CK’s Parental Guide to Howl-O-Scream 2012 – Part 01
Das Festhaus
Sitting in the dining hall with my daughter while eating a yummy corn-beefed sandwich, I began to notice some things that had changed since last year. One of the highlights of my day was watching my little girl run around chasing the spider light on the floor in-between shows. The light would switch between the front and the back of the hall every so often, and then fade out to take a couple of minutes for a break. It was like clockwork. This year I didn’t even see the spider for at least 20 minutes while eating our meal, and when it did come on it was pretty good on the front side, but on the back side it was projecting on top of the benches and tables. Also, the time between when the spider fades out and reappears has more than doubled. While one part of me thinks it might be amusing to see little kids chase a spider light while jumping on top of tables, the parent in me thinks that they have ruined the fun back there. The tables need to be moved back or the light needs to be adjusted. There is way too much down time. I do realize that this was the first day, and maybe they are trying to maximize seating, or perhaps it was an oversight. But it is little touches like this than many of us look forward to when visiting Das Festhaus.
By the way, the ghost light no longer goes around the room. It now goes side to side across the ceiling. This has the effect of making it difficult to see clearly, if at all, because it is for a very short time (it is a ghost after all). However, there is now a cool-looking bat that flies clockwise around the hall as a consolation.
