RE: Ice Palace: A Penguin Paradise (2009 to Present)

Went for the first time yesterday, as there was no line. Though, the BG staff member still wanted us to walk up and down the RPT line, and some group cut us off and got to go in before us. I hate being an obedient person, sometimes it doesn't pay.

Anyway, it was cute but not something I'd wait to see. Maybe because I've had the chance to be around penguins before in a previous line of work, so though I love to look at them, it isn't something I have to see. Liked the animatronics. The animal care staff person I talked to was very friendly and informative.

Overall, something to see when there is no line, but not something I'd wait in line for.

Because apparently BGW was taken over by the Grinch, the penguins are no longer welcome in the Ice Palace. Can everyone feel my wrath?

Nope. Carl told me they had decided to "mix it up," and get rid of the penguins. We have an ice show, instead. I'm not sure why it needs to be either/or.

I really don't understand why they would want to get rid of an attraction that was always incredibly popular. People stood in incredibly long lines in the cold to see the penguins.

The behind the scenes tour had to have been a money-maker for them, as well. And the penguins were adorable.

So. Very. Angry.

I'm so glad they got rid of them. I felt bad for them...they always looked mad stuck in a small clear cage. I really felt bad for the lines of people waiting to see them. After a two hour wait they walked in and was like...that's it?

So happy they are adding another show!

I have never supported the display boxes, as you can see from reading this thread. What they needed to do was improve their habitat, not get rid of the attraction.

I agree with you. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me that they would cut the attraction that is popular and requires an extra fee. I see it as similar to the fact that the howl-o-scream maps provided Show times for all the shows EXCEPT Blood Banquet, despite it being the only show that brings them more revenue because of the buffet. Someone is dropping the ball.

I think the Royal Palace Theatre was too small for this to begin with. I love penguins, but the way they have been displayed, coupled with the long line, doesn't make me miss them. I hope they can find another location that will better suit them.

The set for Scarlett's Revenge will remain standing until January at least. I have already heard from good sources that the plan for Scarlett's Revenge to return. However, perhaps next year they will be able to use that location. The first year is always the roughest, because they are still learning how the setup will work. They should be able to pack things away easier the second year.

There are many places they could put them. In the small theater in Ireland for example. If they took out the tables, they could totally place the penguins just about anywhere in the room and have lots of room for guests to stand (or sit to interact with them). Finally they would have tons of space to build out LARGE habitats for them.

Yep, Castle O'Sullivan isn't an option. The only place I can think of where it would really work well is Europe in the Air's queue. I think it's a near perfect location to be honest. That said, the challenge would be striking whatever HOS house is there in time to set it up.

That's even smaller than the backstage of RPT...

Yeah, but most of the RPT was filled with styrofoam walls and tacky, 90s-grocery-store-frozen-isle-style, fake penguins. The question is, how much room is actually needed. I suspect that with some clever positioning, it could work in EitA's queue and preshow areas.
