 100 feet, it all has to do with safety, you cant have the system stop the passengers at ground level, cause if something goes wrong with the initial system there would be nothing present to act as an emergency stop, so dont be disappointed when you ride it and are let down by the fact that the actual free fall sensation is very short, given the tower is 240 feet tall, minus 20 feet where the vehicle stops at the top, minus +/- 100 ft of braking only leaves you with about 120 feet of free fall, moral of the story...drop towers are pretty much overrated

I know that you cant have them stop at ground level because if something goes wrong but the air you hear is not wind rushing it is the distinct sound of air rushing out of solenoids.

There are actually 4 wheels with motors at the base of trolley that spin the gondola around... when the gondola releases from the trolley at the top, the wheels no longer have contact with the gondola, therefore not making it spin

Very close, it actually free falls for a mere 82 feet, but the brakes aren't as powerful at the top so you wont really feel it (mostly hear it)

RE: Mäch Tower

I dont know if they will speed it up, but the ascent of it testing was 2:30 to the top! That is really gonna build up the tension and stress on riders!

RE: Mäch Tower

It's so exciting to finally see it in action!!!! As for the slow rise, I'm sure it'll speed up...I mean they haven't even tested the spinning yet so they're probably in the later stages of preliminary testing, plus it didn't even go all the way to the top.
