Dude, you do understand they take surveys for a REASON right?

Your right. I'm just the bad guy taking the wind out of everyone's sails with this.

If we take a look at what is going on as a whole for a moment:
-WCUSA has a planned expansion to double it's size
-Tons of rumors for the future expansion of BGW
-Resort for the parks
-Now a possible change in the way they host special events

Changes are happening. Just get over it. You wont cancel your pass. People will still flock to HOS.

Again, sorry I have to be the one to kill this special event for everyone.

People will cancel passes. They will lose their regular season revenue. People enjoy visit HoS several times throughout the course of it. Hence the major purpose of a season pass.

I think you may have an issue understanding the phrases "rumor" and "opinion."

I wont go into detail here. But I know more than you think.

It's a big picture thing. The positives of what's in store will out weigh the negative of a HOS charge.

Almost every other Halloween event is a charged event. Busch is just following suit. I didn't hear anyone complain about ChristmasTown being a charged event. Don't give me the "no competition" excuse either. Kd will start charging if Busch does. Its all relative.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

It's funny because other who "Know youre than you but don't ask" people would disagree with you.

And has ChristmasTown been offered for the 13 years with no upcharge? Nope.

what?

And why is everyone stuck on never changing something? You blow my mind.

I just went through the 2009 ChristamsTown thread. It was noted 3 times that the pricing was annoying. Other than that, it was never said again. I have gone multiple times every year without an issue of paying. What's the problem in paying for a quality event?

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

Check their FB page in a week if you want to see some feedback about passmembers paying for Christmas town.

I've been to TWO passmember only events where they opened to floor for questioning and the "why don't passmembers get CT free" was the FIRST question both times.

I personally know (and have met others) passmembers who have never been to CT because they refuse to pay the upcharge.

You claim to be "in the know" but are clueless as to the outcry every year about the CT upcharge.

And it's not particularly that people are against change. People can have opinions has to whether they feel it'd be worth it to pay for an upcharge. Whether or not it'd be a good business decision. Whether or not it would lead to a better event. Whether or not it would actually reduce the number of families with children. And on, and on.

It's called an opinion. And quite frankly, it's pretty insulting for you to state that you "know all the facts," but "can't tell us how" and then basically call us all idiots for having an opinion that disagrees with yours.

Woah, First off. Never stated I knew everything. I was passing word on what i've been informed on. WE all also realize that the people who post on FB will complain about everything. That's just how that process works. It has been stated that the park has no issues with getting people to attend ChristmasTown. Yet, no one goes because of the cost? Ok. That must be why they keep increasing the size of the event every year. Must be a broke event.

Second. I'm sorry you feel as if I have insulted you. I'm clearly just trying to correct the fact that everyones up in arms over thinking this is going to happen over night. I stated the same thing everytime.

Third. Just trying to add to the conversation. But it was clear you had a problem with everything I said. Honestly. I don't know what your issue is. I'm sorry you go to the park every weekend and don't want to pay. I realize that. I realize others are in the same boat. But i'm just being a realist and looking at this situation as it is.

Honestly. If you have a problem with me, we can figure this out privately. I just don't take kindly to one person dogging everything I say.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

So what else for 2012?

Last night we came up with the idea of a Twilight hous in 2012 where Bitten was. The GP will just want to do that house over and over which will leave the good houses for the rest of us.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

Bitten and 13 both need to die. Keep Fear Fair and Catacombs like they were last night and take the sleeping pills away from the actors in Deadline. Don't theme the scarezones to boxes and turn down the lights. Monster Stomp's time has run out and Fiends needs to be moved to the Globe. Jack is Back should replace Fiends in the Festhaus to give families a nice, family-friendly show to eat to.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

ktmdavid229v,

I have no idea if BG will begin charging for HOS sometime in the near or distant future. I have opinions on it. In my opinion, if this were a done deal, they wouldn't bother surveying on it. I think, logically, that would tell me they are testing the waters on this idea. I also have an opinion that if they did, it would be a bad business decision. Here's why:

1) It's not a new event. It's been included in your pass for over 13 years.
2) Williamsburg is not Tampa. It is a family destination. They need to keep the event accessible to families.
3) If it's a revenue issue, then perhaps they could do away with all of the free and discounted tickets they give away now.
4) The fact that they are willing to give away free and discounted tickets, leads me to believe that they are more concerned with getting bodies in the park to spend money as opposed to making their money at the turnstiles.
5) There would be a massive PR backlash against it. If somebody has to pay an additional $75-100 just to get their family in the door, when they never had before and they're already paying for a season pass, obviously they're not going to be happy.
6) BGW has the crappiest season pass value of all the parks as it is. We pay the same price as everyone else, for less than half the operating days. This will further diminish that value.

