Considering there were both ride and mountain structure footers, and probably concrete remnants from the original lineup of attractions to boot...

I would love a top tier coaster with good theming that didn't seem somewhat of a let down to replace Volcano. Not to point fingers but....I'm looking at you, BGW.

I would be pretty thrilled with something like Fly at Phantasialand, ngl. Feel like that would be unique enough for the area.
That’s something I’ve been hoping for too, but I would be surprised if they went with that considering Vekoma is just now starting to do big projects n the US.

Based on F.L.Y.'s critical acclaim and the potential to add thematic structures like rockwork throughout the ride area, I think it would be a huge draw. It could also be marketed as "America's first flying launch coaster" or if the second in the U.S., "the mid-Atlantic's only flying launch coaster." I'm glad that with this tilt coaster going to Cotaland, Vekoma is finally regaining a major presence here in the States.

EDIT: I'm also curious about the mechanism used on F.L.Y. to rotate the seats from prone to flying. Is it programmed or something practical?

So the F.L.Y. coaster looks really interesting to me and is extremely unique in the way that Volcano was. So:

What if they did a flying launched coaster, and rather than build a new mountain, they make the area look like the forests of the Congo River basin, and theme it to a bird like the Ospray. I think if you get really cool with this they could get some other rides within this area themed similarly and really make something cool. It replaces something extremely unique with something new and unique and great theme out could make it a worthy replacement.
Welcome to the club!!!

A new vecoma flying coaster would be an amazing addition for KD and, yeah, with their new focus on theming it would fit in perfectly. Bring it.

I've always like a Flyer has KD written all over it for some reason. Hopefully Cedar Fair gives it some consideration. I wish more B&M Flyers would go up so bad with how awesome Flying Dinosaur, Tatsu, and Manta are.

This also seems a lot more likely, now that Vekoma is building Circuit Breaker. Now that a new generation Vekoma is being built in the US, I would imagine it won’t be long before a US park takes one look and says, “build me something now”

I know this thread has been more talking about what we want and if what we want is a possibility, but I want to ask what people think is the most likely scenario here. I think it will be a B&M wing, hot go or not, since CF likes B&M and seems to want one at KD. So what does everyone else think?

It can't be ruled out, but so too could the idea that there is no true replacement but instead they continue the focus back on theming/place-making, rounding out their flat rides and non-coaster thrill rides, and improving the overall guest experience.

Personally I'd be happy with an Intamin blitz or a B&M inverted coaster (different layout but can hold it's own against Alpie).

Snagging a Vekoma flyer isn't out of the possibilities either, though my guess is they'd be more willing to stick with a standard offering from manufacturers they already regularly do business with (unlike all of the Paramount prototypes/janky rides they've been tearing down).

I've been meaning to ask this question for a while. I've realized it's actually a bit of a puzzle to figure things like this out.

I'm not sure about a B&M given the compact space previously used by Lost World and Volcano, which I think would be hard for them to squeeze in an effective layout unless they want to cut down some trees.

Additionally, the rides B&M and Mack produced for Cedar Fair recently have been on the more expensive end, and I don't think the corporation would want to risk turning to either of them to build at Kings Dominion at this time given their attendance and ROI.

Something from Vekoma would only be likely if they still had a major presence in the States with their newer style of coaster design. Cedar Fair often sticks with companies they know are reliable and they aren't as outgoing with other manufacturers as Six Flags or Seaworld. They chose S&S for Tumbili because the 4D Free Spin has already popped up at several places across the nation.

A GCI or Gravity Group woodie sounds fun, except that I don't think a park has ever contained five wooden coasters. Currently we have three traditional woodies and an RMC hybrid.

S&S Axis would be a unique Volcano replacement, but as far as I know only one is being prepared for a place overseas, and as I did say Cedar Fair tends to do projects they know have succeeded around the states. I also consider Kings Dominion's history with prototypes.

That leaves Gerstlauer for me. Hangtime at Knott's is very compact, and the Infinity coaster layout it uses shares a lot of principles with the Eurofighter, which is common throughout the U.S. This way I think it could fit in well on the old plot and adding a pair or so of flats would help balance out the ride lineup on this side of the park. The vertical lift option would also be unique for Virginia (yes Tumbili happens to have one but you're not on your back when going up). Even with a launch layout they could do something similar to Bobbejaanland's Fury, and it could differ from Pantheon in that you could experience almost the entire ride forwards or backwards.

This is me just being wishful- but out of all those options I find the Mack the most likely. Let me explain:
They already have 2 Mack coasters with Reptilian and Apple Zapple. The park already has a really good relationship with Mack, and with Cedar Fair having just purchased Copperhead from them, I find it more likely they would get a Mack launch coaster over a B&M, as the park hasn’t received a B&M designed for them.

I know it is more rumor-ish, but there is a thread on the subreddit regarding the possibility of what’s to come. It has a screen grab of some comments by AirTime Myke discussing the recent investment history CF has done for KD as evidence that KD is very much cared for by CF. He closes his comments with something along the lines of big stuff in the works that may be happening that has been divulged to him (mentioning that KD will go from being one of the best 1-2 punch locations to turning into a 1-2-3 powerhouse).

Of course this is with a grain of salt, but I also do not see why I cannot put some faith/stock into his statement.

It’s too bad that thread turned into a KD vs KI comparison. Was really hoping for a discussion about the next big thing coming.
