You know...while I have some issues with HOS, I did enjoy it last year. It is a very different experience from Haunt and even from HOS from a few years ago. That doesn't make it bad or boring. I understand that many of you want a pure haunt, like Universal or KD, but Halloween is just as much about parties as it is about houses.

Please allow those of us who don't hate it to enjoy ourselves without constant derision.

Thank you SO much for this. Yeah, I've had my issues with the event, but I have been enjoying HOS for over 12 years now. I recount things over and over while I'm in the park each year: the train, Curse of Pompeii (my 1st haunted house), the original Monster Stomp (yes, in the now gone Canadian Palladium) the list goes on.

HOS has it's flaws, but where would we be without it?!

PK: Totally agree.

As I said, I had issues with HOS last year. I anticipate having objections this year, as well. Everyone has a right to articulate their concerns. I just don't like the constant snide, sneering, and snarky comments that don't contribute anything useful to conversation, and I especially object to being made to feel foolish for enjoying myself. I am allowed to "have fun." There is nothing wrong with that at a bloody theme park, and it shouldn't be a punch line.

My post was not an attempt to belittle those who have fun. It was made in the style of real responses that have been made in the past to critisims of the park. Was it a bit snarky? Sure, but that's about it. In fact that goes for most of the posts along those lines (I can't speak for others). If somebody responds with a critisims with such disrespect as, "what you're saying doesn't matter, just have fun", then I'm going to be snarky about that.

That's also not to say that if you have critisims, you don't have fun either...

Although I am still against the "party" atmosphere taking up the majority of the event, I can see how the argument could go both ways. Especially with KD already having a hardcore scare event, it does make sense to do something different to take advantage of the market as much as possible. Is a giant Halloween party the way to do it? I don't know, but it does make sense that the park wants to do something different.

Doing something different isn't always better. It seems like their attendance during HOS has been declining. I don't recall as many people being there last year as in recent years, nor seeing as many "closed due to capacity" tweets/statuses. I feel people are getting fed up with the event receiving a load of hype, to only be the same event year after year. Maybe BG should try KD's strategy

Personally, I think they need to decide which they want to do and focus on that.  The mishmash of haunt and party with no children's event is a problem.  If the want to do a party event, they need to market it that way, and stop talking about all of the "scares."  If they want to focus on houses, they need to kill the bars and dance parties.

Honestly, I don't care which they do, as long as they create a focused, well-marketed event. And of course, it would be nice if they would figure out how they want to entertain the kids. Watching Mommy and Daddy drink with pirates can't be all that entertaining for a 6 year old...

This exactly. The event is an enormous mish-mosh of ideas, from "party" to "scary" to "normal park at night with creepy music" that totally kills the whole flow. I'm not going to say I will be happier if they just go full-out "party," but at least that would make more sense... at least from a marketing standpoint.

I think the biggest question is which type of event brings in the most people.

I will say that a huge Halloween costume party is a lot of fun. They used to close down "M" St in Georgetown on Halloween and it was amazing, and more importantly a very popular event....for adults.

They want family business + booze sales. You cannot strive for both fully in this area. It is haunt or family friendly. Family friendly just doesn't have the coin in it that haunts do, especially with the alcy upcharge.
