however, kissing has never been an issue before in any previous show.
Uhm, what other show in the park have you seen with a makeout session? It has never been an issue before because none of the park's shows had kissing like that before.
I also find it quite hard to believe it is an issue considering how there are other things of a more inappropriate manner on stage.
The only thing "of a more inappropriate manner on stage" that I can think of is Fiends, which is strongly advised as a heavily adult show. Also, it's worth noting that parents complained like crazy about that show. This is advertised as a family show. That's what I find so crazy. Why does the same show that caters to two-year-olds (going by what you said about the puppets being meant for
little children) have adult make out sessions, naked people, and overexposed cleavage?
I'm really surprised no one has mentioned the cleavage in the final number yet. One of the women is wearing a sequin union jack bra-like costume piece under a small tight looking jacket and the cleavage is there.
Is this supposed to help your argument? All it tells me is that there's even more adult stuff in this "family" show.
Also, I do find it absurd that it has now become the thing to just complain about adult references in shows. Honestly, so long as it isn't something blatantly obvious that kids would pick up on, it should be fine to include. That is a good family show, it entertains the whole family including the parents.
PR, I think the issue is that the adult references in this show are anything but subtle. Unless the kid is blind, he is going to see overexposed cleavage, pictures of naked people, and people making out. When I was five, I "got" kissing and all that and seeing it made me uncomfortable. Since it's clear that that this is supposed to be a family show, this seems so unnecessary, and if I were a parent of a small child I would be embarrassed for taking him to see something like that. Dare I say it, but even Entwined's adult jokes are more "subtle." There's just nothing "family" about stuff like that.
Frankly, I don't understand the purpose of these adult jokes. What does it gain for the show other than a chuckle? Does anybody really want to watch it again to hear the adult jokes? Maybe they're there just because Scott enjoys printing out pictures of naked people. Whatever the reason, it does not seem necessary. I don't see the show gaining anything by adding these sex references; in fact I see it losing a large portion of its audience (parents with small children) because of something that isn't really needed, but at lessens the experience.
In my opinion, a good family, err, "family" show shouldn't be comprised of different individual bits that cater to one audience, then another. It should be a show that, as a whole, can be enjoyed by the whole family because a certain age isn't required to "get" it. Take the Secrets of Castle O'Sullivan, for example. They didn't have the animatronic leprechaun there to make the kids think they're watching Sesame Street, they didn't have the girl Aaron there so she could rip her shirt off to make the adults feel like they're at a stripper club. It was a good, solid,
fun show that the whole family could enjoy together. Even Mix It Up does that. On the other hand, shows like Fiends disobeyed this rule but were not supposed to be for children, so there is not a strong contradiction in audiences for the shows.
Sometimes I just walk away shaking my head saying "Scott, Scott, Scott..." This is one of those times.
