RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013: Fear Has a Way of Spreading

and does anyone know why they ever got rid of the idea not to do the train ride with the scares? I enjoyed that and think they should bring it back, so that it could immerse people into a DARKSIDE of the gardens.

I really don't know why they got rid of the train (I'm sure others here do), but I do know that as a guest I really don't miss it that much.

Each year it got progressively less Halloween-y and by the last year, it reminded me more of Christmas than HOS. Even when it was a "Three Pumpkin" attraction, it didn't work extremely well. I think I was actually startled by a scare actor once, but I am about the easiest target in the park. Mostly it was just a train going through some Halloween-themed props. And the lines were horrendous. I always get Quick Queues, but not even those front of the line passes helped when the stampede to the train came.

All that said, it might work better with the Terror-tories than with the Scare Zones.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013: Fear Has a Way of Spreading

I actually enjoyed the train a lot when they were still using it as regular transportation around the park, but had decorations set up and played halloween-y type music. It was a fun, un-scary way to enjoy HOS.

You are correct Zachary, also for Demon Street they want to "tone" it down so people don't complain that BGW is having satanic type ritual. So make it more discotheque hell theme.

That's not the case at all actually. It's 100% budgetary. Actual fire, full facades, etc. cost a lot of money and it turns out that the park simply didn't have that money laying around. Because of that, they've shifted to a nightclub vibe because it's cheap and easy to pull off.

For the record, I'm not criticizing the park for this- I've heard nothing to indicate that the park is investing their money irresponsibly with this year's event- as far as I can tell, this is all legitimately out of their control. Was there horrendous misinvestment earlier in the season? Oh yes, but, as far as this event alone is concerned, that's sorta beside the point. What it comes down to is that the money simply isn't there and they're being forced to work with what they have.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013: Fear Has a Way of Spreading

Yeah true, all comes down to $$. I overheard today some ladies saying they should of made that area based on something other than demons, so people don't get wrong idea. But without $$ guess u got to do what you have to do

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013: Fear Has a Way of Spreading

Plus it's happening at BGT because of budget cuts. It's just not BGW. Why don't they get sponsors than say this area "sponsored by", like some parks do

I've been told that basically all of the hell-related props have been cut due to budget constraints in favor of a much more nightclub-esque look and feel.

Due to the need of more glitter and streamers in Night Beats and the addition of confetti and the like to Fiends. :p Prioritizing! :dodgy:

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013: Fear Has a Way of Spreading

This.

Despite quality or whatever event, shows should be part of a whole experience at any park. The fact that they have taken priority over everything else should say many things.

I will say that from what Zach describes, at least the park had awesome plans that they were actually going to do in the first place. I mean, if they had the money they definitely could have redeemed themselves; however, because of their previous mistakes earlier in the year, they have to suffer now.

I am not saying the park isn't at fault because they are the culprits here, but their intentions for HOS were amazing.

With that, I still like the idea of a club, sure it doesn't cater to the folks wanting high quality or scares, but it caters to people who enjoy clubs. The park is trying to please everyone not just one group and I honestly think that this could work out.

With recycled props, like I said it could work, it just depends on how you use them. I will agree cannonball painted christmas decor is not a very brilliant idea, unless it could be used very well, but I do highly doubt it because you'd have to be a genius to figure out how to make it work and I just don't think thats going to happen.

I understand your view PK, and you are right. The park has shown no indication that this years HOS is going to be any different or better than Illuminights or other disasters in the park this year. They definitely do seem to be headed that way, but I choose to try and keep positive in these dark times.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013: Fear Has a Way of Spreading

If you like clubs, why wouldn't you just go to a real club that offers real club experiences instead of paying a $72/season pass price cover for some watered down club experience? Theme parks are supposed to offer something out of the ordinary, so why the hell would somebody pay more for a mundane experience?

This is why pop music is bad for a theme park, it's something that you can experience outside of the park and reduces the value of the park as someplace you can go to that you can't find anywhere else.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013: Fear Has a Way of Spreading

Maybe they are looking for more than just clubs, you can want two things at the same time it is possible. There is a balance in the force somewhere. Plus how many clubs are in Williamsburg? If you going to a park to get drunk, you should be able to go and clubbing too. After all, drinking isn't something out of the ordinary isn't?

But like I said, I originally didn't want this to happen, I was hoping for fire and facades and everything, but I am trying to embrace the worst of the situation so I am not too disappointed.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2013: Fear Has a Way of Spreading

Same here PR I can do both and yes living in the burg no clubs. I think it's a good way to go take break from everything get a drink people watch, and dance and we had CLUB ENVY at BGT HOS, and that was fun and people liked it so yeah the idea is a great one for fire and everything, but since $$ is an issue yeah can only do what you can, just hope it's not same songs from KK one can only take so much lady gag gag. Besides some songs for KK were also used for Jack is Back show. So why not get inoculated and head over and dance. I'm up for HOS, not gonna knock it until I try it.

If Busch Gardens has become nothing more than a really awful bar, things are far worse than I had imagined. If they want to be a nightclub, whatever, they can be a nightclub- but at least be a good nightclub. Instead, they're producing a crappy haunt event and putting together an awful excuse for a nightclub to replace it. You know what the nightclub crowd doesn't want? Families pushing strollers with crying children through a horrendously cheesy theme park area called Demon Street.

That, my friend, is called deliberate complacency. Stop it.

So what you're saying is I must moan and groan, whine, and cry, and be negative? I am trying to have a positive look on things, I don't want to be a depressed emo fan. Just sayin.

No, just don't avoid criticizing things you admit are awful in an attempt to convince yourself to enjoy them once they come about.