Those are some of the opinions I've been stating as to why I think it would be a bad decision. I would be happy to defend those opinions or consider opinions that run counter to that. I believe that would actually further this discussion. Saying generic things like "you guys need to see the big picture" and "you guys blow my mind" with nothing to back that up other than the stating further rumors about some unspecified park expansion in the unspecified future. Obviously the park is going to expand and make changes. It always has. I don't think I understand the connection to that and why it would be a good decision by the park to upcharge HOS. If you can explain that connection to me, fine. I'd love to hear it. But please quit dismissing my opinion by simply saying I'm not "looking at the big picture" then turn around and act like I'm attacking you. Geesh.

And personally, of course I would go to HOS if they charged extra. But I can't (and neither can many others) continue to go every weekend like I do now (and spend hundreds of dollars BTW), because I simply couldn't afford it.

(And BTW, I have no problem with you personally and hope you don't take anything personally. I've been arguing with people on message boards for, well...as long as there have been message boards.:) )

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

I know that this has been repeated over and over, but one must remember that a move like this would be HUGELY unpopular with the GP, who are impatient and want instant gratification. Remember Netflix? Netflix may not be an amusement park, but look at what happened to them. They raised their rates just a small amount, but the public outcry was huge, and even leaked into their finances. (Their stock plunged nearly 40%)

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

Yet everyone is going to go right back to Netflix. Why? Because they provide a unique service and they do so well. If BGW steps up their game and continues to provide a unique experience, people will pay for it. This is what the park has lived on for years. They've never been the cheap park- they've always put quality first. Why should Howl-O-Scream be any different?

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

^^You also left out the part about Qwikster, the fact that they lost 800,000 subscribers, and the fact that they want to launch in the UK even though it will push them into the red. But I get the idea...;)

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

Hey guys,

Basically after visiting multiple times this year I think the biggest changes needed for next year are;

1. Get rid of Bitten and/or Catacombs. I love Catacombs, and don't care for Bitten. But regardless, they're getting a bit dry and new mazes would be great to replace them.

2. KEEP DEAD LINE. Best thing to happen to HOS is a while.

3. More scare actors. They seemed to really be lacking this year.

4. SCARE ZONES NEED WORK. BGW just can't seem to create good scare zones. Between "The Scare is Nowhere" last year and this year featuring the "5 ft x 5 ft scare zone" BGW's scare zones need mega help. They should be bigger, essentially. But, in making the bigger, they should still be able to keep the same amount of scares... if that makes sense.

I still like my pass members get Friday and/or Sunday for free with a $10 to $15 up-charge on Saturday idea. Also, I completely agree with Shafor and Pagey about the ridiculous discounts they've been offering. Kill the Fall Fun Card, kill the Preschool Pass, get rid of the $20 off tickets- it's getting ridiculous.

This is really the most sensible way to approach this idea if they really want to dip their toe in this. I've said the past few years I thought they should discount Friday and Sunday to try to spread out the attendance. This is really a better idea though because it'll pull the local passmembers away from Saturday. (Stunningly, I know tons of locals who live 15 minutes from the park...and when do they go? 5:00 Saturdays. Crazy.)

I think if you ran HOS from 5-11 on Saturdays and gave the day it's own brand (Saturdays could be "Fright Night" or some such) you could sell passholders on the fact that they're paying the extra $20 for 2 additional hours. But they'd have to get rid of all the free tickets as well.

It's definitely an idea they're exploring. But let's face it, if they decide they need the additional revenue as part of some big expansion plans, they'll get it from us one way or another even if they decide charging for HOS is too unpalatable. They'll just restructure the season pass plans or something. People except their passes to go up once in awhile anyway. They raised prices this year on day passes, season passes, QQ, tours, food, beer, etc. Nobody even really noticed.
