You guys are looking at this whole thing the wrong way. From now on, children will man the houses after 6pm. Apparently, this scares the $h1utz out of some of you. Your worst fears recognized. New house name...Kiddies After Dark! Muahahahahahah!!

We can call it "Howl-O-Kiddy"

Last year, I was at home watching the ROAE webcam. Somebody brought a stroller in there. smh. Who brings a stroller into a haunted house?

That makes me chuckle (and facepalm). Do they let people do that?

If their wheelchair can go in, my triple back seat, double front seat, extra wide spacious baby holder stroller 3000 can go in!

The difference being, they can push their own wheelchair

I was pointing out that no matter how you slice it, parents will complain why their stroller can't go in when a wheelchair can. Obviously they would want to reject strollers because it is not kid friendly, but they have a hard time telling parents no when it come to that.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013: Fear Has a Way of Spreading

I remember going through 13 last year with my husband and we had a huge gap between us and the group in front of us. But, the group in front of us had an older man in a wheelchair and when they hit the room with fear of heights he freaked and wouldn't let them push his wheelchair through the room. He didn't trust that it was just a mirror. :p
Needless to say that was where we had a huge issue of groups lumping up together and missing scares through the rest of the house. :-/

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013: Fear Has a Way of Spreading

I've never found the fear of heights room scary. And it's not because I'm not afraid of heights. But it's fairly obvious that it's a mirror? Maybe when I went in it was more lit up. I don't know. But it's really obvious that it's a mirror.

And that's generally where the backup is at. Once that group hits the fear of heights, it's like the scene from A Bug's Life, when the leaf falls and cuts off the ant line, and the one ant shouts "I'M LOST." The concept is just so foreign to them to walk across that 'plank' in the center...

They should really move that room to be the first room of the house.

I know perfectly well that it is a mirror. It still freaks me out. Can't explain it.

So, I speed up and get across the plank as quickly as I can. It is like passing a truck on the interstate, or driving through the HRBT. If it scares you, why would you slow down?

<Mumbles to self about not understanding other people, especially those idiots in the tunnel.>

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013: Fear Has a Way of Spreading

I kinda equate it to the effect of the spinning cylinder room that has a bridge through it, like the one from distorted dementia a few years back. Even though you're not moving at all, you get really dizzy. It tricks your inner ear and makes you wobbly. Same goes for the hights, it tricks your peripherals and your depth perception i guess.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013: Fear Has a Way of Spreading

That's the point is to freak you out. So if it does, it works. lol

I just don't understand why people stop to get across. It's a stationary thing, it's not going to move out of your way, you have to just walk as quickly as possible and just move on.

(I don't want to seem uncaring, because I totally understand paralyzing fear. But in situations like this it's just better to rip the band-aid off as quickly as possible, so to speak.)

I've just walked around people (I know they didnt want me stepping on the mirror.... Oops!):p

Blame it on the mirror not being cleaned regularly and/or reusing one that is worn from thousands walking on it the previous year.

That would be a good idea for a scare zone, really tall people in some sort of costume, make up etc whose size alone is intimidating then add in a scare factor. CK, DaTrueBGWFan you in? Myself 6'3" 220 lbs would qualify I would think. My height and size seems to keep drunk college kids in line at my night job at Sheetz, oh the stories I could tell about that place.

So I love Halloween, my wife not so much. Any advise based on the setups that anyone has seen so far as to a "safe zone" where she could chill if I go check out the the new Terror-tories on a quick scouting run to check them out. We are planning on coming on Pass Member weekend partly to accomplish this. But I am trying to convince her to stay into the evening for HOS. She likes the Halloween decor and atmosphere but once she gets a scare from A chainsaw guy or a lurker popping out from somewhere shes usually had enough. I respect that and don't want her to get freaked out to bad. In case we don't make it Pass Member Weekend any advice is appreciated and welcomed.

The skyride and train are safe transport methods (even if the former can be a bit inconsistent with operational days, and can get crowded). Also, the park has many "back paths" that I use that are fairly unfrequented. Examples are like the cutthrough by Pigs in a Kilt, the little eating area behind Aquila the golden eagle, and the path behind the aviary. Just look for stuff like that.

And can anyone tell me why Busch isn't playing BIG on the fact that their first day open for HoS is a Friday the 13th?

Isn't Friday the 13th copywrite?

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013: Fear Has a Way of Spreading

The actual day Friday the 13th is not one persons, group, or companies idea to be protected. It is a superstition that is commonly shared by everyone.

Now the movie, Friday the 13th, or something to that sort is copyrighted and any reference to the movie itself can be cause for lawsuit, but reference to the superstition of the day is not any cause for concern.
