Question:
Can I buy a 1 day ticket for my little one and then upgrade it to a gold pass at the park by paying the difference?

She is very unpredictable on which rides she is willing to ride and I don’t want to pay for a pass upfront if she ends up not wanting to go again.

Thanks! I just found the answer as well.

So I just renewed my pass for next year but it was a Gold Pass and I upgraded it to Platinum. In the app and the website it looks like I am coded as 2022 Gold? Are you not supposed to do renewals if you are upgrading your pass?? Want to check since I would like to go to Carowinds in October. I reached out to the park but wondering if any other posters here have had a similar issue.

The big story here is the renewal promo that is good only through this weekend.

When I reviewed the KD web site for the 2023 passes, I did notice the silver pass including daytime fall visits; but, no Haunt or Winterfest. Gold and Platinum passes include everything.

Makes me wonder if the park will clear out all daytime visitors and then re-open just for Haunt. I guess KD could make Haunt a separate ticketed event. I don't think this applies this year; but, for fall 2023.

Another thing is that silver passholders cannot get Pre-K passes. Only Gold and Platinum passholders can have 2 Pre-K passes per pass (possible abuse of those?).

It wouldn't be something new to Cedar Fair as Carowinds already clears the park out at 5pm or so and then reopen as SCarowinds. Also to note, Pat Jones (former KD GM) moved to Carowinds, but was promoted to the Senior Vice President of Park Operations which includes both Caro and KD.

So this is opening up a huge concern of mine. Tony Clark has been very weird about wording when it comes to fall visits with the new season passes. The Platinum and Prestige+ passes seem to indicate that the fall isn't included outside of your home park but Tony did reply to that and say it is only for separate ticketed events which would be Knott's Scary Farm and (possibly) Scarowinds but that would have been easy to say..... I'm really starting to get the feeling that something is going to happen with Haunt events next year and the Cedar Fair passes are going to be more like the Palace passes where you really only get the summer season at parks outside of your home park.

The way I read it, Kings Dominion Platinum Passes would be valid at all Cedar Fair parks for the remainder of 2022 and all of 2023...

All Passholders: Enjoy exclusive perks, discounts, and more with your 2023 Platinum Pass. Enjoy unlimited visits the rest of this year and unlimited visits in 2023 at all Cedar Fair parks. Purchase between 8/11-8/14 and get 1 FREE Sunday Fast & Fright Lane Plus to be used between any one public operating day 9/25-10/30/22.

Silver use to end on Labor day so I don't know how much you can read into a extension of benefits.

I am considering adding the flash pass to my pass does anyone know if it's valid for the rest of 2022 or does it only start it 2023.

I'm stating what was on the park's web site for 2023 silver passes. It includes daytime fall visits now; but, does not include Haunt or Winterfest. Since both are evening events and, for Haunt, the park is open in the daytime on Sat/Sun. How do you see the park stopping silver season passholders from staying late for Haunt?

I could’ve sworn that Silver Passes in previous years didn’t include Haunt and Winterfest 🤔
You are correct, the last valid day for the silver passes in the past was Labor Day. No visits during fall/winter.

The 2023 silver passes now include DAYTIME Fall visits and Parking. It does NOT include Haunt or Winterfest since both are early evening/nightime events. So 2023 silver passholders can now visit the park from the time of purchase through the end of October.

My question is the following: if ALL 2023 passes get the rest of 2022 plus all of 2023. What happens to silver passholders when Haunt starts?

I and a few others here thought the park would shutdown at the end of daytime operating hours. Everyone one exits the park and the park reopens for Haunt say within 30-40 minutes after closing. You then have to have a Haunt ticket or a gold/platinum pass to enter the park.

Which brings up another question; Did the 2023 silver pass benefits reveal that KD is now making Haunt a separate ticketed event for non gold and platinum passholders?

In any case, 2023 silver passholders can now visit the park during the day in September and October when Haunt is running. Given that there is no daytime park operating hours during Winterfest, silver passholders last time to visit for the season will be late Oct or beginning of Nov.

I think we’re going to see an industry wide shift that parks are going to make passes, even at lower levels, become much more appealing to families. There’s been a lot of violence at many parks and the common denominator seems to be unattended tweens/teens (not to say others aren’t involved). But leaning this way will certainly entice more families to pick up passes than parents buying if for teens who just get dropped off.

Sounds like it also would entice more families to just buy tickets for their teens to drop them off there.

I would think that the grown-ups aren't much more likely to babysit their teens just because its cheaper for them.
Most people using the park as a babysitter for their teen would do so because they don't have the time to hang out with them all day in first place.

I wonder what the logic with this decision was. It seems like a clear path to lost revenue if they played their cards wrong. If a family with young-ish kids (say in the 6 to 12 year old range; too old for a pre-K pass but too young for Haunt) was going to buy gold passes for everyone in their family, now they can just buy silver passes instead and get the same benefit. (One family member can get a gold pass for any gold benefits a silver pass doesn’t get.)

I guess they’re banking on Winterfest to make sure that doesn’t happen? I’m guessing the real strategy is that they think more long-time silver pass families will come to the park in the fall and spend more money on food and merch, and those families will outnumber any families downgrading from gold to silver.

An unintended benefit of this, in conjunction with Haunt potentially becoming a separately ticketed event, is that there may be fewer children at Haunt once the event starts.
