IOE bid for the Iron Gwazi controls but the park went with Consign.

And as far as Consign goes, it's not a surprise there are issues with Iron Gwazi. They lost their B&M exclusivity contract over the Valravn fiasco.
Same thing happened with Invadr. I did not know that Consign lost their B&M contract. To be fair, except for working with Magictecture and the occasional text conversations I have with Brian from IOE, I am pretty much out of the loop as far as amusement manufacturers go

Were it just me, I would take this same approach. However, I will be with a couple that has never been, so all rides will be equal priority. I think that's gonna lean me into the standard approach of Egypt first...
At BGT this morning, gates AND Iron Gwazi opened at 9:45 and we were front row of Iron Gwazi. We then headed to Cheetah (they opened that section at 10 am) and got front row on second train of day at second station. Then hit Montu, and now back in line at Iron Gwazi with about a 25 minute wait So we will have hit 4 coasters by 11 am! Talk about an awesome start to the day!

We rode the back row the second time. OMG it was awesome! Amazing to see the difference between riding the front and back rows of Iron Gwazi, and the back row wins for how the train pulls you through all of the elements.

Storms rolled in right before 3 pm, and haven't let up since. 7 pm concert was moved indoors, and park is closing at 8:30 instead of 10, so no go on Iron Gwazi night ride tonight. That ride will unfortunately have to wait until my May or June trip, as I have an Ice Breaker night ride on tap tomorrow.

Ready for second day in a row! And open at 9:45 again with a back row ride. Any chance Kevin would consider opening Pantheon at 9:45?

Can’t wait to ride this thing Saturday! RMC #3 after NTAG and TT. Basically going to stop in ride and head to Clearwater Beach and then I have to weigh going back and skipping a beach day but Gwazi marathons might be too tempting.

It’s about time I sent them an open items list in September and this ones been outstanding since then.

The more I have thought about it, the more I believe this is my new #1. I cant find any faults with it (aside from capacity.)

You won't be disappointed. I rode it five times throughout the day, including the front, and on the fifth ride in the back I was unable to anticipate some of the elements. I also had three night rides so if you can I highly recommend them (I was at an ACE event so they kept the park open until 10:30 last Friday)

Iron Gwazi

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay is a very personal park with me as it was the second theme park I ever looked up on the internet right after Busch Gardens Williamsburg with my sister when I was a kid so I finally visited the park in early September 2021 in the midst of the my trip to Florida to get my VelociCoaster pilgrimage in. I put the trip together kinda knowing it was unlikely to get on Iron Gwazi based on the current Pantheon situation. I gladly went to BGT and experienced that fantastic sister park to our BGW in Tampa with its African themes, fantastic trio of B&Ms, Cheetah Hunt, Cobra's Curse, and Scorpion. Including Sand Serpent the 3rd roller coaster I ever rode just in Virginia. There was certainly a not great feeling back in my mind as I occasionally caught glimpse of the utterly enormous RMC in the middle of the park sitting there silently little did I know 8 months later I'd be back with a vengeance (.....foreshadowing?) for what was going to be an utterly euphoric ride.

Nevertheless I made the best of my first ever visit and left with BGT in my top 3 for favorite theme parks easily. I got a southwest gift card for Christmas and rather eagerly booked flights to Tampa because I had unfinished business at BGT. I decided to make the trip more of a beach trip and booked my hotel in Clearwater Beach which was fantastic. But I still wound up at BGT 3 times over 5 days. I got off the plane obtained the rental car and ignored the fact I could go to an utterly amazing beach to go back to the neighborhood that BGT is in instead for that freaking massive RMC. I have only been on 2 RMCs so far, with New Texas Giant and Twisted Timbers. Twisted Timbers is one of my favorite roller coasters and NTAG is in my top 10 as well so I knew I was going to love this damn thing. I arrived on a Saturday to a HUGE line with a 75 minute wait. So here's the thing about the queue for Iron Gwazi, that switchback in the station is utterly horrible and you are stuck in it for 30 minutes if it's full at least. If it extends to the point where the ramp is full you are in for a long slow painful wait. But wait I did and received a front row ride on a fantastic beast of a coaster. Iron Gwazi is my 150th credit, my 100th unfortunately was the vekoma boomerang at SFOT before it was relocated to STL but I was speed running the park before rain came in so I wasn't even thinking at the time.......whoops.

