Happy birthday, Maz! Hope it was good!
I went Friday and Saturday and as has been mentioned the rain was a nuisance for most of the day Friday until becoming simply miserable by the end of the night. We ended up leaving somewhat early because of it. Lumberhack and Cornered being closed due to flooding/mud was what finally convinced us the night was over.
Saturday on the other hand was wonderful. The park was packed and everyone seemed to have their Halloween spirit on. Lumberhack (which I thought was lame when I went through it last year) was thrilling. There were SO many actors and they were positioned perfectly. Running from one sent me right into the face of another. They paced the line in groups so that the maze wasn't congested and the actors really took the time scare everyone. I was HIGHLY impressed with their dedication and effort. Excellent house. And the same goes for Frostbite which was the first house we did. We got there at the perfect time (they opened a bit early) and we only had to wait about twenty or thirty minutes before going in. The actors were on point and the scenery was great. It was great walking through DarKastle and seeing some of the props up close, like the tree faces. I've always loved those.
Also, like lazerdoc said, what what WHAT is going on with the food? The pizza is terrible (and yes, I too remember it being really good previously) but also the mozzarella sticks! They're disgusting now! Thankfully the chicken parm is still decent. The orange chicken however was also atrocious.
Later we went to Unearthed which was good. Maybe not *as* good as Lumberhack or Frostbite but still very good and an interesting story. The last one we did was Deadline which was wholly irritating and not at all fun. There's only so much "stuff" I'll duck under and move to the side as I make my way through a maze. It got old fast and by the time I (finally) saw a scare actor who just stood there glaring menacingly I was like "Not today, Satan. I'm in no mood." I was so ready to leave about halfway through. And what exactly is the theme there? Is it a haunted subway car or something? Zombie apocalypse?
Anyways.
So we're walking across the bridge going back to the Pompeii area (missing the troll btw - why wasn't it put out? Is it on loan or something? Do they rent it and this year the park just didn't spring for it?). And so I'm crossing the bridge when suddenly I hear a blood-curdling scream from the bushes. I assume it's a recording but it sounded real. Then white lights start blinking on the rails and more screaming and some electrical noises and I'm like "aw, this is nice" but then the people under the bridge banging the boards! It was really cool and very unexpected.
Monster Stomp was absolutely wonderful. The way they use the stage and the lighting is excellent. The performers were all great and the songs and the show and the choreography was all perfect. I couldn't help but sit there and wonder why the park can't make a show half as good as this during the regular season. The knife stuff was a highlight, as was the guy who pouts and all that. The skeletons were awesome... loved the whole thing. It ended too soon, honestly.
Fiends was good as always. I didn't see any of the nurses outside though save for the ones working the bar in Castle O'Sullivan.
With all that was going on I was extremely impressed with the whole event this year. I didn't notice any lack of decorations except for the missing troll but of course the more décor the better. I loved the people who would spring down onto the pathways, and of course one can never have too much fog. Well maybe one can, but fog is always appreciated. I really needed another day or two to actually get to do everything. Between the shows and the houses, drinking and walking from place to place I still didn't hit any of the rides at all and only did four houses. So all in all I'd say this was a very good weekend. The terrortories had lots of characters walking around (I've actually never seen Jack the Ripper until this year - and I LOVE the headless Victorian woman) and lots of actors hiding and scaring people outside of houses.
So, well done Busch. Thanks for a great time!
Edit: I previously was wanting to know what airbrush machines the park uses for face painting. Now that I've been to the park myself to find out I can officially report that the answer is: I still don't know. Why? Because this year they're not using machines and are instead doing it by hand. When asked, the employee told me that the workers weren't taking care of the machines and they kept breaking so the park just stopped using them. So there you are.
