Welcome to the forum LoveDoc143;

One thing I would like to add is the maintenance crew. After Blackstone purchased the parks, much like the Landscapers, the maintenance crew belonged to a subcontractor. The best part of ending the contract with the subcontractor is that all the maintenance personal were hired by Seaworld Parks and Entertainment and still maintain their duties within the park. This saves the park a ton of money as now the work is being done in house. Good decision if you ask me.

Blackstone, being an investment Corp, know the value of money and good business. If anything, the park will hopefully become more efficient and still remain the quality park we all know and love. I am sure everyone has noticed the increase in landscaping and environmental improvements. Blackstone has been very giving with the purse strings if you ask me.

Regarding the BBW, it is true about maintenance costs. I feel the real reason is not for the cost of parts entirely. Safety is a major part of BGW's lively hood and they have extremely high standards when it comes to their guests safety. Doing my research... I believe the concrete reason behind the removal was the fact that replacement parts would no longer be made by the contractor that had been doing work for Arrow back in the day. This particular company decided to stop making parts for old Arrow suspendeds because it was a dieing breed and no longer profitable. Thusly, BGW would then have to find another company to make parts for the BBW- a quality downgrade they did not wish to make (this goes for any of their rides). Honorable perhaps, but for me... still a bummer. That ride was magical.. I liken it to seeing Santa for the first time.. the coaster that I saw the park build from the ground up when I was seven.. waited until it opened... ran there on opening day...waited three hours... and then rode it. It was like seeing a mythical creature and then taming it. Grr...Irreplaceable I say! (Since you are new LoveDoc.. I thought you may need to know that the Wolf is a little special to me... ... ahem) ;)

Chris is right about the Clydesdales. Being that I know several folks who work with the animals, I know just how much care and effort goes into their maintenance and health. Did you know that most of the animals do not belong to BGW? Many of them are owned by a non-profit organization. Just so you are aware, many animals on the endangered and threatened list cannot be owned by anyone other than a non-profit group. Going back to the Clydes... I admire Blackstone for bringing in the new horses. I feel that they did so to keep the iconic imagery of the park; while slightly changing it to keep things new. The addition of the sheep, herding dogs, and Barn Owl are, in my opinion, very welcome! :) BGW was not able to keep horses that were owned directly by AB. Still, I am sure those horses are back home and are well taken care of.

I know that Italy will be added to Christmas Town; that it is will be decked and gold and themed with angels. There will be more food and desserts as well as a musical performance. Something also tells me there may be more of those magnificent lighted trees...like the one that was in Italy last year, more things to see on the train, more vendors in the square, more rides that are operational, and perhaps sleigh rides??? This bit of info is not concrete of course... but there have been whispers. I wonder if there will be more Monks in sparkly robes? Heh~:D

The Clydedales were actually owned by the St. Louis branch of AB. As such, the clydesdales were moved back to St. Louis where they still remain. .

Gosh, I was told by more than one employee that a number of the Clydes were sold/auctioned, although the primary herd reduction according to what I was told by staff occurred before the Clydes left BGW, and given reports on Theme Park Insider the horses left BGT, for example, well before they left BGW if memory serves. Of course I was assured by stable staff during Christmas Town that they were "careful" whom they were sold to -- I take that with a grain of salt as horses can end up anywhere and AB FAQs about the Clydesdales openly state they are sold as needed at auctions and to other breeders/owners. Also of course the front line staff don't always have accurate information; I certainly recognize that. But the geldings wouldn't be eligible for any kind of breeding, obviously, and now the need for AB hitches or AB team presence as at the old BGW is greatly reduced or nonexistent. It's hard to believe they didn't sell any of the Clydesdales when the numbers needed are so much less now than they were with teams at all the parks.

I do know of course that AB keeps a breeding program at the Warm Springs Ranch, and I would guess some of the geldings possibly went to Grant's Farm, but I doubt they could keep them all. And for me, getting rid of one group of horses only to turn around and bring in the same type of horse, just a different color, was not a good deal for the original group of animals. I understand the reasons for having to get rid of an AB icon, but they do still pour AB/Inbev products ... oh, well. I'm a lifetime horse lover and longtime horse owner so this is a hot issue for me, obviously. I would love to believe they all went to St. Louis but that doesn't really seem feasible and wasn't what I was told at the park. Again, though, I'd love to be wrong and hope I am.

I know I'm being kind of persistent here and apologize for coming on board and immediately sparking issues, but let's hear it for Illuminights!

... and it's great to hear Nora's point about employees like the landscaping crew becoming in-house employees rather than being subcontracted.

Hiya Nora! Thanks for the welcome. I'm new to posting (I guess!), but not new to the website at all. ;-)

You're absolutely right about the maintenance people. While I don't have any hard numbers for you at the time, I know some people chose not to reorganize with Busch after the buyout. While that's the clear minority, it did happen and, of course, that's sad to see happen with good folk who have been around a long time with the park(s). Blackstone has been very good with the park as a whole in terms of how the park is being run and it's activities. BGW, as well as the other SPE parks, have been very fortunate with how the buyout has gone and it's after-effects on the company (imo). While there has been an occasion or two of an idea being put on hold, for the most part, things have been going well (again, imo).

