RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013

I went to WDW in 2006 and the amount of rude people had me developing a park patrol system.

Basically, the park security would have UPC scanners, and if you got caught doing some mischief, you'd get your ticket scanned. If you got caught doing it again, and they saw that you'd already been told to stop goofing off, you'd be kicked out of the park.

I know it sounds like Judge Dredd, but seriously, nothing ruins a good day for normal people like a rambunctious miscreant acting up. I want to give people a chance, too, so I feel like a two-strikes rule is fair.

I'm kind of shocked that there were no cobwebs or anything added to the Verbolten queue. Seems like a pretty simple thing to do that would be very appreciated. Maybe throw a severed hand in with the plant experiments or something.

From what I am told, security takes no action in the house. The actor notifies the stage manager who notifies security to wait at the exit and then the actor follows the guest out to the exit where security waits to find out all the details.

They do increase police officers in the park. There is approximately 1 officer for each hamlet during HOS.

I do think security needs some help when it comes to Howl-o-Scream but there is only so much that they can do.

This is just dumb. There's staff in the houses. They can deal with problems.

Last fall, my wife and I saw security and police talking to several people acting up in Houses at least three or four times. We watched and the police and security let them simply walk away after the warning. The park really pushes the special drinks during HS and I think that brings on many of the problems for the sake of a buck. I think the park needs to make sure visitors are safe and having fun by adding much more security during the most crowded times and throw out anyone hitting or abusing any of the scare actors or general public.

Sure blame it on the alcohol. Honestly, the only push the park has done for alcohol has been the Food & WINE Festival. During HOS the only alcohol related thing that is pushed is jello shots (which require a rather large quantity to be consumed to get drunk) and Open Casket.

The real issue is those darn twenty something year olds who are now finally old enough to drink to their hearts content and can't control themselves.

Most of the rowdiness has to do with the general age of the park goers during Halloween, and the nature of Halloween, itself. The holiday is generally about marauding and ruckus-making.

I mean, one might even say that All Hallow's Eve has become a night of frolic...where children wear costumes and run amok.

A troublemaker in the house is handled in a multitude of manners. Mostly, the performer notifies the Ops employee INSIDE of the maze who radios if they have one. Anyone other than an actor can and will remain with either of those two, until they can get to security. Stage Managers are not able to magically appear where an incident occurs.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013

Does anyone know around how many stage managers are needed per house? How does their job differ from show stage managers and tech crew? I've always been curious about that.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013

^That's good to know. I know in Tampa they have some houses with several people who set things up. For example, one house had about 200+ LED candles that had to be switched on individually, and at the end of every other weekend the batteries need changing. Imagine doing that job! Surely the set-up here isn't left up to two people is it?

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013

All houses and decor is set-up before the event starts with small teams of maybe 5 or so people doing a specific house or area decor, depending on the size of the job.

As far as daily operations they will pull as many people as they need to set up one thing. For example, they would probably have a group of 3 to 5 people turn all those candles on and then they go on to their assigned locations or what not.

Honestly, I see Entertainment as a grab people to work as you go kind've operation. Like "Oh we need another person, okay, hey guy come help us for a minute" type of thing.

Latest news coming in, Fear Fair will not be returning for 2013.

I've heard the same about Fear Fair. It sounds like the house was more or less falling apart on them. Thanks for the second layer of confirmation Party Rocker!

Things changed. Current plan is to deal with the rot and whatnot as best they can and replace whatever they absolutely have to.

If the budget issues we've heard rumors or are that bad, then a half-assed Fear Fair is just the start.

This. I used to love Fear Fair but from what I can tell, the fact that it's returning is a very bad sign.
