RE: Ice Palace: A Penguin Paradise (2009 to Present)

We wnt through this in 2009, the first year of CT. The line was SUPER long, but we stood and waited. We finally made it to the front and we walked in. We were suprised to see it covered with sparkles and penguin info. We finally came to the penguins room and there were two penguins in an enclosed space. We haven't gone in since. I know that they added a swimming tank for them, but is it worth going into?

If you get there right as Aquitaine opens, the line should be nonexistent. There's no chance it's worth more than a 10 minute wait though unless you have some strange love of penguins and you've never seen one in person before.

Thanks. :) I do have many strange loves...

I will say, if you have a young child who loves to see penguins, it's not a bad thing to wait to see. The inside was nicely decorated last year. Pro-Tip: Get a peppermint hot chocolate from a nearby shop to enjoy while waiting in line.

This is an interesting animal exhibit. It changes up almost every year so you get something the same but presented differently. It isn't some amazing and world astounding penguin exhibit, it's just a thing on the side to give you a glimpse at penguins and info about them.

Also the park has always had at least 6 or 8 penguins each year, they just rotate them in and out every so often.

I have to say that while I go through this exhibit every year, I always come away with an uncomfortable feeling about the whole thing. The penguins at BGT and of course Sea World just seem happier. I know they rotate the animals in and out, but it just seems too zoo-like to me.

RE: Ice Palace: A Penguin Paradise (2009 to Present)

The park already has already started work on this. The walls are already painted with blue glitter, and if you look up in Catacombs, through the man-hole covers, you might see some of the snowflakes and a few other small things. Once they strike the set for Catacombs, they only have to move in a few more things into place. The set for Catacombs is taken down, and put in two flatbed trucks, so it is taken down rather quickly. I still don't know if we can expect significant changes yet.

What are the chances that there were any salvageable decor from Penguin Encounter in SWO after it was gutted for Antarctica? That just popped in my head and I was wondering. I know the former structure in SWO was pretty lackluster, however I'm guessing they dismantled the actual tank rock work.

I love this idea! Give the penguins more room!

There is only but so much room. Honestly, with the huge water tank they have now, those penguins will be fine. Plus they get rotated out all the time. No big issue.

Very cool, I see they moved a lot of the Christmas trees that used to be in Aquitaine in there. Loved the display, and the penguins looked great in both the tank, and the display area. Hopefully I'll be able to get in there once this year.

How can you say those penguins have no space, Nic? These penguins seem to have plenty of room.

Why, they have so much room they can even go sledding! And the park was kind enough to provide hats and scarves for them so they don't get chilly standing there all day. And it has certainly paid off--these luxuries have given the penguin on the left the intellectual and physical ability to make blocks of ice!! Wow!! Keep up the good work, BGW!!

I went with a few other BGWfans peeps. To me, it was rather underwhelming. Dont get me wrong, it was nice and all, especially for the kids, but I guess I had very high expectations.
