RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

First, I'm on my phone which makes clean quoting difficult so I apologize I'm not going to be able to do it in this post. Second, Doc, I'm mainly responding to your post, but I see it as an adult debate and I do not want you to think I'm picking on you in any way. I'm not.

I'm not saying BGW needs to copy anyone. No two haunts are the exact same. I'm just asking for a raise in the bar at our HOS. Or go above the bar. As far as making it more adult, again I don't understand why *not* BGW? Again, I really think this is a matter of opinion that both side will not agree on, and we need to respect that. I don't think it would hurt brand identity, it would alter it, but again, move forward. Catch up or fall behind. If you're not constantly evolving with the trends, what's the point? I almost get the vibe of over protectiveness of the park? We all love this place, but I think it's time for a change. Why not gradually? Give me one "extreme" house and let's see how popular it is.

Also, every park's website show kids and families having a good time. Universal has Suess Landing and HP. Heck, KD was drowning in Nickelodeon theming ( which my kids would be more interested in that SS or dragons). You can effectively cater to kids and adults.

You said that both haunts are very, very different. I don't really think they are at all. I think it's more of the general surroundings. BGW is a pretty park, so when you put the same spider up in a tree at both, it will just have more of an impact at BGW.

I really think you should go experience KD's haunt. I think the impression you have been given on this site by fellow posters and its advertisements are screwing with your thoughts on the event. Its not bad, I don't think its too edgy. There was the one house, the hooker house we keep talking about, that was to provoke the feeling of being in an unsafe, sketchy environment and not knowing what's going to happen to you next. Much scarier than walking into a room with a stationary troll. They do themeing too, like aliens in the FoF que and rednecks in the car ride (which was scary to me! Lol) and the log flume que.

And I don't think its that BGW had the theme advantage over BGT, it's that they choose to go with the themeing of the area the maze is in. They don't have to, its just what they've always done and it's what we're used to and some us don't want that to change. Its exciting to me that they are branching out with the subway under Pompeii (rhymes), and I hope they make it a modern subway.

MMMU, I think Tampa's farther away than an hour drive from Orlando. I think its closer to three, so kind of like the distance from here to KD. And no, I think they have two separate audiences and fan bases, its not just casuals who decide to go to both haunts. Only the diehards do. Many are loyal to one or the other. But I do wholeheartedly agree with the fact that we need an overall theme/story with a different icon. I posted something weeks ago that I thought was a pretty good idea about the sharing of themes between BGW and BGT. HHN is huge because they engage the fans on a whole 'nother level...That's what BGW needs.

You mean to tell me that hookers aren't normally apart of KD's atmosphere?

Well, technically, no. From what I've heard, the girls at KD don't charge.

And at the end of the day BG will still have the higher attendance numbers. That is all that matters to the bottom line.

That does not really prove anything since KD has no capacity. The restaurants, arcades and all that stuff have a set capacity, but the park itself does not. So people saying that the BGW gets better numbers because they hit capacity is absulutely worthless. Someone at an event asked Pat Jones (KDs GM) about hitting capacity and if it has been done, and she stated what I just said.

Neither of us know for sure both parks attendence numbers for their Halloween events, so who knows. BGW could have more at their event and vice versa.

Now I am not saying KD has a better Halloween event. I cannot compare the two considering I have not been to Howl-O-Scream, but what I will say is a story can make or break a maze for me. I for one love Club Blood, it has a story to it (weather you like it or not). I also hated Alien Outpost, while there was a slight attempt to make a story out of it, it feels like they started and never finished it.

RE: Howl-O-Scream 2011

I was there today to ride the Mach Tower (which was so much fun, BTW!), and went across the Germany/Italy bridge and saw that they had already put up all of the signs across the whole bridge with the little messages. Every sign has the symbol of the rose with the eyeball in it. The sign at the beginning of the bridge says Welcome To the Dark Side of the Gardens. I meant to take pictures, but ended up leaving the other way. I will try to take some soon!

I'd like to see that. I remember last year, they decorated that bridge very nicely.

There is definitly something going on under pompeii becasue i personally was able to walk the first 50 feet or so and theres lots of construction going on along with some old effects laying in the back. I have attached a pic of one of the old props that was taken out and is in disrepair.

Even though I think that eyeball rose is goofy looking, I just can't help but get psyched about HoS.

Insider tour....Worth the money!

And does anyone else think that when someones wants to have a clown theme they always go with the freak show cliche? I mean hunt club farm did it im sure Fright Nights did it and even smaller attractions like mine did it.

It looks like Fear Fair area has had a pretty decent amount of work put to it. Has anyone seen any progress on Catacombs or 13: Your Numbers Up.

I wonder when they will close EitA to start working on 13:YNU; they'll have to close it at least a few weeks before Howl-O-Scream's opening.

In other news, I'm terribly distraught over the fact that I am stuck in Blacksburg and won't be able to attend (what seems to me to be) the best HOS in the event's history. :(
