what is it about Deadline that attracts rude, drunk guests

It's blowholes like these who give us drunks a bad name. I'm sorry for your experience. We're not all like this I swear! I enjoy keeping my drunkery to myself.

It was my first time attending this weekend and thoroughly enjoyed the event. The only thing I didn't like was how the people trashed the place. I have never seen the park that trashed. To see the desk in the Verbolten que completely covered with cups and trash hurt muy soul. And it wasn't just drunks acting stupid. Saw a teen last night take the hat off a scare actor in ripper row. Hope he was ejected. Didnt see how it ended. Loved the event and Wil certainly be back next year.

Wow, I'm so far behind, but I guess being away at college will do that to you. I'll be home for fall break this weekend and I didn't even know Bitten was gone! What have people thought of the thursday night change so far?

I wonder what kind of cricket desserts they have in Ireland. I might want to try them. BGT has tacos now with two or three large grasshoppers on top.

If anyone is looking for costume ideas from the park, check out Zagone Studios, they are on Amazon.

The park has used them for a bunch of costumes, most notably the:

Men's Death Mask (used in Catacombs for a skeleton mask)
Men's Goat Boy (used in Unearthed for one of Scarlet's half goat/man)
Men's Ravenous Mask (used in Scavengers *2011 for a Raven's head)
Men's Skeleton Gloves (used in Catacombs)
Men's Moonshined (used in Unleashed and Monster Stomp Revamped)
Men's Grey Beast Legs (used in Unearthed for half goat/man)
Men's Night Crawler (used in Monster Stomp Revamped)

They also used Rubie's for the large creature costumes in Ireland, which each of those is on Amazon for $140.

exactly. I myself like to get a few brews and walk around the park slamming them, then I sneak in mini bottles of whiskey and sip on them in the maze. i guarantee my BAC is at least double what all of these belligerent guests have going on. amateurs, I swear

Friday Takeaways

Quick take aways:

Crowd : moderate to light
Waited max 20 min for a ride/maze - Invadr

Weather: Rain the whole day and night -mostly mist but picked up as the night went on

Notes: terrortories we’re mostly not being operated due to rain : aside from axe alley and vampire point. Demon street was going at first but then stopped
Actors from sideshow square were scaring the line at circo sinestro
All fog machines were turned off I’m assuming due to rain
Axe alley staff has metal ends added to sticks - more loud noises and was working to scare folks

Will not rate terrortories because of rain

Shows: thought everyone was great!
Monster stomp 9/10
Fiends 9/10
Night beats - 8/10

Best maze: frostbite - 9.5/10 simply was above everyone else the whole night ! Staff was wonderful and actors were endless! They were really feeding into the crowd and were getting everyone walking through ! Fantastic addition and worked very well . Seems like they have really stepped up their game !

Quick take away :
Disclosure: lumberhack was closed because of rain
Cornered was evacuated prior to us going through - couldn’t figure out the situation and was also very flooded in the middle of maze

Circo was 2nd best - 8/10 lots of actors, especially because of sideshow square staff inside maze line and in maze areas

Scarlett’s 7/10- pretty decently staffed and was fun

Deadline 6/10 - it was ok! Rain causes the power to go out during the maze and got pitch black. The music kept playing and actors kept scaring!

Lumberhack - closed

Worst maze - catacombs 1/10
Most actors just standing in paths - not even saying a word - it was honestly one of the worst maze experiences that we’ve had at the park and this was towards the beginning of the night. Staff needs new direction here

Cornered even performed much above this maze even when it was later on after the rain picked up !
Overall event 6.5/10. Could use a lot of improvement although the weather may have take a toll on the event especially because of no fog.

You weren't evacuated from Deadline?

Nope ! I’m not sure if they realized it ! Some effects were still working along with the music ! But there was a noticeable darkness difference as some areas were pitch black with dim lights given off my exit lights and other various things still working ! Workers seemed to be very confused as to what was going on

Also : lights at various parts of the park were out due to rain affecting the electrical wirings : for example, on the festa bridge half of the strung lights were out

We traveled up from Raleigh this weekend in spite of the wishy-washy weather forecast. Probably should have stayed home, but it was a good opportunity for us to go.

We managed to make it through all of the houses Friday night except for Lumberhack, they closed it before we got over there. Deadline was closed on our first attempt, but was open later. Almost everything seemed a bit ho-hum, but honestly the weather was dreary and definitely had an impact. The one winner on Friday night was the 10:30 showing of Fiends. It saved the night for us, lots of energy and the crowd was stacked with performers from the other shows that really pumped the room.

We went back on Saturday and caught Monster Stomp, it was great. I still liked the original version in the old Canadian Palladium the most, but we really enjoyed this years version.

One question, what in the world happened to the pizza in the Festhaus? When my kids were little that was the best buy in the park. It was good back then and reasonably priced. We bought two of them to eat while watching the show in there and wound up throwing them both away. They should be ashamed to serve whatever that crap is now.

