RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

I think that a way to get the "best of both worlds" would be to start by including Howloscream in the season pass with "blackout" dates. Maybe Saturdays or the weekends where they're already drawing a big crowd, whatever. That way they could charge a separate ticket price for Howloscream without scaring ALL the passholders away. They'd still get in some days for free, but for the blackout dates they'd need to pay the extra price.

So what else for 2012?

Last night we came up with the idea of a Twilight hous in 2012 where Bitten was. The GP will just want to do that house over and over which will leave the good houses for the rest of us.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

It seems silly to suggest though that Howl-O-Scream would require an upcharge at any time in the foreseeable future. HAUNT is an hour away, with twice the mazes and it's free. The only way I could see BGW pulling off an upcharge for Howl-O-Scream was if they REALLY stepped it up. Even if they did though, why would I pay extra for Howl-O-Scream when HAUNT (which is a better Halloween event in my honest opinion) is only an hour from BGW, and tickets for the entire day are only 29 dollars.

BGW has a really good Halloween event, but it's not world class like HHN, it's not one of a kind like "Alone" in Tampa, it's just a decent event. If they were to even consider an upcharge, there would have to be something to warrent me paying the extra money as opposed to simply going to KD an hour away.

On top of all this, look at Fiends from this year's event. They warned parents that it was for mature audiences, they warned people that it contained questionable content, but did people listen to these warnings? No. And when they didn't, they unleashed their wrath and fury upon the park. This was over one show, with a couple nurses. if the park attempted to start charging for an event that has always been included with admission, I imagine the anger at the park would be even worse... much worse.

What I would do in 2012...

Keep Fear Fair as is.
Keep Catacombs as is.
Completely revamp the Bitten house into something new.
Keep Dead Zone and perfect the acting.
Keep 13 but change certain fears and perfect the acting.
Lower lights around the park, and more fog...(would help scare zones)

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

Here are my thoughts for how to fix the stuff.

13: There's a lot of good stuff in here... for the first half of the maze. I think that maybe if you set up a story like in Dead Line about how you're going through a Hospital then caves with some sort of climax at the end, it would work a lot better. They have good stuff, but there's also a lot of weak sauce.

Fear Fair: I loved this one and can't really think of much more to change, but with the *spoiler* chicken at the end, make it a puppet or something. (BTW, did anybody notice that at the front of the maze, the Barker with the megaphone's hands are restrained, very beautiful touch.

Dead Line: Nothing really to suggest here, besides maybe a Revenge of Pompeii lights on thing. There is just too much detail missed in the dark and I'd love to be able to read all the signs and graffiti.

Catacombs: Because it's a really solid house, the only suggestion I have is alternate the costumes a bit so not everybody looks the same.

Bitten: Get rid of this, put something less generic than vampires in there.

Widow Makers: I've said this before, but they look like butchers, not lumberjacks. Change the outfits, and put more spiders on them. I was thinking about putting on lightly glowing spiders on them to make them seem like they're being controlled. Also give them more than just chainsaws.

Grin and Scare It: This section needs to be moved, it had great actors this year and it's a shame that they couldn't really scare due to the lights and lack of space.

Scavengers: I honestly thought this was the best scare zone this year, but it needs more actors.

Stichen Time: It has great costumes, but the actors didn't seem to be into it that much.

Unleashed: Once again, I wish they would switch it from the generic werewolf thing.

Fiends: 100% Nurse Cast! .V.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

WRT deadline, one part that irked me was the room with the vending machine. when you go in there, it's pretty well lit and there's nowhere for the actors to hide. As soon as you go in there, you see the scare actor on the other side of the vending machine. They should just put up a piece of plywood or another vending machine so I can't see to the other side of the room. I prefer to not see the scares coming.

Lights just basically need to be turned down everywhere. Use well-placed accent lights (Hunted was GREAT at this), actor-triggered lights (like in Catacombs), and strobes (like Fear Fair). Also, the houses need fog as well (again, Hunted had this part right last year).

I agree. Not that it's a bad house or anything. Just need a refresh back there.
exactly, it has been the same thing for the last 3 or 4 years, however long its been

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

So I was thinking about 13 and I was thinking that if you do an indoor/outdoor hybrid, you would be able to pull off the lamer phobias (snakes, spiders, IT'S A BAT!) off better because you could have plenty of room to put animatronics/puppets that would make those phobias scary.

I liked the vending maching and the bathroom, it just made the it seem more realistic

I really hope Fear Fair and Bitten comes back next year. DeadLine was also good. Catacombs needs to go and I never understood what the big deal was about 13.

You actually hope Bitten comes back? again? It's been the same thing over and over again. It must go!

I'd like to see catacombs again... But without some of it's changes.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

Catacombs lack of an all out dungeon as was present in 2010 hurt it this year. The energy that was in the 2010 maze was not in it this year. Overall I enjoyed it and passed through a few times. Fear Fair hands down was the most immersive. If they can build on top of what they did right in FF and reinstall it in 2012 then they will have a hit on their hand.

Oh yea, 13 needs to go or have major work done to it.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

13 was just too big. They tried to do too much and ended up doing absolutely nothing.