As for the BBW thing (I know it'll always have a place in your heart!), well ... I have a feeling that you're in the correct ballpark. :) ChristmasTown this year will be nothing short of amazing, I would hope. Park capacity will be going up from last year, Some additional rides will be opening up, the main drag of Italy gets opened up (sorry, no Festa) and all the Italian Christmas-related plans going on. I'm excited about the new Italian eateries that'll be sprouting up. :) I'm sure the tree-lighting will be back a little bit more "interactive" this year as well.

But back to Illuminights again. It's going to be great. From the park's staff getting new name badges, to the new signage starting to come around and the park slowly turning into "Summer mode" with schools out and attendance (slowly) going up each weekend, the best is yet to come, I think. Now if only Apollo and his Chariot can get back to work, BGW will be on it's way to a glorious, if not exceedingly hot and humid, Summer that it's never seen before. :)

While I'm not 200% sure right now of the exact situation, I know that the Clydesdales were sent back to St. Louis where a few of them were sold to a couple specific owners and a breeder. But for the time of transition, they were all in St. Louis before some new homes. If I was able to supply something more concrete then those words, I'd love to do it. :(

And my apologies as well. It was not my intention to come here (after all this time lurking) and have a back and forth. I just wanted to perhaps clear something up that for some reason hit me in a certain way. I mean no trouble here - and I"ll more than likely be a quiet lurker most of the time. I'm trying to be "responsible".

Hey, no worries... you are not being persistent and I thank you for your contribution as I was unaware of any auction. I have a hard time believing of any mistreatment to such beautiful and iconic horses. And like you, I am very passionate about all kinds of animals. Umm.. especially owls. If i even heard a whiff of any foul play with the Clydesdales of yore, I would be on it like stink on cheese and have a very thorough letter to mail ASAP.

By the way - BBW; you couldn't pick a more honorable name in my book! :)

Thanks for the information about the Clydesdales and I hope you won't be a quiet lurker, your posts were thoughtful and helpful!

Nora, just one last little clarification, I don't think Busch mistreated the Clydes I just worry about their ultimate fate in other hands but I'd sure like to think AB did the best by them they could.

Anyway, I loved the Big Bad Wolf passionately as it was a magical ride that never got old. Loved it during the day, loved it at night, loved it in the back, REALLY loved it in the front, how could such a wonderfully-themed ride (as much a theme ride as a thrill ride) be gone??? [cry] I had to choose a username to honor it even though I usually use a name incorporating Cairn for my Cairn terriers on every other message board I belong to.

Back to Illuminights, is it everyone's impression that the times of the events in the different countries will be staggered enough to see more than one show on the same night? Can anybody tell? I don't want to just be run ragged but it would be great to progress from country to country and catch all of it or at least more than one place.

I can't wait for Illuminights, because I think this is going to be a great reason to come back over and over again throughout the summer. With all the stuff to see, this should really rake in the guests for the park. I'm only nervous about the crowds!:p

I am glad the Illuminights events will be staggered. I enjoy just roaming around the park. I am sure to go to several nights of Illuminights, so hopefully I will be able to see them all. Chris, maybe another BGWFans trip to see the opening day of Illuminights??

~ Thanks for clarifying. I am certainly with you in that regard.

"Pablo's Chariot" as I call it, as poor Festa looks like a Mexican Carnival, (ugh- that place needs an overhaul)... has had numerous lift chain problems before. I have heard that the ride has had some issues at the very beginning of the season and I am not surprised to hear it has been down for quite some time. Griffin has its share of lift chain repairs as well.

Speaking of Pablo's Chariot, does anyone here agree with me that it has the worst station house in the whole park? I swear! There are some pitiful little fans that no one feels while waiting in an open air; elements exposed waiting area.. (I pity the poor employees) and the station is a metal frame with some tarps on it. Sad..sad...sad.

If BGW didn't have five hundred projects lined up, I would wish they would redo the station house to look like a Roman building with columns, a green roof for eco-air-conditioning (picture vines falling of the side; awesome) and statues and fountains all around. Speaking of Roman columns... why do they still have that old wooded house at the bottom of the second hill... the one the photos used to be taken on? Couldn't they replace that with some ruins that look to be crumbled and knocked over or something?

For a coaster that won the second best (by fans) in the country on Theme Park Insider... poor Pablo's Chariot gets no love. :-/

I'm glad that they put some work into it, but in my opinion, it makes the Festhaus look really quite bad.

That's good to know, its current state isn't... how should I say this... up to the normal Busch Garden's standards. ;)

Here's a picture of the front of Das Festhaus. There were also some theater lighting poles up in France.

Das Festhause looks like it has a big bird house on it....... i hope it looks better at night.

They just added a sweet intro to the main site! Go check it out: http://www.buschgardens.com/bgw/default.aspx

Yeah, that new intro for Illuminights actually was pretty cool. Then, the music sounded like it was cut short which I found somewhat annoying. Did anybody else notice this?
