RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

^^ Yeah, I always go on the opening Friday and get pretty much everything done within 2-3 hours. Except, as PzP said, last year- I was able to see the 4:30 showing of Fiends, and then they shut down the park because of rain/low attendance.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

Lets just say I'm not excited AT ALL for these hordes. I thought they were an addition like their own scarezone at the park entrance like that. Scarezones are what made the Howl in Howl O Scream. The park is way to big for 40 people to scare people at one time in 2 places. It just doesn't make since to me.

Great Adventure pulled it off beautifully back in 2007. They actually rigged some trash cans to be zombie accessible, so that they could still scare people even if they weren't anywhere near the hordes.

If the park does this right, they can still provide great scares on the pathways. Also think of it like this, the scare actors will be scaring in areas that aren't in a designated zone giving scare to everyone everywhere.

Consider it a new take on 'The Scare is Everywhere' + 'The Dark Side of the Gardens' = 2012.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

Last year they did that in Tampa, and they weren't very successful with it, because you could go through the whole park, and not get scared much. What worries me even more is Tampa had much bigger hordes. You would think BGW would learn from that mistake, if BGT couldn't do it right I doubt we can do any better. Oh well, I'm still remaining hopeful, and perhaps there's more to the concept that they haven't told us yet (I sure hope so).

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

If they had about 4 groups of 20 it might be good, I just don't see how 2 groups are going to work out. Hopefully it does. Last years scare zones were deffinately the best they've ever been, I was hoping they would just add more scare zones. But hopefully everything works out

This is why it can't be compared to "The Scare is Everywhere" concept - one could conceivably be on a ride, in a queue, or in a house when the horde comes through a hamlet, leaving nothing until you (hopefully) encounter the other horde...

Honestly, this was even possible with "The Scare is Everywhere" on some nights. :s

Tell me if im wrong. Doesn't Universal Studios own part of Busch Gardens? If yes why don't they make it a little like Holloween Horror Nights?

I dont know where all of this Universal owning BGW is coming from.... No, BlackStone owns SeaWorld parks and Entertainment. Blackstone used to own part of Universal, but has since sold all it's shares.

Now back on topic :p

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

As far as "The Scare is Everywhere" theme went. I found that year to be total crap. I remember visiting the park and the ENTIRE night I walked around and didn't see but maybe four scare actors? The only time I got close to getting scared was in a house or at the end of the night at like 10pm when the park closed and I was walking through New France. I don't know why people thought that was a good year, in my honest opinion is was great in concept but it sucked in reality.

Moving on to how that relates with the hordes, I think this could really work well with BGW because they have two groups of 20, and so this allows one group to go clockwise, the other counter clockwise, so there is no way you can miss them unless you are avoiding them via shows, rides, shopping, etc. Plus, this amps up the mature event atmosphere even more because there won't be any bypasses, they won't be confined to a small space people can avoid. They will be blocking your path occasionally and it will show parents that you bring your kid in that can't handle scares, then too bad for you.

Here is a small bit of interesting news for you, Entertainment did pyrotechnic testing in the Abbeystone Theater, so we can expect some fireworks for Fiends this year. If anyone is up for more fireworks :p

With Illuminights ending tomorrow and How-o-Scream starting earlier expect to see a lot of park changes frequently. Entertainment has been going crazy getting things ready backstage, and once Illuminights is over they will completely fill the park with theater technicians at night working in the late and early hours of the day to setup the park.

This is true. Fiends will have a bit of pyro this year.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

So they are placing a bar in the middle of Oktoberfest? As if rum jello shots weren't enough :p Also we can expect to see those wonderful monster versions of the VP's back again this year but relocated to Ireland, the town square in the location is actually fitting for the setup considering its like Oktoberfest but much smaller, should see how that works out.

I honestly think the harvest hollow theme in Scotland works much better than ghosts. To be honest ANY ghost related theme is hard to do properly, unless they can make people transparent. White/blue makeup gives an idea but there is no illusion with it, whereas replicating a living monster is much easier to do. It wouldn't hurt to add some projectors to help try to give some ghostly life to guests in the Wild Reserve this year.

