RE: Announcement Coming In January

I wonder if they'll show landmarks from european countries that aren't represented in the park. Or maybe just one country that isn't represented YET.

RE: Announcement Coming In January

I remember seeing a show talking about how Disney had a 4D show that takes you flying high in the sky, they have special seats and they might get rid of the old seats and make it like this ride at Disney.

They will probably take you through the countries that the park has already, because they are celebrating the park turning 35, so probably they'll just show England, Scotland, Ireland, France, Germany, and Italy. If anyone may not know this but recently I looked at an older park map that said New France is STILL CONSIDERED to be part of the France Area. But yeah, those are probably the countries they will take you through. It's nice to know they finally told us about all the new stuff for this year. Now we just got to wait to see about the BBW replac. project.

I REMEMBER SOMEONE SAID SOMETHING ABOUT NO LAWN CHAIRS HERE AND LOOK AT THE SPORTS INFO PAGE, NO LAWN CHAIRS ALLOWED, YAY BUSCH GARDENS LISTENED TO US.

RE: Announcement Coming In January

B52s!!!! Ha ha ha ha!! I was saying in the other post how I would love to see an 80's band and even mentioned the previous concert of the B52's and Blondie I saw in Portsmouth. Way too funny!

I tell ya, I love you guys on this forum, because we ROCK! :D

I will be so happy to see the new film in Corkscrew Hill... I've been wanting to see something new there for a while as none of the rides varied all that much from Questar.

I am also hoping the show in Ireland brings down the house. I loved Irish Thunder, so the bar is set hi Busch Gardens!

The fireworks every night in the summer???? Perhaps a lead in to NEW YEARS at Busch Gardens..? I wish.

Ahhhh.. now we wait.

RE: Announcement Coming In January

Nora! They heard us! Now we just need to chant Duran Duran over and over and maybe our wish will come true. ;)

As for the new film, he mentions the Coliseum, so perhaps that means Greece will be the next country? Either that or it's just generic to all of Europe.

The Colosseum is in Rome.

RE: Announcement Coming In January

Yeah, I definitely know this because I was there on New Years, man never go to Italy on new years unless your a good driver, park close towards the inside, don't mind fireworks going off in the subways and in the middle of huge crowds and people throwing wine glasses everywhere. Man what a time.

RE: Announcement Coming In January

Here's a question:
Will the Corkscrew Hill Replacement be in 3D? Soarin' is in 2-D, but the dome screen makes it just as immersive. At this point, I don't think we can rule it out, but I also don't think we can expect it.

Edit:
I also just got the pun:
Europe in the Air=You're up in the Air
Was that intensional? Was I the last person in the world to get that?

RE: Announcement Coming In January

No I was, but I think we can expect this to be in 3-D because that was what there was before, they might have decided to make it like Soarin' and added the dome, but for 3 months just doesn't give them a lot of time, unless it would be 2-D flat screen and not dome.

RE: Announcement Coming In January

I'm thinking a digital 3-D production that isn't all about the gimmick of 3-D (not a story that revolves around things flying at you). If anyone else saw the 3-D version of Avatar, I'm thinking something like that.

RE: Announcement Coming In January

Yeah, I think that would be interesting. I know, they would have it in 3-D because they have always had something in 3-D there. I also think when you don't have stuff flying out at you intentionally because it's in 3-D it makes it more realistic. Because in real life you don't have thing flying in your face just because we are living in a 3-D world.

RE: Announcement Coming In January

OK I'ver been away for a while and radin everything and seeing the BIG announcement the roughness of he CSH ride at CT makes a lot more sense now. I just hope that everything they plan can live up to our standards!!!

RE: Announcement Coming In January

Yeah, Chris is right. It is part of Rome. If they did build Greece, my vote is the Parthenon for a food/ entertainment hub. Iconic to Greece, the Parthenon, though a temple to Athena, was more of a symbol of democracy to the Greeks and served as their treasury for gold and riches. Like a big bank. It later became a Church and then a mosque after the Ottoman Turk conquest. Greece is still trying to recover lost sculptures from the Parthenon, without any success.

When i was in the London History Museum, they has several statues from the Parthenon... amazing. But sad... Busch Gardens would have an amazing opportunity to recreate this masterpiece on a small scale if they so desired.

