RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

If it includes a backstage bit, I'm thinking about doing the Eerie Insider thing. I mean, it's thirty extra dollars (over Quick Que), yes, but I've been to HOS like 6 years in a row now, and it would be cool to see some behind the scenes stuff.

It doesn't say anything about a backstage feature. I doubt it's included because they are selling a separate MSR Insider tour, which includes the meet and greet and backstage portions.

This is really a major rip off. The last few years you got a QQ for $20-$25 that included all of the normal quick queue rides and coasters PLUS all of the houses. Now they are charging double for just the houses?? (the preferred seating for the shows has no real value IMO) That's insane.

My wife and I always go to HOS at least one night without the kids and we've always gotten the QQ in the past. This just sucks if this is how they are doing it this year.

(I assume this include unlimited trips vs the regular QQ of one time trips. IF it does include the rides, but just doesn't specify it on the website, and ALL of it is unlimited, then $50 is a fair price.)

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

I have been to quite a few Halloween attractions, and something keeps me coming back to BGWHOS year after year. I think it's the theming and time that is put into the houses/scarezones/shows. They are all great in their own ways. I have been to KD's event, and well Hookers/Drugs/Gore (Club Blood) don't scare me. They are just cheap cheap scares. Busch spends loads of money on their event. They have epic special effects and decorations. Their scares may be slacking in some of the houses (Cursed) but it is a great event.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

Hookers and Drugs arent sposed to be scary in club blood, I think they are there for the sole purpose of enhancing the theme of a vampire club that lures victims in with lust and desire, then kills them... The theme isnt a family's cup of tea, but it is well executed. I would never expect to see a house like this in busch, but the one thing it does have that busch doesnt do well, is a story. All the houses at busch are "lets go into this haunted area, then escape" or even worse "lets go into this haunted area".

Club Blood's storyline is you are lured into a club in a bad part of town. It's one of the hottest clubs in town. You travel through the bad part of town with hookers and drug dealers running rampant til you get to the club. Once you get to the club you walk through and go to the back room where you see some of the dancers on the floor in private areas with guest. You make a turn around a corner and go back to same area and find that guest is now dead. The exit is blocked by a vampire so you have to find a way out, by going deeper and deeper into the club. The first few years it was just trying to escape the club, Last year you uncovered a plot to harvest humans in a underground cryogenic facility kept alived or frozen for their blood.

Also, Last year the new layout and set pieces in Club Blood were unbelievable... On Par with Cursed and Bitten...

Also, As for calling gore a cheap scare, Bitten and Hunted and Harvest Hallow had it... Busch uses it too, and I dont feel they use enough of it to properly convey the themes they go for, ESPECIALLY in Bitten. Hunted and Harvest Hallow are good for what they are though.

BGW can have the best special effects, the best decorations, but if the maze has no story to it, and is just a "haunted area" to me that is boring.

If BGW really wanted to have the scariest halloween event, then they could easily do it..

There is a BIG difference to me between a Halloween event and a Haunted event. The idea of a "Club Blood" does not, in the slightest, remind me of Halloween. I guess that's why I like HoS so much...because it's more Halloween-ish than some of the other stuff.

I think I also just hate stuff that is "edgy." Any time I see anything that tries to push the envelop, or be a little more 'hardcore', it just turns me off to it. This is why I've never been to KD for Halloween.

I like the focus being on witches, ghosts, werewolves, etc. I'll pass on maniacs, serial murderers, genocidal nightclubs, etc. I definitely do not want to go to something that looks like SAW come to life.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

And i think BG tries to make it more fun than they do try and make it like your in a horror movie

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

that's funny because "saw comes to life" was EXACTLY what I thought when I read 13's newest description it sounds just like HHN 19's SAW house...

also I find myself agreeing with you more and more every time you post Youhow! how did you like The Doll Factory last year?

Well than according to you Bitten wouldnt be Halloween. Club Blood is vampires.... I might be missing something but what about vampires isn't Halloween? Unless you are saying that the story of Club Blood isn't Halloween, but then it would just be boring. To have a house that is just people dressed like vampires jumping out at you just sounds blah.

I've been told that 13: Your Number's Up will be a phobias-based house featuring a surgery scene, spiders, and a few parts that will play with the emotions of the claustrophobics among us.

I dont know who youre talking to but you have a really good source.

Doll Factory was excellent. One of the best houses I've ever been in!

Also, I know we have a "Haunt Comparisons" thread but even last year that thread being created was disputed. I was simply comparing somethings about Howl-O-Scream to other parks but apparently bringing up examples about other parks in the official HOS thread isnt allowed... :dodgy:

I don't know who I'm talking to either, but yes, they are very good.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

Anyways, isnt 13 going to be like the haunted house that was in Corkscrew Hills Quene

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

Playing on phobias is an excellent idea! It can be truly terrifying to most people if they have a real fear or certain things.
I just hope they don't go too far and have injuries or anything...

I'm so excited for this year!

I miss Cedarva ):

But anyways, I think they changed the description of Widow Makers, added this part:

"but be careful … in the darkness of the woods, they may mistake you for the spiders they’re trying to destroy."

13 is going to be a remake of the original "The Dark Tower" that was in the Corkscrew Hills Queue, it was the first Maze ever for Howl-O-Scream.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

I'm not a huge fan of the phobias show, mostly for the reasons I already laid out. I hope they don't over-do it. The HoS event should be spooky, but not terrifying. I want to have some fun out there...not post traumatic stress disorder.

IMO if Im not terrified, they are doing it wrong.