13 is quiet the odd one out of theme. It has no set theme the flows with anything but it works because technically you enter the house through the parking lot. So it has no set hamlet theme to flow with anyways! I really am looking forward to the changes in this house. I really enjoyed the ending to the house. It really was an almost perfect ending. I hated how they loosened the grip of the walls/ceilings as the event went on. I was lucky enough to go the first night and get through the maze when they had it amped up to where you really had to push your way out, sadly the GP had issues and now you might as well be walking through a dark corridor :/

Catacombs was funky last year, it was much more lit with candles and I liked it but not really. I want to get that lost in the sewers type feeling not that lets get romantic feeling. More walls of skulls and bones would be nice and I really enjoy the ending where it looks like there are many different paths you can take but you would get lost in the sewers.

The hordes, they way they are described in the first post gives me great hopes for this, yet it disappoints my again. If they had the two groups just running through the park, it would go by quicker and get more people scared frequently, yet if they take their time on a set schedule we can see some better planned out scares.

It's alive! for Howl-o-Scream, the Glow Booth makes a return. The wine barrels won't be back until next Spring! I thought this could go here since this booth is only going to be used for special events. The stand will remain standing for the next few weeks, but it will be empty. From what I have heard, signage will change to match the Howl-o-Scream feel. The booth will not be up during Christmas Town, only because Entertainment's only concern is they want to have the manger scene there. So get ready for a whole new special event full of glowing toys that break instantly!

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

I really hope the park gets closer and closer each year to a less family oriented Howl-O-Scream and a more adult version. It's the parents fault to bring the kids after 6pm. Not Busch Gardens. Also 20 hours until the Howl-O-Scream transformation!

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2012 Rumors

So I kinda of dabbled in my expectations for this year, so I am just going to put them all in one complete post.

Hamlets:

England - Crows fit this area well, I think England's most notable grim or dark side is just overall the creepiness of someone or something is always watching you. There is not much I expect to go on here, except with the Globe Theater. Is Pirates 4D going to continue or will the theater sit empty?

Scotland - Pumpkins was never really Scotland's theme. They tried a harvest hollow theme last year, which I was impressed with greatly and hopefully they can at least match or succede past last years theme in the area. I do think that since Scotland is farm-based with you know horses and barn owl, a harvest hollow theme fits the area perfectly. Ghosts isn't really a good theme anyway.

Ireland - I get confused with the theme and why Frankenstien is in Ireland and not Germany? However, at least they are consistent with their theme and keep it going with Fiends. The Killarney village does give a somewhat similar setup like Oktoberfest, a wide open village circle with a main attraction or show being positioned there. Glad to see Jack got the boot and is finally left the park for good . . . however as I mentioned previously I'd like to see them try to position those monster versions of the Vice Presidents in the village and have them "wired" up.

Wild Reserve - As I brought up earlier, ghosts and cemeteries as just really hard to do properly. Its hard to give an illusion of a ghost without projectors. What I think they should do is have projectors hidden that are turned on by sensors that get tripped by guests passing by. So when a guest walks by a sensor, a ghost appears out of nowhere. Even in Hollywood, their ghosts are special effects and not really just people in make up. Plus this area is just for werewolves. Wolves is already the main attraction here, why not go off on a story and say a wolf escaped and go with the werewolf theme? Seems a lot bett than ghosts.

France - Its most dark thing is their Catacombs, so obviously rats, sewers, and skeletons work. Plus, a tie into the black plague gives it like two themes in one, yet still giving it that dead and long rotted away vibe.

New France - This area has no good theme. Spiders is not much of anything. I like the insane logger or woodsman idea. It would make much more sense and flow properly. Spiders reminds me of Harry Potter. They find spiders in the woods.

Rhinefeld - I thought vampires fit this area pretty swell, but I was real upset with the performance of the vampire scare actors. I am interested to see how the lady of the gardens takes over the area. Honestly, I felt DaVinci's Gardens of Invention would be themed after the lady of the gardens, after all it is a garden. But I would love to see the place looking like its over grown with vines and weeds, and roses with eyeballs.

Oktoberfest - Vampires fits in Germany somewhere and if Rhinefeld can't have them, then Oktoberfest will work. Not much to say about it, but my only hope is that they don't try to go with the Twilight references.

San Marco/Pompeii - Very well deserved theme, considering the place reminds you of ruins. Gypsies and Witches work well with Italy but a dig site can be so much better. Perhaps we will see some of the Pompeii theme return? Shovels and all?

Festa - Its a carnival, no denying that.
