RE: King Kobra

Not off-topic since it's still about the specific ride and it's new location.

Footers are still visible under the Anaconda lift hill. I saw some in the front seat line.

RE: King Kobra

This was moved to Jolly Rogers after KD for 2 years then moved to Hopi Hari, I cant believe this thing is still alive!

RE: King Kobra

Holy CRAP! The King Kobra still lives?????

If those riders only knew of it's actual history!
Awesome...

RE: King Kobra

It certainly got an up lift, I can tell you that much.

I always try and spot the King Kobra foundations around Anaconda, that is, if I ride it :p

You can certainly spot them from Water Works and i305.

I loved this ride. When I was little I could not even get close to it because it scared the crap out of me. But once I did finally ride it I was hooked.

I really wish they had not gotten rid of it.

Glad you rode it, Theexpzay.  I wish I had!  Below are a couple of photos from what must have been 1977.  That is my Dad waving as he exited from riding the King Kobra.  My mother and I were laughing hysterically because his hair was standing straight up.  He made a quick attempt to adjust it before this pic.  Mom and I were too intimidated to ride it, but we did go right over to Rebel Yell and ride it for the first time.  I only recently learned KK launched by dropping a 40 - 50 ton weight.  Wow, just wow!

It is strange to see the ride without grass and landscaping in these shots.

It would be cool if Intimidator 305 was re-themed/re-named to King Cobra since Kings Island did such a thing for The Bat this year.

i305 and King Kobra have nothing in common.

Anyway, thanks a ton for the pictures Geo! These, along with all the other ones you've been posting lately are absolutely brilliant. They're all very much appreciated!

Anaconda may be a better choice. It's lift hill is at least in the same place the King Kobra was! Look under the lift, and behind the station as you exit. Footers from the Kobra still remain!

At least it would be themed to Safari Village. Sure they don't have anything in common with each other but at the same time it doesn't have to be; it could at the very least be a tribute to it.

Grass/landscaping never grew around the King Kobra due to maintenance vehicles constantly surrounding it Geo. A new 'cloned' version of the ride would serve me better VAman93! (Doesn't seem like a costly coaster by today's standards)

As most of you know King Kobra was the first in a very long series of Schwarzkopf Shuttle Loop Rides. Of course it is still operational in Brazil at Hopi Hari, so if you feel like making the trip you can still ride it.

That all being said, the last of its kind and the only one in the US still standing in its original location is Montezooma's Revenge at Knott's Berry Farm.

Allegedly Motezooma's Revenge is one of the parks favorite attractions and it does not appear to be going anywhere. From what I can tell, I think they have almost Nessie like attachment to her. (please to not be confused, I would never dare compare a shuttle loop to Nessie, Nessie is of course royalty)

There are a couple of differences between KK and MR. KK was pure counter weight and MR is a flywheel. MR benefited from being the last or nearly the last of her kind, and so had many years of design experience behind her. KK was breaking ground and has, among other things a shorter track.

Either way, it is nice to know that the first and last can still both be ridden!

Here is a link to some images of MR. Montezooma's Revenge Images
