It would be cool if Intimidator 305 was re-themed/re-named to King Cobra since Kings Island did such a thing for The Bat this year.

Or they could retheme Dominator to King Kobra! (ba dum tss).

So I have decided to make a long term #FUNCHALLENGE. This may not seem like much to ya'll but for me it involves traveling to my least favorite city, LA. That in itself is an ordeal!! I will of course go to Knott's Berry Farm with the single goal of riding Montezooma's revenge.

Anyway, the goal is to see if any fun can be had on the West Coast. If my limited experience, Disney Land, Lego Land, Sand Diego Animal Park and 6 Flags Seattle, are any indication, it can not. I expect that perhaps this one place is an island of fun in a sea of misery.

I should point out that Lego Land had potential for fun, but it was a Mommy's Bloggers dream. If you were over the age of 8 it was not for you. This is not the experience, as I understand, of Lego Land Orlando.

Disney of course, suffers from being Disney.

Zimmy, I hope you have far more fun than you anticipate! You did not mention Universal Studios Hollywood and I really enjoyed my visit there several years ago. It was my first upgraded park experience with the VIP option. Today it is $299, but was less fancy and far more affordable then. I did feel like a VIP with staff taking more time to chat, reserved seating, staying after shows to meet the cast, and of course, skipping the lines for attractions. Revenge of the Mummy was incredible and they let me ride multiple times without exiting. I do not think they are still there but I also enjoyed Terminator and Twister attractions. I hear Backlot is cool but I was in conference sessions for work and did not have time to explore it as it closes far earlier than the rest of the park.

Oh and enjoy Montazuma. I still regret not riding KK as a kid!

I probably should have put this in the #funchallenge thread, but part of the point of the challenge was to get as close to riding KK as possible without having to learn Portugese.

I have been to Universal in IOA several times in FL. It has always been a good time. I will not taint my memories of that with a substandard LA version. Plus, that hill in LA. OY!

First. LEGOLAND Florida is amazing. I'm sure Cali is awesome too.

Second. I am moving these posts, as soon as I get on a real computer.

I just may get the chance to ride King Kobra (Katapul) again next year!

I'm planning a trip to Brazil with some friends next year and we plan on traveling to Rio Grande do Sul, Curítiba, Porto Alegre, São Paulo, and Rio de Janeiro. The park where Katapul is located is about an hour drive north of São Paulo. I'm also hoping to hit up Rio Carnaval as well but the hotel rooms at Copacabana are outrageously high.

Be sure to get lots of photos for us!

Will do!

One of my friends going with me has a GoPro that he and his girlfriend use for Skydiving and other extreme sports.  He's bringing it and will most likely want to capture an on-ride POV of Katapul.  I have a DSL-R that is definitely coming with me.  I really want to photograph the Rio Carnaval Parade in the Sambadrome!

Yes, that is a water slide in the middle of the Parade!

Why The West Coast is Better Than The East Coast
A humble rebuttal from a humble man.

You don't like Southern California? You think the West Coast is less fun? HA. It's better out west and everyone knows it. But since you're obviously jaded by your East Coast Snobbery, I'll spell it out for you. Behold:

1. The weather. People on the East Coast say, I like having 4 seasons. Please. It's always nice in So Cal. It rarely rains (precipitation of any kind is highly overrated). And we have seasons too; they can easily be driven to. We just choose not to live in them. Let's be real about it - the weather sucks on the East Coast. It's either hot or cold, rarely pleasant, and always wet. I'm not a astrologist, but I'm pretty sure it's a scientific fact humidity makes people act like assholes. This leads me to my second point.

2. East Coasters are assholes. They drive like shit. They complain about everything, including the weather. Which, y'know, is cool. Because West Coasters are so goddamned awesome, we're indifferent toward your bad attitude. We know you're jealous. We get it.

3. There's more to do in California than anywhere else in the world (including themeparks). I'm talking quantity and quality. More to do because we're not bogged down with shitty seasons. And more to do because there's more kickass stuff to do in CA than anywhere else. The natural wonder of CA is worth the price of admission alone. Beaches, mountains, foothills, canyons and sprawling deserts - all in driving distance of each other. How's the surf in Virginia Beach? Rhetorical question. No one cares.

4. Our themeparks and attractions are the best. Magic Mountain is a roller coaster mecca. Disneyland is the blue print for all themeparks that followed. The San Diego Zoo is the biggest zoo in the world. I could go on and on... And they're all open year round.

5. Our entertainment blows yours away. Music? Not even a question. TV/Movies? Yeah, that too. Hell even the radio is better. NYC has Braodway. (yawn) That's cute. And I'll concede that food (sans Mexican cuisine), either as a consumable or as art, is typically better on the East Coast. But for everything else? It's not even a competition.

Basically, if you don't like the West Coast, the West Coast isn't the problem.

One day I will learn enough Portuguese to go to Hopi Hari in Brazil to ride her again.

I will forgive your insolence for the sake of the Duck.

Wow, this brings back memories of my brother riding this thing and seeing it across the lake. I was about 6-8 years old and thought it was sketchy then. Now I read the above article. Thanks, but no thanks. I always thought it had shoulder restraints, but we definitely were there in the early 80's. So it must not have.