Personally, I wouldn't get offended by taking something as wonderful and making it into a Theme Park eatery... as long as the quality of construction was so high that even visitors of Greece would be able to appreciate the detail.

I suppose they could expand Italy instead of converting Festa to Greece and adding a Colosseum. But to be honest, the history of the Colosseum is much more barbaric in nature.

And that folks, raps up my lecture. Make sure to have your papers ready by next Monday; this counts towards your final grade. ;)

RE: Announcement Coming In January

Good lecture Nora, you sure do know your history, but I suppose with BGW you have to know your history because it is all about the old country and where we all came from. Oh and BTW Ms. Nora - I'll have my paper in soon I gotta make some changes. :p

RE: Announcement Coming In January

It would be great if they kicked the scenery up a notch. It has always been great but they have tried to keep it in scale to their budget. I think that, whatever country they add, if any, they ought to do big. If it is Spain, Barcelonian architecture would be nice. But then Greece. I can see it now. The iconic white walls and terracotta roofs, Congested streets packed with people, and trade carts, paved in weathered brick. And maybe even a pantheon-like building that could stand as the center of it all. They could use it close to the way they use the festhaus or the San Marco Theater.

Just dreaming though. Things never turn out just the way you want.

RE: Announcement Coming In January

I think they would use it like Festhaus, and to think of it I did hear they were going to get around to rebuilding Festhaus to hold twice of what it can already hold. So maybe they are going to build another building like Festhaus, Just an Idea no need for any rough arguments.

RE: Announcement Coming In January

Ok, I don't know about anyone else, but I have to say this. I totally respect differing opinions on this too. But I have to say it.

This announcement blows.

I was so riled up about what new stuff was coming. With Universal opening their Harry Potter attraction I thought for sure BG would do something to retain its place as the go-to destination for old world/magic stuff. But a turnpike? Ugh! New shows? What about new rides (yes, yes I know, that'll come later, right?). And I LOVE the Abbey Stone Theatre, why would they change it? It's so beautiful!!!! And their scraping Corkscrew Hill? For a history lesson? Laammmeee.

I mean, I know I may be in the minority here (am I?) but wow, I'm so disappointed by this news. I actually may end up waiting until this sports nonsense has passed to go back to the park. I live in Raleigh so it's always a summer tradition, but man. If I have to look at a bunch of skateboarders and bikers.... *shakes head*. I'm just so disappointed.

RE: Announcement Coming In January

I don't think you're the only one that is disappointed in this announcement, but, this obviously isn't the BIG announcement we're all still looking for. I have full confidence that the replacement project for BBW will be national stage worthy and will be a big draw, we just have to wait for it. I'm not going to be surprised if I see some survey crews working in the park late this season. I don't think we should have expected to get a major new attraction prior to BGT getting theirs since we never do.

RE: Announcement Coming In January

Ah, thank goodness. This gives me hope then.

But as others have said, all these deviations from the original old world theme take their toll. You can only shatter an illusion so many times before it becomes a bit of a joke. I'd hate to see Busch Gardens become a caricature of itself and be a "we *used* to take this historical-adventure thing seriously".

RE: Announcement Coming In January

I completely agree about the skateboarding!
It certainly wasn't a very exciting announcement, as compared to others BGE has made. However, taken in context, I think it's fantastic.
The Abbey Stone show was expected to be replaced, so that's not too exciting (and given BGE's set design history, combined with the versatility of the space itself, I think we can be certain that the new theatre will be fantastic!).

But the Corkscrew Hill replacement was out of character for Busch Gardens. Look at this:
1999 Apollo's Chariot
2001 Ireland
2003 Haunted Light House and The Smokehouse (I think)
2005 Dar Kastle
2007 Griffon
2009 Sesame Street

Their new big rides/attractions uaually come every other year. I'm just happy that we're getting something big this year at all.

RE: Announcement Coming In January

From the Worlds of Discovery Blog:

"A visit to Busch Gardens this season is a visit to all of Europe thanks to the theme park’s newest attraction, “Europe in the Air.” This high-tech simulator takes guests on a fun-filled journey across the terrain, over the seas and through the air over Europe.

The continent’s most recognizable landmarks will be featured, like Stonehenge in England, the Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany and the Coliseum in Rome. The journey continues through the streets of Paris, along the Thames River and into the sky over Ireland for a view unlike any other."
