RE: Howl-O-Scream 2017

In the Livestream it was stated that the Guardian of the Castle has since passed on and that now all the creatures that haunt the region are able to roam amongst the Castle Grounds. So I expect that we will see the return of the werewolves and while a bit of a stretch maybe we will find out what caused the disappearence of the sleigh guests from the story. Another possible creature to appear in the house is the Alpengeist, since both the legend and the castle are in Bavaria which is situated in the German alps.

There are several possible directions the creators could take with this house but having said that This is the most interested and excited I've been for a maze so keep it going Busch !

I find it so ironic that the one ride in the park with an eerie premise has low ridership during the park's Halloween event. Seems odd but I believe ya'll. Hoping to get back up to VA for this.

Allegedly, the story of the house that was originally intended to be based off of Curse of DarKastle was going to be about the disappearance of Ludwig's party guests.

My best question is....what will they do with the track in the center that posts an obvious and total trip hazard? Hmmmm....will there be a 'separating wall' placed over it for two different sides to the maze? Or will they have just a short type cemetery fence placed over it?

Edit: or remove it all together?

This was my first question as well. Scared, startled people tend to make sudden movements without paying attention to where they're going. Couple that with a track in the middle of the path would be a recipe for disaster. I'm sure the park has thought about this and has something planned, but I'm interested in knowing their plan as well. I'd imagine removing the entire track would be way too time-consuming and a lot of effort. Personally, I think they'd use a wall like you said and have two separate sides. Either have the guests walk down one side, loop around at the end, and use the other side as the second half of the maze, or have just have two sides to send people through.

I think it's interesting how he mentioned throwing people off balance. I know that he may not mean it literally, but based on the projections you see on the ride, it's kind of interesting. During construction, people didn't view the projections without a railing or ride vehicle. In some scenes people instinctively move forward with the movement on their own. It will be interesting to see what they do with scenic pieces such as the sideways towers. Many people have no idea that they are looking straight forward as usual. Heck, most people have no idea that the ride is flat. They could end up giving away too many illusions to the masses if they don't plan it out.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2017

I'm so super excited for this. Half of me doesn't even care if the maze turns out bad because I'll be getting to walk through DarKastle! I am wondering what kind of monsters will be in this maze. They said something about biting obviously and teeth, so perhaps vampires will still play a role in this maze? Then again since it's DarKastle there is a lot of wolf imagery throughout the ride so there could be wolves or werewolves involved.

I posted this earlier on what my thoughts were for potential monsters in the new maze but since it seems to be ingored for some reason I'll posted again in reference to above comments.

Very cool idea, buuuuuuuuut...

People tend to be destructive during HoS.  I hope there won't be much destruction to the main DK ride.

As I recall from the tour, most of the scenery was fairly robust.  It is not like much of the HOS stuff, made to be taken down in short order.  Also it is cavernous inside. Further is it worth noting, walls could be built where the tracks are, and hallways might still be almost too wide. In fact, if they did not partition the path, it seems that the maze would not work at all.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2017

Those are very intriguing ideas, Hessian. I think finding out more of the backstory of DarKastle and/or having a crossover with Alpengeist would be worth visiting the house in and of itself, just to learn more about these canon characters.

As someone who has long since stopped wearing glasses on the ride I tend to look at the surrounding scenery anyway because it's so well-done (keep an eye out for the gargoyle flashing his junk at passengers). So I'm completely satisfied just being able to go through the ride and take a closer look at things I can only glimpse in passing. Very good move, Busch. Very good.

With the ride closed for Howl-o-Scream, could annual maintenance be done during that time for the ride to be open during Christmas Town?

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2017

I honestly love the theme of the new maze. I can't point to what exactly the "deceased ice warlock in an ice fortress" story reminds me of, but it's a theme I've never heard of for a haunt event before, and I can see it fitting perfectly with DarKastle's scenery.

I don't know... the idea of a frozen ice castle inhabited by evil, enchanted creatures sounds so deliciously eerie. It strikes me as a theme that's a total departure from any theme HOS has attempted before, but at the same time it seems to perfectly capture the creepiness the event should have. Plus, since much of the set can be derived from DarKastle's pre-existing architecture, I have a feeling the park has a good chance of successfully pulling this off.

Plus, since DarKastle will be closed for an additional two months or so now, maybe the vehicles will get some extra maintenance done on them? That would be another bonus to this maze.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2017

The park released this description which makes me feel like a house will not be returning in the Drachen Fire station, but I would rather see this mega house have the proper staffing instead of a house lacking actors.

The fire-breathing giant that once guarded the enchanted dark castle has met his chilling demise. He once stalked the premises, providing the warm lifeblood for the stronghold, but now his bones are mere decoration in a macabre icy grave. Frostbite now consumes all those trapped within. Those who dare to walk through this fortress are exposed to a harrowing array of chilling elements, from a fog-shrouded graveyard to a creepy cavern filled with frigid creatures. The cold is not the only bone-chilling resident of the castle, however. For the ice has teeth … And this frost … Bites.

FrostBite is a walk-through haunted house located in the Curse of DarKastle building, across from Blood Haus in Oktoberfest. The haunted house will be located inside the building, but will not use the ride vehicles or current video/theming elements. The theme of FrostBite is completely different than the theme of Curse of DarKastle. If you're looking for another haunted house nearby, Lumberhack ™ can be found near Das Festhaus and the Black Forest picnic village.

I'm very interested to see how they'll use the screen as in all there's nine screens used in the attraction giving them a lot of opportunity to make some great scenes. Also, I feel like they'll only want to use one side of the track as many of the scenes of you looked behind you would just see black unthemed walls with projectors.

Beyond excited for this attraction with the endless opportunities to make this one of largest and best attractions in HOS history.
