We are all wondering that. They just turned them off one day. Anyone know more?

I don't know how true this is, but I heard that the effects were removed because they were too costly to maintain. The head of Nessie apparently moved back and forth towards the train, but it was extremely hard to tell.

I personally wish they'd bring the effects back, even if it was just a poster of Nessie.

By the sounds of it.. The strobes are gone this year. Are they? They worked the last time I rode it in October of last year.

They seem to turn them on at random times. I haven't seen them on at all this year, but who knows.

they werent on last time I went, and that was when the queue was completely full. Aslo the petition just doubled its signatures in the past 36 or so hours. Wonder what's up with that.

A couple things:

The Daily press has covered it, however they failed to link the page, so I only got about ten hits off of it. The good news is that they also added a poll that has over 200 votes for the lights, not as good as signatures, but it definitely helps.

In the article it mentions that the reason for removal was moisture that corroded the system and instead of replacing it the park decided to let it fall by the wayside.

In my letter, I will propose a new system that is built with this moisture accounted for. Such a thing would cost no more than 100K, mere pennies for such a large organization, in which a new coaster costs an average of about $18,000,000(including the last three coasters).

Well, I have marketed it hugely. I cant thank the sites that have helped get the word out enough. I know that we can reach our goal in a short time given that people know it's there. When I submited the tip to the DP about ten days ago, I was not expecting to get a front page story.
(btw, thanks for the main page article Chris)

They turned them off because they wanted complete darkness (fact). It makes the ride more thrilling because you don't know what's going to happen next, then once your out of the tunnel (if you haven't rode the ride yet) your in suspense.

I'm not sure that's really a fact. The effects didn't really light the tunnel up (aside from the strobes). How do you know that's a fact?

A friend of mine (who's not an enthusiast, mind you) said that during her first ride on LNM, she spent the time in the tunnel thinking of how they might change that part of the ride to make it more exciting.

I was told that the lights and effects were only placed in the tunnel for the 25th anniversary, or was it the 20th? Eh~ I can't remember... it was a long time ago anyway. I really doubt they will reinstate them; but one can only hope. :(
