I'm kind of 50-50 on this whole deal. On one side I feel like having the public tell you want they want is a sure-fire way to at least give them something they like, but on the other hand I feel like any proper business should know what to give their guests without needing their hand held. See Disney, Universal, etc. Those parks know how to please a crowd and don't need to be told how to do it.

I honestly think Zachary, PK, and Nicole are all right in their own sense.

There was a witch-themed scarezone called Spellbound as well back in 2009.

Edit: Joe beat me to it. But I said more. :p

Why not let the fans vote the next vote and houses,? They would be cool

Because the GP have no idea what they want. It's the park's job to know what the GP will like, not the GP's job to tell them. Needless to say, I have a massive problem with the pointless (and, quite frankly, reckless) democratization of important park decisions that has been going on as of late (see: Food & Wine).

I remember seeing Cursed and Spellbound mentioned online but didn't know what they were about.

If the GP gets to decide on HOS houses, I would imagine alot of the parents would want a family friendly "Jack" house.

Pass holders also voted for Verbolten's name. But considering just how horrible the other options like "Black Forest Turbo" or "Revenge of the Black Forest" were I am surprised they couldn't figure out what the best name was on their own.

Actually, they were told there would be non-European themed booths and ask to pick from a list of about six.  That isn't the same thing as the park guests asking for American booths.

Yes. Indian, for instance.

But don't blame the guests for what was initially the park's bad idea.

In fact, I would argue that this supports my point: BGW shouldn't be allowed to make any more decisions on their own. See also Porno Nights.

If anything, the park puts up voting even though they already have the house that they want. Have people vote for "Fun"

I was thinking Vegetarian, but I digress..

San 'Murica seemed like it was a decision that was designed to be pandering to the locals, so I think it would have been voted for regardless. I think that if a theme was voted on, they need to be careful about the options they offer so the quality isn't determined by the outcome.

I really think with these voting things, the park already has all the ideas in mind and is just deciding which one. So I imagine that totally off-the-walls houses would never even be choices, unless the house-proposing-committee was doing a really bad job that year. As it stands, the park seems to have no idea which direction they want to take HoS in; a little GP input might be a good thing. Or, even better, pass holder input.

Reminder: the park's HAD family-friendly houses in the past, and those actually seemed to work pretty well. They just didn't have actors in the Pompeii maze during the day so that kids could "join" HoS early and then leave before the actual event started. Another example of how the park used to understand the kid/adult Halloween divide better and still manage to cater to both side separately.

I'm sure this is totally out of line, but what IF they just... I dont know... went back to their roots instead? Why exactly do they feel the need to try and reinvent the wheel (with walmart supplies) instead of sticking with and improving what has proven to work over the last 10+ years?

Also, the park is trying to cater to the GP, but failing to do so. But no, they shouldn't let the GP decide. I (and many others) don't go to the park for a stereotypical 21st century experience. I go to the park to experience something that can ONLY be found at BGW (and one could argue Williamsburg as a whole).

Another question would be; Is this being done for their personal taste or for the public? Entertainment has too much money to play with (at the start of the year). They just don't know how to spend it. Other parks, even within this chain, would do anything to get BGW's resources. I just don't believe that they understand what people want. Unfortunately, that won't likely change unless they change. However, I still think they have a good grasp on shows. They still have a few people left that can take a show seriously. Those people tend to have more weight to their opinions when it comes to Howl-O-Scream, due to its darker nature. I just want them pull through with this one.

If they have no new houses, they better be ready to wow us with something special.

With Props like this being manufactured it disturbs me that parks can't find a way to do scarzones with spiders n such...

Now I don't have arachnophobia ( I kill spiders with my bare hands unless its like a tarantula or something) but that would still freak me out.
