In my experience, and I grant you this is with the military, the most competent and effective force protection was also the most gentle. That is the first thing. Second more is not necessarily better, sometimes it is just more. Further just because a person is qualified to poke a purse does not mean they are particularly qualified to protect anyone.

Oh, and incidentally I am a very nice guy. I am kind and quite giving. I have never had my ass kicked by anyone. I have had to stand up for myself.

Nice =/= weak

What if somebody does get hurt at the park? The media would go nuts.

"Theme Park Patron Injured After Busch Gardens Shrinks Security Force."

Regardless of their actual effectiveness, they sort of act as a "security blanket" for patrons and even staff. Reducing security is, in my opinion, absurd.

When dealing with any type of police, I've always encountered mostly friendly people. So I do believe you can be nice and effective. More people concentrated in one area isn't that productive. If they are spread out much more, it becomes a little more effective, but then again what do they actually do?

However, they are certified by the Virginia's Department of Criminal Justice and a lot of people in security anywhere have had work background in areas like the military and police.

Once again, I am not advocating an expansion or reduction of the force. I am observing a systemic problem in the existing ranks.

Please stop arguing with something I didn't say.

Nicole, my response was directed at Zimmy's post, not yours. I could be wrong, but I believe PR's was as well.

According to Nic, there is an issue in the higher ranks with bullies. Hiring new people will not correct anything if these are the guys setting the standard and doing training.

Edit...Sounds like you'd set a great example for the BGW security team Zimmy! ;)

Best example I ever saw of BGW Security going crazy over the top was when they kicked out the founder of BGEscape years ago.

That was actually a thing?

While were on the topic of security ... When the old Festhaus Stage was in place and I think Fiends were there, there was or so I think a drunk guy trying to get on stage and when he did a group of security came up on stage and all of the cast on stage never stopped for nothing. Does anyone remember something Iike that...? And I understand that was off topic.

Busch gardens sure is getting a late start on Howl O Scream.... September 25??!!?? EEEWWWWWW but we get until November 1st to enjoy it but still EWWWWWWW

It looks like they've done a bunch of weird stuff to the calendar. Summer weekday 9pm closings? Saturday and Sunday only for the weekends leading up to HOS? And in October, FRIDAYS and Saturdays open to 11? This will be an odd year.

The silver lining is that pushing the event back will give the park more time to transition San Marco from tar Spangled Nights to Howl-O-Scream. On second thought, it's almost as if they pushed HOS back so Star Spangled Nights could be extended...

That's really nothing to worry about. The park has transformed entire hamlets in a matter of 1 or 2 days. The later start this year has to do mostly with Labor Day occurring a week later than usual, and budget cuts.

Try to keep focused on the what is important. SSN is going to be extended! We all know that is the most important event of the year! More importantly we will have less time to look at the horrible unchanged look of BGW.