Iron Gwazi begins with a huge steep drop that is full of great air time with a smooth intense pullout up into that massive outward bank airtime hill that just launches you back to the sky I was just in on a Southwest plane. Then it just yanks you back down and up into a turn that prepares you for that incredible "death roll" the death roll basically feels like the TT barrel roll drop but fast you hit that with a ton of speed and it is profiled to where you definitely snap backwards through a full roll down the drop. The next turn is just a smooth graceful transition element but you obtain an angle so that you still can obtain airtime if the ride is running fast when it pulls back down to an upright position. Then the next part is just absolutely insane and certainly an element I wish Twisted Timbers had, that massive fast as hell wave turn that zooms under the lift hill that has a ridiculous headchopper. One of the best elements I've experienced on a roller coaster period. The ride zips into what I would describe has a "double up into a wave turn" this wave turn is nowhere near as crazy as the first wave turn but I still got pops of airtime in all parts of the train. You then hit the stall, this is my first RMC stall and the only other stalls I've hit are Pantheon and VelociCoaster and I felt like both of those were more significant to those rides than this was to Iron Gwazi. It was fun and the snap out of it certainly was much whippier than the intamin stalls. You then do like.......idk a double up outward hill into a turnaround that hits a trick track? At this point the ride just keeps going and it's crazy and you're just so happy you're riding this happiness machine. The outward hill has an ejector pop, the trick track is much faster than TTs is and you get aggressive little pops over it. Then it turns around and blasts you into space down a drop before just throwing you into the brake run and you're just so pleased by what just happened.

Iron Gwazi is wild it takes what I've experienced with RMCs so far and just dials things up to over 9,000. It's now my #1 roller coaster, yes it beat VelociCoaster for me as a ride because its just so wild and intense. My only comments are I think it should have 3 trains and they need to figure something out to move that queue faster and also get those damn wasps off the lift before somebody allergic gets stung. I really liked the station and queue it was a great way to repurpose what was already there. The soundtrack in the queue was really cool as well. I love Iron Gwazi go ride it immediately it's amazing. I love BGT. I got 6 laps on this fantastic almost perfect ride during my Florida visit. I hope that BGW gets a sister coaster BAD but we will see.

There are so many rides that have implemented a nearly seamless small item locker and metal detection system in a ride queue. It amazes me that parks continue to not implement this. Such a simple thing to build your queue around, or even adjust to work with (didn't Twisted Timbers do this).
This one at least has zipper pouches apparently. Not as thorough as lockers and metal detectors but that should be good enough

Zipper pouches are bullshit, you shouldn’t have any access to your phone on the ride at any point, they can fail, lockers are much more secure and take away the risk of some dickface bringing their phone on the ride

It's a great thing that BGT has loose article bins....Oh wait. Park Ops didn't want them in the way and finance doesnt wanna give up their locker money so they do stuff like this. I know they have pouches, but honestly, that isn't a substitute for a bin or locker. I can't dump a hat, glasses, phone, and keys into a pouch nearly as easily as a bin or locker, not to mention drink cups. This is an entirely preventable problem that exists because SEAS is a shit ass company that refuses to give up a few dollars in locker sales for the safety and convenience of guests. Shoot, they could even raise the cost of tickets and passes by a few bucks to cover the difference and the whole issue would go away, and they'd get their petty cash. I've pretty much stopped going to BGT entirely and have no intent to renew my pass at the end of the year due to the anti consumer attitude the park has, the horrible crowds it draws, and the apathy of the staff working there.

The worst part of all this is that I know for a fact that several higher ups are flaunting these choices as somehow clever, like they've broken the system and found a way to make even more money while costing them nothing, meanwhile in park experience has plummeted off a cliff. I would say they were wrong but based on the quarterly results, so far it looks like it doesn't matter. I don't know if it has to do with being in a fairly touristy area, but it seems as though the limit for what guests will put up with has not been met and I only expect things to continue to worsen until the numbers look bad.

Twisted Timbers added the metal detectors part way through it's first year and the lockers either year two or three.

Cause there us never a case of a loose article on any ride with buns right?

At this point, anyone who knowingly takes their phone out on a coaster and injures someone should be held liable. There's no reason for someone to get hurt like this because you wanted to film for TikTok.
Anyone taking their phone out should be ejected from the park, have their passes revoked, and be banned for a year.

The individual that had the phone who injures someone else is already liable, but I’d be surprised if the park can’t be held jointly liable in a suit.

While I agree, the problem I seldom the high schooler who wants a selfie on the ride. It's often the random Joe who has his phone in the pocket of his basketball shorts and assumes that's secure.

Was planning on going here for my first time in a few weeks, now I'm not so sure with the prospect of SheiKra, Falcon's Fury, and now Iron Gwazi all closed. That's three of your signature rides. Plus the Sky Ride! 😞
