There's also a HUGE DIFFERENCE between things that are mass produced for audiences (nationally and globally), versus something at a private theme park, located in a heavily military area.

There are more military style, first person shooters than COD. That doesn't make them any less of a military-based first person shooter. I wasn't trying to go around any example. Your examples can not be compared to this. They all have to jump through their own individual hoops to get produced.

Also, basing my opinion on something I find generic, is not outrageous. As it is of course, my opinion. And, I'm probably not the only one who feels that it's plain and generic.

There is also a huge difference between something you take the role of an armed soldier fighting off Nazi Zombies and something where you take the role of an unarmed civilian in an area where the military is out to scare/attack you (These games aren't made very often because they're considered distasteful and not very fun).

Those who see problems with this do so because last year showed us exactly how sensitive people can be about these things and if the events of last years didn't happen, not as many people would be concerned about this. It's also good to raise these concerns early so the park is aware of these issues to avoid controversy before it happens. If PETA found out about this, we all know that they're not above crappy tactics to smear the company even more.

Thank you! Yes!

I am generally NOT quick to form opinions about the park's events, and I certainly do not get offended all that easily, while we are engaged in operations overseas, and our troops are still being killed by the Taliban, I think it is in incredibly poor taste to portray them as akin to criminals and monsters.

After the symbols used in Star Spangled Nights, I will not give the park the benefit of doubt. I fully expect the scare actors to look like US soldiers. Hopefully, I am wrong.

Personally, I'm not offended by the theme (yet) because I'm thinking they'll probably do something like blacked-out mercenary soldiers who scare you by acting like they're trying to fight the wendigo. Kinda reminds me of WidowMakers a few years back when they said the lumberjacks were fighting spiders, but in the dark, they can't tell you apart. Still, I'd like to understand from the people against it, Is it frustrating you that it'll be military at all or because it might emulate US troops?

It's a concern that they might portray military types as monsters, which is a huge no-no in this area. Kind of like last year, people were upset at KD that they portray dead miners as monsters. There is a way to pull off of to have some sort of military unit in an appropriate way, we just are concerned after some of the park's recent decisions

My friend has family who work in southwestern Virginia's coal mines to this day. He told me that when some of his relatives saw that at KD, they got really mad.  I can understand that, definitely. I can't really comment on the house, seeing as I've never been to a KD Halloween event, but I can say that nowadays it seems very hard not to step on anybody's toes, especially thanks to our great nation's diversity but hopefully, they have enough social tact not to portray men in uniform as monsters. I think a less contemporary theme would fit the area better. I get that terror-tories are complete thematic overlays, but why try to fight the natural atmosphere of the area? Use old frontier tents and men with muskets. Old-timey military men are associated with superstition, and it's less, if not at all, of a personal affront to the people who might be offended. Why blow so much of a failing budget to overlay expensive equipment (that we'd probably see year after year because of cost, and getting its worth out of it), when you could easily make it seem like a dances-with-wolves type army camp?

So I understand people getting upset about being portrayed in such ways at these events (and I still think this military thing is a terrible idea) but.....

Have we forgotten about the clowns (actual clowns, not people like Pretzel :p)? Surely they don't like being portrayed as monsters...

So are lumberjacks, pirates, dentists, funeral parlor directors, zombies and skeletons (formerly), and i think at one point vampires were. Let's shut down the entire park except for demon street. WOOHOO HOTWHEELS PARTY.

And pirates too! And, demons were once people... guess there goes HowloScream!
Dude, gotta know that religious history! Demons are fallen angels, so we good. I will defend my hotwheels party til death.

Don't forget, the definition of a terror-tory is to completely change the theme of the hamlet to something completely different through extensive theming.

No one's saying that you can't do anything that MIGHT offend people. It's just a good idea to stay away from really hot-button issues and issues that are likely to upset a large chunk of your target demographic. It doesn't make good business sense to piss off soldiers when the park is KNOWN as military-friendly. Yes, a lot of clowns don't like the horror thing. But it's not been a big deal like the KD miner fiasco because no park serves a particularly clown-heavy population. Instead, clowns just tend to not go to horror events that feature clowns. Very different from setting up a maze about a mining accident in mining country... I'm not yet convinced the wendigo theme will be offensive, but let's not get on the "People are too PC, now we can't do ANYTHING!" slippery slope joke. It's tired and untrue.

True, PR, but if you can't afford extensive theming, then the concept doesn't work and the terror-tory looks like a piece of crap. Right now, I think it would be best for the park to create a terror-tory that fits the rustic feel of New France.

Look at Vampire Point and Ports of Skull for references to what it looks like without budget.

It can be done, you just have to see it in the dark with lots of fog and some lighting instead of just hearing a small tidbit of a concept.
