RE: Hurler Closed for 2016

Here are a few closer shots. I noticed at least a dozen of these markings along Hurler's footers, although the survey marker coasterfan3 shared was nowhere to be found. Maybe the park moved it?

I'm sure you also meant to thank coasterfan3, who first discovered the markers. Of course, we all appreciate that Joe followed up with his great camera, but I don't know if any of us would have thought to look this weekend without coasterfan3's tipoff.

RE: Hurler Closed for 2016

Yes! I was so caught up in the excitement that I forgot to thank coasterfan3 for sharing. I certainly would not have ventured over to Hurler for the umpteenth time today had I not seen coasterfan3's photos. Thanks for sharing- great eye!

RE: Hurler Closed for 2016

Thanks to both of them. What I find interesting was that there wete only a few markers and with the exception of the now missing one by the exit they were all only on supports. I am hypothesising that maybe we are looking at a reinforcing simular to what Grizzly had done and that these could simply be identifing areas in need of replacement.

Actually, I thoroughly surveyed the site and I found orange marks on footers everywhere. It is also important to note that they're not on all of the footers, but what seems to be to be around 60% to 80% of them. Important thing though is that they seem to be distributed throughout the entire layout.

This could debunk the whole "inspection marker" theory. At least I hope so...if that much was marked or left unmarked for safety reasons thank God they closed the SOB down.

RE: Hurler Closed for 2016

If it had something to do with the structure I would have expected to see marks on the wood or crossbeams as well. The marks seem completely isolated to the footers. Maybe highlighting ones that could be reused?

RE: Hurler Closed for 2016

I forgot to mention this. The markings were far more concentrated on the "front" half of Hurler (the entire area roughly between the first drop and the turn past the station). There were relatively few markings on the back half near the extended queue and turnaround by Grizzly. I don't know what that means, but I thought it was interesting that the markings gravitated towards one half of the coaster.

Didn't want to post about this till it was confirmed or I saw it in person. I'm about 20 minutes away from the park and I'll keep an eye open..

KD Golden Years is usually rather honest when it comes to their posts. A bud of mine said some "stuff" has showed up at the graveyard recently. I'll try and make it to the park tomorrow and see what's up. Very unusual for a park to say an attraction is closing without actually saying it.
I saw the boneyard tonight. They're clearing and area with some kind of machine. There's also some big wood pallets or something back there aswell. Other than that I couldn't see much because it was pretty dark. Also are you aloud back there? We were passed by a security housed and he didn't seem to care. Just wondering for future reference..

RE: Hurler Closed for 2016

Just found it after awhile of looking. It's right next to the Eiffel Tower along with Wayne's world. I could see them just loosing the name and letting rmc do their magic. Why would you have marked footers for a retrack? Does anybody know if they marked footers at caro when they retracked parts?

RE: Hurler Closed for 2016

HOLY SHIT. It's happening.

By the way, I would argue that an RMC steel coaster that uses Hurler's skeleton is a totally different attraction from Hurler. They would certainly market it as a new, not renovated, ride, if RMC is indeed coming to Doswell.

RE: Hurler Closed for 2016

Joe, I don't disagree. I just meant to caution people against assuming Hurler will go the way of Shockwave, because of the tombstone. There are a variety of possible outcomes still on the table.
