My family went to BGW when it first opened in 1975. I was 5 years old. I don't remember a whole lot about the trip but I do remember riding Le Scoot. We all rode it once during the day and as it was getting closer to closing I wanted to ride again. My mom and sister didn't want to get wet so it was just my dad and me. We waited in line and finally got on. We started up the lift and were almost to the top when suddenly the lift stopped. I was pretty scared and after what seemed like a long time to my 5 year old self (it was probably only 5-10 minutes) someone came to help us walk down. I remember being scared walking down because of the height and it was starting to get dark. The next time we went to BGW I rode Le Scoot even though I was nervous that it would break down again. I've continued to ride it every time I've visited and I do remember the first little drop and small climb that was later removed. It's a shame it was removed. It made a good ride even better.

Never knew about this. I can imagine it also made the ride longer than it is today. When did they remove it?

The drop is still there. It's the small drop before you get to the "saw mill" shed. It used to drop just a little lower and then a slight incline back up. It didn't increase the length of the ride but it gave you just a small hint of that feeling you get in your stomach when you go down a hill on a coaster. If you go back and read post #2 of this thread you can see a pic and post #19 tells you when it was removed.

Not to plainly 'disagree' with you Hawth, but the ride would have certainly been longer before this modification. As it sits, the log goes down the small drop and goes into the next turn with quite a bit of speed. With the old incline, the speed of the log would have been reduced, giving more ride time between the final 2 turns and the sawmill.

I could be wrong, but you two don't seem to be talking about the same measure of "length." It could be longer in terms of time without being longer in length, right?

I would expect that the difference in ride time would be seconds and not substantial. Then again, a few seconds can really make a difference.

I didn't mean time. In my original post I probably should have been more clear that only the incline was removed and not the drop too. I assumed Mike541x was thinking I meant an extra drop not present in the ride today was removed.

Thanks for clearing that up. Yeah I was originally assuming there was another extra lift/drop. I've always felt that Le Scoot is one of the shorter log flumes out there and that it was possibly modified at some point. Regardless it's still a fun ride I hit up every visit. Can't go wrong with log flumes! :)

In fact an Employee at Le Scoot told me that they would be closed after Labor Day last year, that's why I'm taking it with a nice handful of salt.;-P

Last year all three were open for pass holders weekend and I think lescoot and Roman Rapids were closed after that.

If I recall, the water rides stay open in the daytime and close after 6pm. Nights in October aren't very ideal for water rides anyway since its usually pretty chilly. On weekends with low temps, the water rides stay down all day.

I believe the park will open up the flume through the night on that one hot weekend in October when it hits the 80s, but that's about it.

Lift hill belt was off, too, so that's a sure sign of it not opening again this year. They must have a lot of scheduled renovations over this off-season for it.

There was no fiberglass replacement this off season, it was actually taken down for work on the supports.
