RE: London Rocks! (2014 to Present)
I've talked to the theater hosts at the Globe, and they say the rules change every day and Entertainment is the one who changes them. Most recently though, I did find out that the theater lobby is open just about all the time. They only close the doors 35 minutes before a show and then reopen them 30 minutes before a show. So you can alway walk into the Globe to grab a snack or just check out the new lobby which looks fantastic. It is such a great shame that everyone has completely skipped over how fantastic it looks now. It definitely has a more regal look.
I will say my only guess with the doors is that they are trying to stop the congestion. I typically sit in the middle of the theater and wait for the crowds to flow out before even thinking of leaving and I have noticed the exits on the side of the theater closer to the bathrooms would take much longer to exit. Mainly because people get out of the theater and they stop and loiter by the bathrooms. It is a very tight space on that side and it doesn't help that the bathrooms are right there.
Also, it might depend on the next show. Some shows are like one hour a part and a line for the show can start forming up to an hour prior the show time. So maybe they wanted to avoid having the crowd try to go through the line.
Those are just two good reasons I can think of.