We visited today for a birthday fun day, and I was shocked how few people were there. Granted, we left at 5:00, it still seemed strangely empty. I did plenty of 'looking around' at decorations, and I must be honest, it seemed minimal. We didn't stay for Howl-O-scream, but the show in Festhaus was convincing enough to just head home. InvadR was a ten minute wait, and Nessie was badass as usual!

Happy birthday, Maz! Hope it was good!

I went Friday and Saturday and as has been mentioned the rain was a nuisance for most of the day Friday until becoming simply miserable by the end of the night. We ended up leaving somewhat early because of it. Lumberhack and Cornered being closed due to flooding/mud was what finally convinced us the night was over.

Saturday on the other hand was wonderful. The park was packed and everyone seemed to have their Halloween spirit on. Lumberhack (which I thought was lame when I went through it last year) was thrilling. There were SO many actors and they were positioned perfectly. Running from one sent me right into the face of another. They paced the line in groups so that the maze wasn't congested and the actors really took the time scare everyone. I was HIGHLY impressed with their dedication and effort. Excellent house. And the same goes for Frostbite which was the first house we did. We got there at the perfect time (they opened a bit early) and we only had to wait about twenty or thirty minutes before going in. The actors were on point and the scenery was great. It was great walking through DarKastle and seeing some of the props up close, like the tree faces. I've always loved those.

Also, like lazerdoc said, what what WHAT is going on with the food? The pizza is terrible (and yes, I too remember it being really good previously) but also the mozzarella sticks! They're disgusting now! Thankfully the chicken parm is still decent. The orange chicken however was also atrocious.

Later we went to Unearthed which was good. Maybe not *as* good as Lumberhack or Frostbite but still very good and an interesting story. The last one we did was Deadline which was wholly irritating and not at all fun. There's only so much "stuff" I'll duck under and move to the side as I make my way through a maze. It got old fast and by the time I (finally) saw a scare actor who just stood there glaring menacingly I was like "Not today, Satan. I'm in no mood." I was so ready to leave about halfway through. And what exactly is the theme there? Is it a haunted subway car or something? Zombie apocalypse?

Anyways.

So we're walking across the bridge going back to the Pompeii area (missing the troll btw - why wasn't it put out? Is it on loan or something? Do they rent it and this year the park just didn't spring for it?). And so I'm crossing the bridge when suddenly I hear a blood-curdling scream from the bushes. I assume it's a recording but it sounded real. Then white lights start blinking on the rails and more screaming and some electrical noises and I'm like "aw, this is nice" but then the people under the bridge banging the boards! It was really cool and very unexpected.

Monster Stomp was absolutely wonderful. The way they use the stage and the lighting is excellent. The performers were all great and the songs and the show and the choreography was all perfect. I couldn't help but sit there and wonder why the park can't make a show half as good as this during the regular season. The knife stuff was a highlight, as was the guy who pouts and all that. The skeletons were awesome... loved the whole thing. It ended too soon, honestly.

Fiends was good as always. I didn't see any of the nurses outside though save for the ones working the bar in Castle O'Sullivan.

With all that was going on I was extremely impressed with the whole event this year. I didn't notice any lack of decorations except for the missing troll but of course the more décor the better. I loved the people who would spring down onto the pathways, and of course one can never have too much fog. Well maybe one can, but fog is always appreciated. I really needed another day or two to actually get to do everything. Between the shows and the houses, drinking and walking from place to place I still didn't hit any of the rides at all and only did four houses. So all in all I'd say this was a very good weekend. The terrortories had lots of characters walking around (I've actually never seen Jack the Ripper until this year - and I LOVE the headless Victorian woman) and lots of actors hiding and scaring people outside of houses.

So, well done Busch. Thanks for a great time!

Edit: I previously was wanting to know what airbrush machines the park uses for face painting. Now that I've been to the park myself to find out I can officially report that the answer is: I still don't know. Why? Because this year they're not using machines and are instead doing it by hand. When asked, the employee told me that the workers weren't taking care of the machines and they kept breaking so the park just stopped using them. So there you are.

Oops! I meant to tell you last week that we actually walked up to all of the face painters and only saw them doing the make-up by hand.

I also checked at KD this weekend on the behind the scenes makeup tour. They are using a really complex, centralized airbrush system backstage.

Great report, BTW. I'm glad I'm not the only one who loved Lumberhack this year.

In answer to your rhetorical question, Deadline, as I understand it, is set in a subway that has been taken by zombies. I think in Italy? Most nights it seems to be subway that has been destroyed (maybe by zombies?) and is now completely uninhabited.

Oh how sweet of you to check on the machines! Thank you, I really appreciate that!

And I can see how others would like Deadline but after Lumberhack and Frostbite's performance maybe it just didn't compare well. I wish I could go for another weekend, I had SUCH a great time!
